    What I find ironic is that JRock was trashing on Fikshun for choreographing his rounds (apparently he thinks the water bottle is a choreo) but he decided to bring 2 dancers and choreograph bits with them. Like wtf?

    Fikshun won. Dance is meant to be intriguing even to the normy "know nothing" that's what makes it amazing. So if poppers want to support jrock on the count of technique good luck . But look around ... this is not poppers con .And the crowd is not the poppers council. It's a dance battle so u better bring your skill with something fresh not the same popping moves we have aaaaaall seen before a thousand of times... like even with the crew he brought...even with the costumes. I was expecting more from him to be honest. But I guess CGI and animation will always be fiction. Pun intended

J Rock had nothing to prove but it seemed like he did so it made him look bad Unfortunately... Especially being a Vet in the culture... All he had to do was BE HIMSELF no theatrics... I’ve seen J Rock do way better in any other battle... This didn’t show J Rock full potential... That’s his own fault...
    Fikshun was himself the whole time and didn’t care what was being thrown at him... He’s always been with the smoke since I’ve known him... He was like 14-15 tryna battle me when I was in my early 20s... He’s doing him and that’s all you need to bring to the battle... Be you 💯 and what happens happens... In this case he took a W...

    Taking away the techniques and styles part, I always think wearing big loose jacket in popping battle never ends well. It just doesn’t work in visuals because it hides most of the subtle details. It doesn’t matter if it’s for theatricality. And bringing the crew choreography on 1 on 1 is always a Lose already.

    Fikshun won the battle and that's clearly visible. I have a huge respect for J Rock . I follow him and he has got a really strong foundation but the way most of these underground dancers or OG's ( whatever you say ) present themselves is really boring for the normal crowd because they hardly understand what is scarecrow or what is a boogaloo walk out. After a certain point I find these people very restricted . They don't care what the crowd wants to watch, they just force their own things and make the crowd watch it. And yeah he really came with a lot of negativity . That really sucks man. He shouldn't have done this and could have presented himself in a more pleasing manner.

    its crazy how a bunch of haters think Fikshun is a tiktok dancer when this guy was a known street dancer before he went on SYTYCD. so he's definitely seasoned in entertaining the crowd with dance skills as well as tricks. he stayed true to himself in this battle, JRock seem like he had the most to prove instead of just sticking to what he does best.

    I said this in your previous video talking of their battle coming up, "OGs are the most close minded group of ppl in the dance world...usually." And would you look at that, J Rock is showing just how close minded he is. A quote from another video I think had a lot of truth to it, "Smh this battle is a good example of why dancers shouldn't limit their dance vocabulary to one style only and call it (foundation) because you will eventually run in to a dancer like fik-shun and get demolished.dance style purists will always be at a disadvantage despite their skill and reputation.fik shun killed all rounds meanwhile Jrock killed the first round."
    Where I differ is, I dont think J Rock killed any rounds. And it was so embarrassing that he used his cronies to chime in on his one on one battle. To be fair, the music wasnt poppin music...but there lies the problem, old school styles like poppin will NEVER keep up with styles that can utilize that gamut of music. And getting smoked in that gimmicky getup along with his cronies was cringy AF.
    J Rock is delusional, like a relgious nutcase who is so wrapped up in tradition, they can never question their own belief systems. And that is a serious crutch. Hip-hop has so many different styles and he is stuck in just "old-school", poppin/lockin/animation/etc. But I guess he can stay in his echo chamber of ppl who think the same and be okay with that level of mediocrity.

    • @SlickRick4EVER
      @SlickRick4EVER 3 года назад

      Closed minded, yet you are closed minded to criticize JRock rather than the splatter style that Fiction has? Ask a boxer to be open minded to use kicks in boxing.... then get laughed at. I don't care if it is a "freestyle" battle; but if your specialty is strong, then you fire your strengths. I hope that the next generation shits on how you had it.

    • @foyo5497
      @foyo5497 3 года назад

      @@SlickRick4EVER Im criticizing certain thought patterns of dancers, not popping as a whole. And using kicks in boxing has nothing to do with being open minded, those are just simply rules. A better analogy would be say this Bruce Lee quote - “To be bound by traditional martial art style or styles is the way of the mindless, enslaved martial artist. But to be inspired by the traditional martial art and to achieve further heights is the way of genius.” Not arguing whether Bruce was a legit fighter or not, but we can see in MMA that its not smart to stick to one style. And if anything, a freestyle battle is more comparable to MMA.
      Im not even a fan of Fik-Shun. I think if it was Slim Boogie who battled Fik-Shun, Slim would have taken it. Why? Because Slim has a larger library of movements to go with the sounds in music, and he is also great at dancing to non-popping music.
      Im around the same age as JRock, maybe even older. I was bboying and popping from the mid-90s to late 2000s and I used to have a similar mindset as JRock. I can look at the new styles and actually appreciate how ppl have taken what was created in the past, then put their own spin on it.
      Again, Im not criticizing a generation of dance, only the individual dancers who are enslaved by their own dogma.

