Reading some of these comments is interesting that most people didn't know in classical classical Greek mythology. Medusa was a daughter of Typhon and echidna, the mother and father of all monsters. The story of her being a woman turned into a Gorgon came in a later time around The Roman era but if you went to classical Greek mythology was always a monster.

I don't think Medusa was truly "mortal" because she didnt age and her head still turned things to stone after she was "decapitated" I think it was just that she had the weakest form of immortality becayse she couldnt regenerate. If her sistwrs cant be killed by anything then they are eternal not immortal. Eternal means they WILL live forever. Even after the earth itself is long gone they would exist on another plane. Like the djinn. Immortal means they have the POTENTIAL to live forever but CAN be killed by something, even if that something is the sun exploding and vaporizing the earth into dust

Mortal is just a catch all term for those who can die. Like for example there is a type of jellyfish that is functionally immortal from age based death so the jelly has eternal youth. Same as Medusa meaning she would stay young endlessly. But she could still be killed. Because she wasn't invonerable or immortal like a god is.

Totally agree, only Medusa was cursed by Athena. Her sisters, Stheno and Euryale, were not cursed because they were not involved in the events that led to Medusa’s transformation. However, they were born as immortal Gorgons with monstrous appearances, unlike Medusa, who was originally a mortal and beautiful woman before being cursed.
    Here’s a breakdown:
    Stheno and Euryale:
They were naturally born as monstrous, immortal Gorgons.
They had terrifying appearances from the beginning and were not subject to Athena’s wrath.
    Medusa:
She was originally a beautiful mortal woman.
Athena transformed her into a Gorgon as punishment after Poseidon assaulted her in Athena’s temple.
Although only Medusa was cursed, the sisters became closely associated because of their shared identity as Gorgons. Together, they lived in isolation, and Stheno and Euryale were often depicted as protectors of Medusa after her transformation.

The thing to note is the story of medusa has so many different variations from rape, to adultery to jealousy. but the true original she was always a gorgon. None of that happened to her until the story got adapted to fit the narrative and to draw people in. The way they victimised her in the rewritten stories is what's known today by people who don't research past their bias. It's why I'm also annoyed that the tattoo trend came about because I loved her as the badass she was. Learning about the medusa tattoo trend really put me off because now I can't even show my love for something without being judged by people who only follow tiktok trends to stay relevant

She was so stunningly beautiful men and women everywhere that turned to look at her froze like stone. I'm assuming her sisters had the same thing. Shriek could mean that her cries would be so severe it would cause others to feel her pain or she had an exquisite voice that it shocked people. So maybe when they found out that Medusa was killed her cries was emotionally piercing. Thino has brute strength so she's just extremely strong.

So beautiful in fact that Poseidon god of the sea 🌊 lusted after her n chased her down once, n RAPED HER. Now unfortunately back in the old days in a lot if cultures, it was always the women who got blamed fid being raped n never the men. Basically slut-shaming. So poor Medusa is not only terrorised by a man, she gets shunned by fucking EVERYBODY. She cried out to Athena for help in despair, but the goddess coldly scorned her poor treatment n instead of helping her, she transformed her into something downright diabolical. N with a head of snakes 🐍 instead of hair n petrification powers, this woulda left poor Medusa without a single friend left in all the world. Can you imagine how traumatic n lonely that would’ve been for her? Thats how she’s not truly the villain at all, she was actually the poor victim all along right up until Perseus cut her head off. Thankfully for rape survivors nowadays there’s a lot more help than she got. But for a lot of female rape survivors especially there’s still a whole stupid victim blaming stigmatisation that should never even be allowed to happen. I am an autistic rape survivor n had to face that problem n loneliness all my life. Now I have 3 Medusa feminist empowerment t shirts to make my feelings more clear; that it’s not so much men that I hate; ITS ACTUALLY RAPISTS.. n in my opinion, so should every sane person on the planet 🌍 🤦‍♀️🫂

Curious where this information came from. Not the fact that Medusa had two sisters, but rather Euryale and Stheno having different powers. As far as I remember, they all had the same power of their gaze turning people to stone. While Euryale's voice is mentioned, it is only depicted as being unique in sound, not that it caused death. Stheno is in fact the most brutal of the 3 sisters though, as mentioned in the clip.

Okay, hear me out. Medusa’s story becomes even more intriguing when you think about her connection to her sisters, Stheno and Euryale. Unlike them, Medusa was born mortal and beautiful, while her sisters were immortal Gorgons from the start. So, what if Athena’s curse didn’t fully ‘change’ Medusa but instead revealed a part of her true self that was always connected to her sisters?
It’s possible that her Gorgon form was part of her latent nature-like an inherited trait-that Athena’s curse brought to the surface. In a way, it feels like her fate was tied to her genetics and her family, even though she lived as a mortal. This adds a layer of tragedy to her story: was she destined to become a Gorgon because of who her sisters were, or did the gods’ actions force her into that role? Either way, her transformation shows how interconnected she was to her family, even if her path was unique. Thoughts?
