Oh. Em. Geeee! I really love watching your process! It’s gorgeous from start to finish! All your beautiful, rich colors feed my soul. I’ve started looking at all kinds of things from a mixed media perspective, 😂 and I can’t wait to create some incredible mixed media pieces now! You’re a hoot, and SO inspiring! 💖
gayle claytor that's so funny! Thanks lady! I do love her too, still have her ! Ya know what's weird? I CANNOT find that bowl of liquid acrylics anywhere! I've been searching for them ans got it in my head that maybe I just never had them in the first place but now, looking at them in this video, I am like, THERES MY BOWL OF PAINTS!!! OMG...who the hell misplaced a giant bowl of paints?! Thanks for always being here and being so kind and supportive. I appreciate yooouuuuu!!! 😘😘😘
I recently found your channel and needless to say I have been binge watching. She is simply gorgeous though I must say when you said you were using and old vinyl cover, as a collector of them, I let out a loud gasp of horror. Love watching your process and thank you.
Aw, thanks so much for watching! My local Goodwill sells old records by the barrel for just 50 cents - there are hundreds of them! So I just choose ones that are old and beat up that no one would want and that would otherwise just end up in the trash. Glad you're enjoying all the videos! Have fun!
I was mesmerized watching this process and adored the outcome!! I so totally am rapidly becoming a big fan of yours. Thanks for sharing your wonderful art!!
Just came across this video...whew! Will try something similar with gessos. Have not heard of liquid pencil...will have to look it up. You are so inspiring and give me such pleasure just watching you. Smiling...wishing you the best Christmas everr.

@@KarenCampbellArtist thank you so much for the words of encouragement karen, it really means a lot! Just doing your tutorial on shading and I’m going to post in your Facebook group. Wish you’d have been my art teacher at school, you explain everything so well and make it really easy. Loving all the content and I definitely will give this one a try too ☺️
Wonderful! All these cool new artsy supplies this day and age, I love it. I have never heard of most of the things you come up with...you are a danger to me!! I want to buy it all. Gorgeous painting. I stopped painting back in the 70's now that I'm retired and coming back into it there are so many fascinating things to use! I LOVE your channel and creations! Good info on the liquid pencil...to mix it with the gesso, I can see a lot of good uses for this.
First of all, thank you so much! Secondly, thanks for taking the time to watch the vids and leave such nice comments, I appreciate that and love to read them!! Thirdly, I always spray everything I do (including journals) with Americana Acrylic Spray . www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XZTDR8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . It is the bomb!!!! One light coat and you're good to go! If you have any other questions, fire away!!!
I'll get some, thanks. I really am amazed by your creations, I knew mixed media has become quite popular but I never looked into it. I'm having so much fun looking at all of your artwork and supplies. Are you affiliated with anyone so I should shop through you? I just ordered your How to draw fun fab faces book, the reviews on it were all highly rated (amazon). That was always a problem area for me.
Patricia Saume Mazzei don't be afraid of Gesso!! it is your best friend! Just think of it as semi-see-through white paint. That's it!! You go girl, you got this!

Nope, you're seeing the whole project right here! Mod Podge would absolutely messed with the stabilo. So no, I just stopped rather than adding more and more layers!
WOW! I rewound this three times trying to find the moment when the right side brow bone magically appeared ( somewhere between blend and blend and blend and be patient with yourself). Thank you for showing just how many layers and how much blending and how many times you went over the same areas. This is where I personally get frustrated ( I have the shadow, I have the hightlights, and I have the midtones. Why does it still look flat? uggggggghhhhhh.) I so happy to watch someone just keep going and going until "that moment" when it just works. Thank you for sharing this.
Carlotta Holman of course!!! I'm so glad you found watching the process so helpful! That's exactly why I film, so people can watch and learn. The key is to just keep at it, it will come!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I appreciate them!
Oh my god, this helped me so much. Not only in terms of beginning to experiment with faces (which has ALWAYS been my Achilles heel), but just to remember that the pro artists don't just plop out a readymade masterpiece each time; that it's a process where EWW, UH I BETTER WIPE THIS, WTF CHANGE OF PLANS and so on are completely acceptable and even to be expected. More, they're part of the fun! Even though mixed media art is just a hobby for me, I get anxiety every time a piece looks like crap in the beginning (later on too).
Oh heck yeah, 100% of pieces go through an "oh crap!!" Phase! It's important to just move on and power through and dont ever let it get the best of you!!! If you keep on keepin' on you should be fine!

