sorry to disappoint but bbc programme announcers didn't sit watching the tv all evening... between making announcements for tv shows, they'd be making pre-recorded radio announcements and often offering voice over work for multiple tv programme promos or trailers.... yep, when they went home that evening they'd already have a 'running order' of all the announcements they were to do the next day along with all the recordings they were to make... occassionally news presenters might step in and do the tv announcements.
Not to make light of the horror of "Threads," but I must admit that, being an American, I couldn't help but think of the scenes on "Flying Circus" parodying BBC announcers. "Well it's five past nine and almost time for six past nine. And later this evening, it'll be ten o'clock." ;)
repo136 I've read about it and the family. So sad. Poor family. At least Mrs Mathieson has now been reunited with her husband. She died of cancer about a year or so ago. Their son Andrew is a successful businessman in the Scottish kilt industry. Poor lad and his sister. Gawd knows what witnessing your father's brutal murder does to your mind especially when you're teenagers like they were 😢
I wish we could go back to that kind of professionalism in the BBC. No identity politics, just pleasant, well spoken voices that were a pleasure to listen to. The animation for the darts championships is rather unfortunate considering the topic of "Threads" beforehand!
I'd like to think that the announcer was also effected by Threads if his tone of voice at the beginning is anything to go by.
wMTF2 definitely. Think you are spot on there. Threads did make everything else seem very pointless - even darts!
They had a TV monitor in the Broom Cupboard, so it's almost guaranteed he just saw it and was affected by it.
Without a doubt Iv never been affected by a film til I watched threads
WonderMedia / wMTF2 yeah, he was like 'what the hell have I just watched?' Must of been shocked (like the rest of us who watched it)

The lengthened "We..." says it all.
7 million TV viewers with good reason left traumatized and paranoid.
Publicat pe 10 iun 2018
Sounds like the BBC2 announcer was also shocked himself after that. And with good reason.

Just read up on that poor dad murdered on holiday in front of his family. The killers got 71 years combined and even tried kidnapping the judge(!)

The father sacrificed his life to stop the idiots harming the kids and their mother.
Oh the irony of the article beginning at 4:35...
Peter Bolgar is a broken man.
Anyone who watched it is a broken person.
I know it was 'different times' but...David Mellor's jacket!

When the BBC *actually* informed, educated and entertained.
@@SuperTed19021 And very much part of the establishment
Interesting to see the aftermath of "Threads".
Spoiler alert: The human race is fucked.
*Nothing thus change...*
Threads should be shown to every 15 year old
*EVERY SINGLE WORLD LEADER TODAY!*
I feel the same way announcer dude.
Anyone please name the voiceover artiste..... thankyou! james
Peter Bolgar - one of the legendary BBC continuity announcers.
Aww, I missed the best part: Jane giving birth to her deformed, stillborn child! All joking aside, "Threads" still gives me nightmares.
Same.
