As a seasoned programmer but newbie to InDesign scripting your vid is perfect, without having to figure it out and reading Adobe's material. I need to automate from the get go, thanks for real time examples , IDE and DOM reference - awesome thankyou 😎
This video is so helpful! Thank you! I'm a beginner at scripts and this is really good to understand the basics, I'll be watching more videos of you, thank you!
For any type of professional design work, I would avoid scaling text horizontally and vertically at different percentages. Font size is always something that changes depending on if it is body copy or a header, or if you are making a postcard versus a large sign, as examples. Yet stretching text is not good. There may be a few applications where this can work, but those are few and far between.
Thanks for a great video- I would love some more scripting tutorials for indesign. One task that I know many people struggle with is creating many hyperlinks within a document, meaning hyperlinks in between different objects or numbers/words within the large document of several pages. That would make a very good subject for a tutorial- just sayin ;) All the best to you! :)
I know this is an advanced function but instead of pasting text, "newTextFrame.contents = TextFrameContents.PLACEHOLDER_TEXT;" is a great way to input Lorem Ipslum
Please make more Indesign scripting tutorials on Indesign. ALso plz explain how to use the DOM. How to read it? There are so many options in there. Its confusing for new comers.
Wonderful tutorial. I have a document which contains 1 text frame. How do I access that text frame and read text line by line and copy it in another text frame...thanks
i want to write my firstscript. I have 2 text frames in my page. Only 1 layer in documnet. I want to read from textframe 1 and copy the content to 2nd text frame how to do that? not getting relevant document for that or may be i am not able to understand which method / function to use. Thanks
Hi, I'm new to scripting in INDESIGN but do have scripting experience. You know when you start typing object names etc. so mydoc = app.activedocument etc.... is there a way like in VB when you put the full stop in it gives you a list? then you can pick what is there, the list I have in extendscript is like a JAVA list not a INDESIGN object list? Any help would be amazing. THanks,
Wow this is pretty amazing... do you have any resources on how to create a front end GUI for one of these scripts instead of just importing and running it through the script panel?
Nice work and explaining man. can you please send me the exe of Extendscript toolkit for the CC 2023 as i can't find it anywhere.! also, i want something that can be help me like EST to get the attribute, definitions. this will be much appreciated.
Very nice explanation. I have experience programming and I thought blender's API was bad, but Adobe, at least for InDesgin is worse, I'm trying to get some images metadata and they're in a Rectangle which neither the types file in VS or the browser show to have more properties (but they have), I have to use alert all the time instead of a log. I'm using your types tutorial so I can use VSCode, because the ancient ExtendScript toolkit autocomplete is even worse and awful to look at, why they don't they have some Drewmweaver integration? (awful program as well) compared to VSCode. And that flash-esque documentation browser is akward to work with.
What do you do when ExtendScript open button is greyed out? Is there any resource on the Internet to learn the Indesign scripting API? When you get to Adobe APIs and click on InDesign you get to a undefined page. Adobe really sucks.
In photoshop, there is a button to create a script, then it records actions. What a shame that we need an engineer to do a script in indesign. I will center my 250 images one by one then, still faster than wasting 10 or 15 years learning hyeroglyphs, sorry I meant programming langage 😅 The video won't help me, but thanks for sharing it anyway

Perfect English. It was easy to understand even for me as a native Japanese.
Very helpful video. I am totally new to scripting but did some programming before. Thank you for clear explanation.
Clear explanation aimed at the total beginner.

This is great. I just heard about it and I found old CS6 manuals. Looking forward to it.

Sounds like a great tutorial but can you please TURN OFF THE MUSIC? Makes it really hard to concentrate.

If you're on Mac you have to use VSCode nowadays!
Your Discord invite expired. What is the difference between the 2 Extendscript executables that are available for Windows?

Hy, I need a contact for a personal script . A good day😊
