I saw them live when they had released their very first record. Had no idea who they were. No youtube back then. They blew me away. Went and talked to them. Super cool guys. Been a fan ever since. Going on 20 years.
just turned 36 years old. love this band to the core just the same as i did on day one. hardcore man. very well written. darkest hour just has the tangy zip to the miracle whip. excellent music.
One of the many introductions I had into metal. Waaay back in 2003-2005, I was introduced to Darkest Hour, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Unearth... Man, did I fucking love this album. I listened to it CONSTANTLY.
You'd classify D.H. as metal? I'm not saying you're wrong, but I feel like there is a more specific word than that. To me it sounds like a metal and hardcore crossover. Not like D.R.I. and not like Hatebreed... same crossover, different results. I mean, if you put this beside say, Megadeth, Metallica, or Venom.... the big metal bands... it's hard to say it's the same genre. There is clearly metal in this, but I can't call it metal. In my mind, metal was an 80s thing. Definitely not a post 2000 thing. But then, I listen to new hardcore and punk bands 35 or so years after the time of those genres too.
Even more relevant than ever. Regardless of your beliefs on gun control anyone that can't understand something is seriously wrong is out of touch with reality. "One nation under the gun where forward thinking is shunned"
Yeah, tell me about it. I bought this album a year or so after it came out. It was on a whim because I had no idea who they were, but the name reminded me of MegadetH...so I spent the 15 bucks. And Ive not regretted it since. This album was blasted at every party I drank at for many years. Damn good times.
This was among the bands I discovered with the little extra Victory Records CD they gave you with every album. Great memories. Bury Your Dead, BTBAM, so many great bands.
That's true ! When I heard it for the first time - I thought "what da fuck is this? fuck that!"... But after some time I managed to discover the melodic part of this song, read lyrics which are related to the 2nd Amendment ... And since then I fell in love with this song and even learned how to play it on guitar ! This song is one of my favorite from the whole DH repertoire!
That's awesome man, I freaking love playing this kind of music on guitar. In my opinion I can enjoy a song a lot more if I can also play it. Bands like, Darkest Hour, All That Remains, All Shall Perish, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Amon Amarth, fucking complete my life. Never stop playing! \m/ \m/
there wasn't and still isn't any other album even close to this one. it speaks the truth and shreds. love DH they've been my fav band from the beginning
I immediately thought of this song after hearing about all the things that happened in Orlando. Not much more to say. I don't feel like ranting for now. Peace guys.
This is the darkest hour that I fell in love with back in the early 2000s. For those who don't know, Anders from At The Gates produced this album (the whole album is very Gothenburg sounding) and he recorded those vocals around the 2:45 mark!
Norm Andres Gomez . Dude that’s awesome. I knew at the gates and the haunted were influences of Darkest hour but i didnt know The legend produced this, makes sense.! I was wondering how they got those tones.
Man this was such a great time in the American metalcore genre. You had bands like Darkest Hour, Unearth, As I Lay Dying were just getting really popular, etc. I had albums like Ondoing Ruin, Deliver Us(My favorite), Oncoming Storm, and Shadows are Security on constant repeat. I was just really starting to get into guitar playing at the time and these bands really shaped my guitar playing. I was 18-19 at the time this album came out. I got to see all of them live during their golden years(in my opinion). Saw Darkest Hour twice, both times during their Deliver Us tour cycle, both times with Kris Norris. Saw Unearth several times, As I Lay Dying several times, other bands like All That Remains, August Burns Red(Thrill Seeker and Messengers were out by then), so many good bands. Darkest Hour just sort of totally fell off my radar when Kris left the band though. Still love them though. Their singer was just particularly vicious with the way he screamed. I fucking loved it and I love how in this song they got the vocalist for At The Gates to do some screams. You can tell they were heavily influenced by swedish melodic death metal and bands like At The Gates, In Flames, etc. They even went to Fredrik Nordstrom to record this album, the same guy who recorded Colony and Clayman for In Flames.
They were so influenced by melodeath that they were melodeath... Maybe you could argue that from Deliver Us and on they were metalcore, but before that they were melodeath.
You know... just uh... back in the day when people were actually [screaming] for something. It hasn't been answered; but it has most definitely resonated.
one of the bests albums from 2003 alongside As I Lay Dying, Trivium, Dark Lunacy, Children Of Bodom, Machine Head, Detonation, The Black Dahlia Murder, Apocalyptica, ill Niño, Thrice, Dimmu Borgir, Chimaira, Arch Enemy, Bleeding Through, Soilwork, Sepultura, Caliban, Dream Theater, From Autumn To Ashes, A7X, Strapping Young Lad, just naming a few..... LOL
Sir you are a clown. Anyone who asks if people are listening to a song still in a certain year should go back to wherever they crawled out of and stay there. I don't see why people are sooooo concerned about what year it is. If you like the song or band then it doesn't matter what year it fucking is. Your all fools and lost if you do
Members changed, Kris Norris (lead guitar on Sadist Nation, Undoing Ruin, and Deliver Us) left the band in 2008. IMO The Human Romance is every bit as good as the trilogy, but yeah they've never been quite the same since.
I used to get one random CD that caught my eye every month from age 10 all the way to age 31, this was one of those albums. I was in an FYE and the artwork caught my eye and then I saw that it was on Victory so I grabbed it. Definitely one of my best random album buys, I wish I still did it but unfortunately my local record store closed down about 3 or 4 years ago and the closest one is over an hour away from where I live.
I was 14, saw these dude at the AXIS (that’s how fucking long ago this was)in Boston, MA with ANTI-FLAG lol! This was the first time hearing of Darkest Hour. Looked them up and loved it, they blew Anti-flag out of the water, performance wise.
I can't say that darkest hour is my favorite band, they hold a very special place BUT... that 1:52 build-up and on is one of the best shit my ears ever listened to.
DH kinda died when this line up was done, i'll remember you forever my dear friends, Hidden Hands... and Undoing Ruin are still my favorite albums of HS time, i've two kids now and DH is regularly played in the household
I work at a dispensary and the lead guitarist shops there. I try my best every week not to be a star struck fan boy and hes the nicest fucking dude. Ive been listening to them since high school and every time i see him I have to pretend im not losing my shit
Been jamming their albums since their rise..i have seen them over 30 times and have all kinds of memorabilia like , hats..shirts..wrist band..shot glasses.etc. I loved the last album but I want a return of form with this line- up..i know Kris may be busy , but I would let Lone Star play that part.. I miss the rhythm section and Parish added a lot..
I'm 40 years old, and this still hits hard! This band changed my life.
Still til this day...one of the best songs ever
100% 🤘
Such great melodies, harmonies, and song writing wrapped in a gritty and aggressive package.
The message is more accurate now then ever too, one nation under the gun, where forward thinking is shunned.
It really is epic
Fact
This whole album still rules.
2020STILL ROCKIN IT

I like how the entire song is fast as fuck, but still melodic at times.
That's true ! When I heard it for the first time - I thought "what da fuck is this? fuck that!"... These were the days , where ppl didnt care bout fashion where you just went and had the best time of your life and listen to go music!
Hell yeah! Shit is too much about "style" now a days. Anyone can throw an outfit together but not everyone can produce great music.
