  • Defunct Games reviews Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express by Microids, available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Switch and PC.
Based on one of Agatha Christie’s most beloved and well-known mysteries, Murder on the Orient Express takes the premise and expands on it with tons of puzzles, lots of intrigue and a fleshed-out story that doesn’t end where you might expect. While the story will be predictable to anybody who has seen the movies or read the book, there’s enough charm and puzzle solving to keep even the most hardened private eye entertained. The game does drag a bit and the presentation feels rooted in the past, but this adventure game makes a strong case for why we need more Poirot mysteries on modern consoles. No matter if you’re a long-time fan or a first-time passenger, there are enough twists and turns in Murder on the Orient Express to keep everybody happy.

Well, I've never read the book, and only Orient Express I've seen is that stereotypical tag team from late 1980s early 1990s WWF, so for me, probably would work piecing together who done it. And that part at the end, sounds like in a way it's a free DLC to the game. So maybe I'll check it out. As for the question, without being familiar with the character, I'll say Clue would be a good one. I'm sure he could figure out the room, weapon, and killer quite well. 😉

Is it still worth playing if you have watched the films? I feel its weird to play a detective game where I know the anwser

While the book/movie's brilliant ending is left unchanged, how you get there is a bit different and there's some fun new stuff after Poirot gets off the Orient Express. There are a lot of puzzles and changes to the investigation leading up to the big reveal, and they do a great job of fleshing out the B-story involving the missing girl. If you're interested but fear the ending won't be as impactful, wait for a sale and give it a try. It's still a fun game, even knowing the big twist.