    • @foyo5497
      @foyo5497 2 года назад

      @@good2go619 "Old school styles" is the key part here. You showed examples of 2 new school poppers. Me personally Ive always looked at Kuty as a hip-hop dancer with a lot of popping influence. But notice how Kuty and Mt. Pop utilize the gamut of music, which was my point. You dont see old schoolers like J Rock or Boogaloo Sam utilizing the music to the same level, let alone even dance to music that isnt "popping music".
      I remember a battle between J Rock and Slim Boogie. A tight new school song came on I believe on the second round and the crowd got hype. Boogaloo Sam, one of the judges told them change the song saying "That aint popping music!". Thats some goofy old school nonsense lol

    • @good2go619
      @good2go619 2 года назад

      @@foyo5497 "old school styles like poppin" is how I read it because that's what you wrote. I interpreted that as you saying popping is an old school style. I understand your point, but think you could have written it better. I think you didn't need to talk about popping in generalities when your issue is with the traditional mindset of certain individuals.
      Kuty is a hip hop dancer. I have never seen him in any popping battles. Kuty vs Mt Pop was an exhibition battle of hip hop vs popper. Also at this event was an exhibition battle of Icee vs Acky as well as other popper vs hip hop battles.

    Saw jrock & his crew (Popula, a chick called Lady Sheeva or somethin) back at Best of the Best in KC bout '03 or so. All the big faces there - Wiggles, Salah, Suga Pop, etc etc.
    I'll never forget the faces. It was easy to see who just wanted to have fun & was happy to be there....vs who was trying to prove somethin, get famous, etc.
    Jrock went hard no doubt, but I barely saw him smile - like it was more about bein' serious than just havin a good time. Anyway. That was my first impression.
    Much respect to both. Been following the scene for almost 20 years now, and my favorite thing about it is & always will be the fun, the silliness, the creativity, laughter, friendships etc. To me that's the difference between being 'good' & 'great'.

    I am putting my analysis on this video.
    1. about the "back up dancers" on JRock's side, its the same thing as when larry /Laurent does 1v1 but has a quick hype/choreo moment in battles. so yes you can do that on 1v1 rounds.(on the same note, he is sending a message or a lesson from the west coast with all of what he has going on with the clothes and props, etc. most wont know but only the OGs do)
    2. This is a battle and in battles its about facing your opponent, not the judges, not the crowd, just you and your opponent. So that matters A LOT!
    3. Again this is a battle, which means taunting and intimidating your opponent is allowed (a lot of people don't like when people do it but it is allowed as long as there is no fighting) so what Jrock did is what battles come with.
    4. This is an ALL STYLES BATTLE which means anything goes in terms of dancing and music. Now speaking of the 3rd round (the video that got cut off), it was funk, and fik-shun wasn't showing much funk or being in line with the music (which happens in all styles battle) so eventually the edge will go in the opponents favor when its a music that vibes more with the dancer's style (which also wins the battle) and 4th round was dubstep which both was having a hard time with so the point is who ever vibes with the music most usually gets the edge.
    5. Because there was no judges, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE except the dancers themselves can say who won and who lost. Fans can suck up all they want but most fans don't know how to dance let alone have knowledge of it. You can have your opinion of who won for sure, you can say fik-shun won, you can say JRock won, but at the end of the day you have no say in the matter when it comes to this because fans will always stick to whoever they are fans of aka BIAS. Only the dancers will admit who won.
    It doesn't matter who I think won, but I do have to say at the end of the battle I like to give a hand shake or a pound to show respect but in some cases if someone takes it too seriously they wont. So it is what it is.....a battle.

      People say this, but please note a 1 on 1 battle where one backed up the other. They only do it in 2v2 events where they're partners and it's permitted. They've danced solo plenty like at Summer Dance Forever, HHI 2012, Red Bull BC One 2016, WOD San Diego, Battle Bad 2019, and other events that are 1 on 1 and I've never seen them back each other up. JRock played himself. All of that talk about how Fikshun has nothing but gimmicks and choreographed sets but as soon as it''s time to battle Fikshun, JRock is the one who's coming with costumes and props and didn't do anything noteworthy with any of them throughout the entire battle. He even broke character several times which is funny since he swears that he's a better animator than Fikshun, who actually did animate a few times in the battle AND stayed in character. JRock got 5'0'd by a so-called Tik ToK/commercial dancer (JRock's words) that he swore that he was better than in every aspect of dancing. Oh well.