I finally saw the value of using a Stabilo All Pencil and activate it with water! Now, to find out where I can buy one. Thank you. Many times, I said to myself “she’s gone too far, too far”, then no, it’s just right. Clearly, you trust your instincts. I would have given up at the ugly stage. I just need to press on. Thank you!
Yes!!!! There is ALWAYS an ugly stage, so once you know that, you cab be confident to ignore her at that moment and press on indeed! Amazon has the best prices for the Stabilo, you can buy a dozen for about $12!
Hey Karen. Hopefully you are feeling much better and enjoying a wonderful thanksgiving.🍃🍂🍁 This video came up in my RUclips suggestions. And Thank Goodness! How did I miss this delightful girl?? Ohhhh, your talent really is ASTONISHING!! Gosh, the patience with the shading was tough going but utterly worth it. Fabulous colours and layers of paint, applied in different ways, becoming her gorrrgeous hair.... Wowzers! I have been thinking of adding mixed media to my girl (did I tell you I drew my first EVER girl?😅). But I might completely destroy my small... ok teany tiny, victory. Mainly because I have no idea how she happened. Lol. Maybe she's a fluke and I'll never create another one. She wasn't planned, she wasn't considered, I simply grabbed a pencil and paper while "watching" t.v. Before knowing it, an hour had passed and there she was?! Typical of me; very occasionally achieve something only to be gripped by creative paralysis. (Flippin Nora! ME ME ME ME ME! Arrgghh, "shut up, Caroline, you are seriously getting on my wick!!"😡) Karen. May you never ever ever cease to amaze!! SO inspiring, SO addictive, SO Awesome! Bye bye🤦♀️🤷♀️🙃💫👋🐾🐾
@@KarenCampbellArtist Moi, a writer?? Oh too funny.... However, strangely you aren't the 1st person to ask and I have not a clue as to why? Lol. No, I am not a writer, I just waffle a LOT😶🤣 Used to write a diary when young and occasionally, when down, the odd bit of poetry. Gosh, me being a writer would be hilarious ~ 'The Never-ending Book'!😁😲📝📝📝📝📝📝📝+infinitum. As for sharing my girl, I am trying to. I keep seeing REAL artists within FB group & well.... YES YES, wrong to compare ourselves, all with different levels of experience etc. Blah blah blah🙃 I am ever so slightly self critical, I knooow, Shocker!!👀 Perhaps I'll send her to just you, before I totally devastate her by adding mediums🖌🖍. Gosh, I am now very conscious of what and how I'm writing....🤔✏✏✏.... Still early morning so need MORE TEA NOW! Later Alligator👋👋🐊🐊x
Wha?! Oh no! Okay, plan B, I would honeslty go to a store, if you can. Pick out a natural and soft brush. Nothing stiff and nothing synthetic and you should be fine! Round brushes are best for getting started, number 8 is a great all around brush size as well!!!
I agree with Amanda below! I could watch you all day as well! You paint in much the same style as I, wet on wet. And I love to use Pitt markers! They are so highly pigmented and so versatile that I really had a hard time believing it when I first started using them. I have even developed my own style of being able to move the color around without having to put a clear coat of any kind over the top of my work before starting to use the markers. It still doesn't give you much working time but it does give a different look than you get when the work is clear coated. I had thoughts of approaching the company with what I have discovered the markers will do but I am not sure if they would even care lol. I do have a question for you though. The part of the video where you are putting the white on her hair, it looks like you are using a white Sharpie marker. You are getting a nice bold white line. I can NEVER get a nice line like that and have it stay opaque like what yours looked. Can you tell me what type you are using, maybe I am using a different type. I know I am using the tool correctly, that's not the problem. Unless however, I am not priming it in the correct way? I am in Louisiana and we deal with so much humidity here that it is just crazy! I have to wait probably twice the time for paint to dry, than other people do! I have learned to start using a hair dryer or a heat tool. I am too impatient when waiting for layers to dry unless I have more than one project going and can move from one to the other as things dry. I am always scared that the idea in my head won't come out right if I have to wait too much time for my paint to dry! And by the way, I am seriously considering taking your Fun, Fab Faces class and of course buying the book along with that. I may buy the book before-hand and start practicing. I am going to discuss it with my boss and see if my company can pay for the course as continuing education since I am a graphic artist and most of the classes out there are just too costly to even consider! There are a few out there, but I would have to fit them into my busy work schedule and I am not sure I can do that. I am hoping I can take this one at home and still get credit for the hours! Thanks so much for sharing your talents with all of us! I am going to send a link to my cousin who is a professional artist, I think she will like some of your methods for shadowing the faces and for backgrounds. Her favorite medium is pastels. If you care to look her up, this is where you can find her ashlylovett.com/ Sorry for being so long winded, I think I am supposed to be a writer as well as an artist! LOL Everyone tells me that all the time! *giggle* Have the most wonderful day, from your new fan and friend! Candie
Candie Chatham Aw, I don't mind a hot second that you're long winded. I love connecting with my You tube peeps, so much, and I am totally happy to chat and answer any questions! The Sharpie marker I use is always the water-based paint marker. That and the white Posca pens I find to work best over practically anything! I'm happy to hear you'd be interested in the book and class! That would also be awesome if you could get your company to pay for it!! I have loads of classes at Awesomeartschool.com but if your thing is mixed media my upcoming class in June (called Mixing the Media) may be right up your alley. I'd love to check out your cousins site, sounds cool! If you have any further questions, I'm all ears. Happy to meet you, have a great day and thanks for the love too, I really do appreciate it!

