After following this tutorial my spacebar does not work at all, it will not come up without levering something under it. I have spent 2 hours taking it out and putting it back, no luck. This is my third keyboard of this type, and the third to fail because of s spacebar. At this point it is a $100 per quarter keyboard subscription all because of spacebars. I love this keyboard too much to not buy a new one, but I REALLY wish they would fix the spacebar issues.
Thank you! So happy to be typing this with a working space bar again, and not having to buy a new keyboard! A few comments were really helpful as well: using a credit card works just as well as a guitar pick, and also I cleaned everything using alcohol and q tips. Thanks again!
OK I went all over the internet because this tutorial seems to be the only one that helps yet for me it wasn't working, my spacebar was still getting all stuck and even though it kind of worked, it was slow coming up and frustrating because it didn't "pop" back up like the other keys. UNTIL I saw a post on reddit saying that you should also clean the scissor mechanisms (small white plastic bits that swivel). Now I did that before and it wasn't working and that's because you really have to clean the s**t out it. Here's how I did it: First you need to take those scissor mechanism plastic things and try to separate them. They are linked in the middle where it rotates, it's like an axis. All you need to do is press a bit in the top and bottom with your fingers until it comes loose and you can remove the inner white piece of plastic. Second you need to wash them in alcohol to get rid of the gunk, I found that alcohol and cotton buds worked really well, clean every goddamn single surface!!! and also make sure to use something to clean the little holes where the pieces join, where it rotates. Now put the pieces back together and to test if it's clean enough, you can hold the outer piece by itself and the inner piece should rotate by itself, through gravity alone, without assistance. If it does that, then you're good to go and it will get that "pop" again. It's f*cking ridiculous that it comes down to such little tiny almost microscopic details, but this should work. I was going insane because nothing was working for me, but this actually fixed it.
Thank you for this! I've been trying to find a solution for like 6 months because just a reinstall didn't work for me. It's still not as clicky as it used to be but at least it is in place and works like it used to! Maybe I will give it another cleaning after using it like this for a while. :)
My friend spilled Cola on keyboard, and i fix spacebar. After reatachment spacebar is flat. I tried it about 2 hours, and after reatachment it still flat. But, actually, colla dont spilled into spacebar and not a reason of the problem I pulled out the white mechanisms and inserted them into the button separately without the keyboard. But they don't move freely. Could this be the problem?
Thanks, for sharing this! This was really helpful and easy to follow. I had spilled coffee on the keyboard and the spacebar became sticky. I took it apart but when replacing it back on, something wasn't right. Your video helped me to put it back the right way and now I am able to continue on being happily productive for work.

It does seem that the other keys are slightly higher positioned. It seems that this is on both our keyboards. Barely noticeable, but I think it is supposed to be that way. Cheers.
Great tutorial! Btw, if you don't have a guitar pick, using a credit card will work just fine. I was eating in front of my computer. After, I noticed the spacebar was less "springy". Problem persisted the next day. I assume a little grease or sauce from the food got caught in the keys. Anyways, I dismantled the spacebar using this tutorial, cleaned all the parts with rubbing alcohol, waited for it to dry, then put it back together. Now, my spacebar is as springy as it was before! =)
My spacebar works. But It does not wanna come back up. Its just stuck in the lowest position possible without activating the spacebar key. It does not come back up.
Only way to get it to work okay is just to not attach it completely and kinda halfway so it got room to pop up or something like that. Might be time for new one, this one has served me well for like 5 years lolol.
@@apfeltasten rubber dome still intact and works fine. My guess is that the brackets dont work as intendent. Ive talen it off and on multiple times and tried flipping the spacebar. This video helped me fix my K780 spacebar that fell out after a drop. What worked best for me was placing the square parts on the space bar itself instead.
Worked for me! I too was having issues trying to actuate from the far ends of the spacebar. I used a toothbrush to help clean out the debris. I have the iFixit tool kit shown in the video, and now see the primary use for those guitar-pick-looking spudgers.

It didn't work propperly 100%. Putting it back once, the spacebar won't come up automatically. Not sure, if the "feather" nipple works so well... 😞 But thanks anyway for the video!
Nice, just did my cleaning and it is like new. One thing is when you are removing the key do not push the bit that you are using for that too deep as you can snap off some of the plastic legs inside. Like I did
You are a lifesaver! For those who aren't sure about the orientation of the plastic mechanism and also the spacebar itself. Plastic mechanism: There is a tilt on it. It should be arranged so that the tilt can lift from the top. Also on the plastic mechanism there is one side where there are kind of like four notches. Two of them are more centered. That part should be at the bottom end. For the space bar itself, there should be a plastic potrusion where the gapped side of the inner metal ring (there is a gap of one side) should fit nicely. Once you fit the inner metal ring correctly, you can watch the video to see the correct orientation of the space bar. Thanks again apfeltasten!
I dropped my coffee on it and the space key stuck. I managed to take it off but not put it back on. You saved me the cost of buying a new keyboard. THANKS
Hey thanks for the video. What can cause lack of "springback" when i push the space key? It works ok, but it doesn't come back to the "up" position once I press it. And the key became very sensitive.
