Spirituality and Art | Henry Shukman (Part 1)

- Опубликовано: 15 авг 2024
- How does spirituality and art go hand in hand? Why do we feel so touched and transcended by certain art pieces? In this delightful conversation, Rupert Spira and Henry Shukman, an English poet and writer, explore this topic from all angles while also diving into their own artistic backgrounds and spiritual paths in life.
Rupert suggests that a masterful work of art has the power to bring us to taste the nature of reality, which is oneness, by creating an intervention in our normal dualistic states of perceiving. Thus, the true or highest purpose of art is to reveal pure intimacy without otherness.

This dialogue was a piece of art in itself. Thank you to all involved😊
Amazing dialogue. Thank you.
What a privilege to witness the loving connection between Rupert & Henry & to also witness the host witnessing same and feeling the connection between all three! Super interesting discussion. I very much look forward to part 2. I shall keep striving to express that which must be expressed. The excitement of being alive was so palpable. I am very in-spira-ed ha ha. Interested also to read Henry's work. It is so wonderful to come across "new" people. Such an abundance of wisdom freely flowing. God bless. xxx
What a brilliant shining conversation between two men who have travelled to the peak of their respective Artistic paths and have then understood beyond time, the beauty of eternity…….
What a wonderful dialogue, indeed! I was particularly struck by that "disinterested affection" which is both the place the author of an artwork is in and the place the audience is meant to be in, or even meant to be drawn in. Even if, in case of a book or a movie, the subject is about a criminal, then still there is this disinterested affection which is the most important point. In that respect I am reminded of the movie "Der Hauptmann" where I exactly felt the love of the makers of the movie shining through ever so subtly but undeniably even though the brutal and shocking content of the movie at times. It is interesting that the deep quality of such a difficult story and the deep quality of a beautiful portret lie in the source from which it is explored and expressed as one inseparable process. The work of art is equally about the struggle for achievement as for the achieved. In fact there is only the precipitation of that struggle as both the only thing that is there to the artwork, without pretense of ever achieving anything else than the achieving, and yet there is also that presence which makes that which is there utterly unimportant to that quality of reality experienced and revealed.
Thanks so so much…”Jesus wasn’t a Christian “ absolutely loved it 🤟🏿
Wow! Beautiful conversation. Thank you! 🙏
And rupert's take on discipline as the background on which genius germinates.exactly.i have been a student of christian missionary school (india).the traditional discipline inculcated there in me as a student, clubbed with 2nd world war veterans at home, strict discipline, generously peppered with love for kids, made me what i am in the sixth decade of my life.
A very moving conversation! Thank you three for making this available ❤
Great! How amazingly BEAUTY is expressing Itself!❤️ Thanks a lot!
Oh you two... Thankyou. Absolute delight
This video presents spirituality in a very new light.hats off to the introduction by the anchor.grt homework.excellence is deeply inlaid in a series of failures which result from mistakes.very truly said by henry
Yes words are lyrical and can be visceral, just the sounds, and the purely surreal aspect of words, concepts, potentiality...
Cold and warm at the same time; distant and close. 45:48
Reminds me of these lines from the Tao Te Ching:
When you realize where you come from,
you naturally become tolerant,
disinterested, amused,
kindhearted as a grandmother,
dignified as a king.
Wow. Amazing. So meaningful to me. From the artist/writer/actor part of me as well as the spiritual/truth-loving part (I know I’m being dualistic but it’s just a way to express it). Please please have these two back again for more!!
Marvelous ! And yes to sequels. Please sir may i have some more sir? Thank you all 3 very much.
This video moved my experience on multiple levels. And Henry - what a beautiful way to close the last several minutes. Profound

It is a Magical Power!
Great discussion---many thanks
Can't wait to see the sequel video to this one❤
Brilliant conversation, love & peace!
Dear Rupert,
Considering a perspective of Jim Morrison of the band The Doors, i.e. art - poetry in his words - does not say anything, it only opens the doors of perception and given we do not know what we humans exactly are while living - making, integrating, taking part - in a world of nowadays that tells us to be anything and everything to the point which being ourselves becomes very difficult, regarding Buddhism, what is the best way for a human being to exist?
Regarding the same question, under a different point of view, in light of Charles Chaplin's movie "Modern Times" when the character he plays becomes nearly a piece of engine, when I am in leisure moments, I am paying attention to myself, then it is something personal and existing becomes favorable. On the other hand, when I am at work, it is an impersonal moment and I pay attention to someone/something else which makes existing less favorable. So, considering Buddhism, what is the best way for a human being to exist?
Thanks!
Best wishes,

Thanks!!✌️
More, please.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Take nature and wilted plant devoid of water or sunlight in contrast to a healthy vibrant plant. It would be undisputable which is beauty to the finite mind.
The same with a sentient being of healthy body to the finite mind.
To the infinite all is beauty indistinguishable.
Case proof could be something like an attractive person with no moral compass outwardly exhibiting emotional trauma.
Or the most revered pieces of an art gallery obtained through the shed of bloody war and the artist were financed similarly.
There are finite mind perspectives that are going to view works of art differently.
A true tribute to infinite has to be universal and therefore will probably not consist of some creation by the finite, but of an infinite modulated extension.
That could look like a natural body and mind condusive and resonate with the harmonic cycles of Nature acquired through the intelligence derived from awareness being. 💙
Offerings to Krishna. or offerings to the finite? 🤔
Making a living or living. 💙

too bad the art world doesn't get this .. see frieze, fiac, basel .. stress-on-the-walls seems to be good art to the art world
There is another art world. The silent ones.
Blessings and wellbeing.
..and I shall call it InFi beyond WiFi. : Infinite/ finite.