Hey Karen. Hopefully you are feeling much better and enjoying a wonderful thanksgiving.🍃🍂🍁
This video came up in my RUclips suggestions.
Arrgghh, "shut up, Caroline, you are seriously getting on my wick!!"😡)
Karen. May you never ever ever cease to amaze!! SO inspiring, SO addictive, SO Awesome! Bye bye🤦♀️🤷♀️🙃💫👋🐾🐾
Girl you are so utterly creative. Are you a writer??? And are you gonna show me your girl???
Your very good love it tfs.
Cynthia Brand Thanks, I appreciate your kind words so so much 😊
Hi Karen, I cannot buy Silver brushes in Australia - could you please advise the next best brush please xxxx
Wha?! Oh no! Okay, plan B, I would honeslty go to a store, if you can. Pick out a natural and soft brush. Nothing stiff and nothing synthetic and you should be fine! Round brushes are best for getting started, number 8 is a great all around brush size as well!!!
She is beautiful .
Thank you, Josie!
If you care to look her up, this is where you can find her ashlylovett.com/
Sorry for being so long winded, I think I am supposed to be a writer as well as an artist! LOL Everyone tells me that all the time! *giggle*
Have the most wonderful day, from your new fan and friend!
Happy to meet you, have a great day and thanks for the love too, I really do appreciate it!

do you have to let the paint dry between the shading layers on the face?
Yes, for this technique it is really dry brushing the whole time, so VERY little paint/wetness onto a dry surface/layer. Great question!
Stunning
Corinne Marneffe Thank you 😙
My favorite❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
rablount thank you!!! 😙😙
She's lovely!
Patty Bover Thanks so very much!
This is so cool. I kept thinking she would be perfect as cat woman with her proportions.
Oh right on! I can see that too!!

again another fab face, I'm wondering why you didn't use your " hamburger system here? thank you ,😊
If I had coated her with Mod Podge (which I could have done) she would have been a Hamburger! This is also an older video where I was still not as addicted to the burger and still experimenting quite a bit!
loved this! You didnt do the mod podge trick on this one....
Terrie Carlson thank you! Nope, just water activation, must not have been in the mood that day!