    I definitely give the W to fik-shun, but I still enjoy J-rocks style and attitude. The way Jrock is always promoting and spreading the word of old school popping brings something great to dance.
    Truth is, it's a bit absurd to compare 2 styles that are so different. They both work really well if but into the right context. LIke if you put ranch dressing on apple pie, it would taste pretty bad. Does that mean ranch dressing is terrible? No. It just means it's not suited to for that particular context.

    I definitely had Fikshun winning the battle 100%. The music was pretty bad after the first two rounds though. Fikshun easily took round 2 and I think he edged him out the first round. The last 2 rounds just were off to me from both sides. I think Fikshun did better on the second to last song, but neither were really feeling it, can't blame them though. It's on the DJ. I think this battle came down to all-styles vs one style kinda like you said how JRock wasn''t adapting. I think his attitude was fine though for a callout battle, but I do think he came off bad since he wasn't killing it. To me if you're gonna be like that you have to kill it.

    Robert said that JRock was "bringing a lot of negativity to the circle," but it's a battle and there was tension and beef already. Also he was in character in a battle, beast mode, so he's not going to come all friendly at him. You could also argue that Fikshun brought bad vibes too during the battle with his gestures and comments during JRock's rounds. Also, judging these battles all comes down to personal preference and opinion. Murraine is more theatrical and an entertainer (as well as a great dancer) and so of course he would like Fikshun's water bottle routine and shoe tricks, whereas other dancers thought it was just whack and another trick/concept/gimmick that Fikshun usuallys relies on.
    Robert, did you not think that JRock had better foundation, technique and more styles (all styles?) Scarecrow, puppet, animation, popping, locking, snaking etc. and that he did those styles better than Fikshun? Also, you should have mentioned JRocks video that he posted where he explains in great detail the purpose of the crew members and how he DID shake Fikshun's hand after. What did you think of JSmooths comment on Jade's post and in the Whats Poppin group, talking about Fikshun being off beat, relying on punchlines, no foundation and not incorporating many styles since it was an all styles battle?

    I was there. Jrock is a much better dancer than that, and everyone (especially you Fantastic) in the popping community knows that. The outfit honestly took away from his dance and the details in it. The music that whole night was more geared towards meme dancers. I mean there were a lot of amazing dancers there, but thats just their thing in that community. Totally different atmosphere than what poppers are used to. When they played "Vivrant Thing" by Q-Tip, I really started to cringe. When they played "Sexy Dancer" by Prince, I got hype as fuck but I'm sure you edited it out cause of copyright issues? To me that was the one round where Jrock really shined, and even still he could have done WAY better. Both great dancers, but that reminded me of when you get in a battle in a trendy club and they are just playing shitty music. Jrock needed to adapt, but he didn't.

    I dunno man where to even judge from there's different perspectives one that favor either dancer : fikshun was full of concepts yes but traditional foundation wasn't exactly super strong but this was an all styles so from that perspective that definitely played to his strength most def
    And I will say this that I feel the DJ may have been a little lackluster for the event to be honest a dj can make or break an event sometimes , I cringed at that dubstep wobble moments , but j rock definitely brought the foundation but seeing as it was a battle against a dancer with a level of creativity like fikshun I just wish jrock would have explored more concepts , like how dope would it have been if he actually used the umbrella in the back yo , nevertheless these 2 definitely represent their points of view but hopefully a dancer eats up both sides teachings and spits out something phenomenal in a dancer : looking forward to your outlook on the full story of this battle not gonna lie its alot more fun the ride then destination lol ^w^

    Jrock won, and if people cared enough to watch the interviews after you would understand his rationale for everything . Jrock says he knew fikshun was practicing water bottle
    Choreography so when he went for the bottle jrock knew during his own round what was coming. Tainted the water bottle round for me , plus after he dropped the water bottle
    Fikshun was off beat the rest of the entire round. People don’t see this??? I’ve watched some fikshun solos on stage after the battle and I see very little difference between his rounds vs jrock and his performances . I don’t feel inspired when I see his rounds because they don’t look spontaneous . When he was free styling I liked it , but having to dissect what looked like choreography between everything was exhausting to watch . Both sides used choreography yes, but from an originality standpoint jrock took it , I’ve never seen anything like it before in a battle . If You wanted to see fikshun perform on stage you could just watch this battle. Anyways love for both dancers. No disrespect this is my
    Honest opinion.

When he's not negative and just dancing and focused on the music, he's a good dancer. When he gets negative, it's hard to watch (cringe-y and uncomfortable). Poppers should be able to dance to all kinds of music if they can dance. But Jrock seems to have a deep-rooted insecurity that turns him into a classless rhythmless artless bully.
