Joe, I've been doing a lot of research and your video helped me to confirm a lot of questions. Huge thank you! I'm purchasing Artlist through your link to show some support. Appreciate you!
SoundStripe user, the DMCA is automatic. You just have to select what you are using it for and the title of your project or channel. Once you have it, you get to keep and are safe to use for different projects moving forward. You can do what Artlist avoids by downloading their entire library fairly quickly. I've made my Twitch background music playlist from a bunch of songs and haven't been striked.
Thanks for the review, while I’m looking from the music artist perspective. I think it’s good to know what users think in terms of ease of use/hassle of slapping a soundtrack on their work!
Hey Joey, just so you do know sound stripe doesnt have you fill out those license forms everytime you download a song. Its a simple download button. However if you are using it for TV or Movies then you need to put a name for the project. But thats it pretty much :) Thanks for the info!
Even if it takes 5 seconds, imo its just a pain in the butt. Its also not uncommon for me to change the name of the video either just before uploading or even after upload. So then I’d have to go do it all again. Just my 2¢!
Imagine you use 10 tracks for different parts of your 15 minute video (sometimes just a fraction of a track). You need the tracks NOW - as you edit. And you DON'T know the final title yet. Then you decided - and now you need to go and fill that form 10 times once again. And then right before you press the publish button you've got another insight on a better title -> go back and redo the form 10 time again. Same for when you change it later. Isn't it crazy to keep that in mind all the time as you do one of the most important tasks - choosing a title for your video? Isn't there already enough things to keep in mind and to ruin your creative process / thinking? :)
If Artlist can send you a release form automagically, Soundstripe needs to change its model to get in the game. It's an unnecessary step. But, then again, I'm an Artlist subscriber.
thanks man, honestly, I was using epidemic sound but my license just got canceled and I have been unable to reactivate it. so I'm gonna try my hand with artist. sounds like the best option for my buck.
Thanks Joe. I am just getting started with videography and am probably going to choose Epidemic Sound. I plan on making videos for my one RUclips channel anyway do I think this will be the best fit. Thanks for the info!
Fairly good comparison, thanks. I am researching these companies and have had artlist for a year and considering switching. Couple comments: I think you undervalued soundstripe for sure. The total cost with sfx for artlist is $299 and for soundstripe it’s $245 or so. For only music it’s still cheaper than artlist. I don’t agree with you there. Also, you said you never used soundstripe, but to be fair for this review you could have easily done a 1 month trial and formed your opinions off that. You have great delivery, but you should do a little more planning and research if you want to make videos like this. Overall good job tho.
@@kian.concepcion yeah honestly I’ve used both now and ended up switching back from soundstripe to artlist. From my personal experience, the music in soundstripe was less quality than artlist. But for people who might like the style of music they have, it’s still a good value, but definitely a good point of not being able to use after ending a subscription.
@@fatheadmediapro I might be transitioning myself from Soundstripe to Artlist in the next couple of months. Had my ear out for them for several months - I got a subscription today and I'm loving the selection so far.
@@kian.concepcion yeah honestly the production of most of the music is way better than soundstripe. Not bashing soundstripe, they have a decent selection but it seemed to generic to me. If you do switch I think you won’t be disappointed.
ARTLIST license expire in 2022: The Unlimited license never expires! You’re covered forever on any platform worldwide, and can continue using the assets you downloaded during your subscription in future projects. With the Personal license, every project you create and publish to your channel during your subscription is covered forever! However, once your subscription expires, you cannot use any of the assets you downloaded in new projects.
Great job, and you covered the most important part of all - what happens after your subscription ends. Complete dealbreaker for an Epidemic! Thank you!
What I didn't understand about companies like epidemic sound is that your only protected while using their software so if you switch down the road I guess all that content becomes unusable. I liked artlist but I hate buying lump sum. I was super busy with covid last year "essential medical" and couldn't work on any projects so I felt my $200 was wasted with no way to place a hold on subscription. Not happy. I would feel better about artlist if every time I logged on I wasn't hounded with ads to buy their separate sfx which is included with epidemic.
JUST SUBBED just because of the first time watching 1:36 of this single video! Really great on camera and fastest build of trust I've seen EVER! Great job!
Thank you!!!! Just realized that I can't add this channel to my epidemic sounds so I now have a bunch of work to do.. gotta remove the music. not paying $30/month for 2 newer accounts! edit & PS: hope you get a good commission! I just got Artlist cause of the forever license. One time changing music out of 2 videos is too much wasted time when just begining. Thanks again for the great video!
Thank you for the comparison! I think in general perhaps it would be more fair to the musicians and creators (both sides) if each creator reports where the music is used, some kind of short not complex form. Rather then when they download as I have a lot of songs on my computer but have used only a few of them so far. That way musicians & agencies could understand (if they want to) where their music is used, and hopefully creators would have more freedom where to post. e.g. if it is a big commercial movie their budgets for music are much higher than a youtuber who does not even have their channel monetise and even with monetisation it might not bring enough revenue to cover the music license and other expenses.
What if I use music from Epidemic for RUclips video and then stopped my subscription after few months? What will happen to the uploaded RUclips video? Will it get copyright claim?
Hey Joe, in reference to Epidemics' "30-day trial". This might be a video idea for you to cover - Question: Can you post a video using epidemic sound audio during your 30-day trial with RUclipss private setting, and then change it to public at a later date after you have cancelled the subscription before 30 days has passed? Technically, whether the video publishing setting on RUclips is private or public, is still considered "publishing content". So it should be okay, right? ("Publishing content" are the only words used when describing the terms on Epidemics' "How does the 30-day trial work" section of their website). The answer would definetly be useful to know if someone were to have a video "series" in which videos are published or released in a specific order.
Hey Joe 👋 Have you ever tried out Envato Elements? They do everything from templates, stock footage and music, plus it's super cheap, for sure worth checking out if you haven't before. Enjoyed the video btw👍
I just watched your other video where you talked about epicsound with mentioning artlist in the beginning. In that Video I had the impression you preferred epicsound over artlist but this video proves different. Now I’m a bit confused 🤧 which one do you prefer? And thank you for the GREAT content 👍🏻👍🏻
I like artlist better now! I didnt realize that you could use songs you downloaded from artlist forever when I made the first video. Epidemic caters more toward youtubers and content creators but for someone like me with multiple channels or doing client work, artlist is the way to go imo. That said, they’re both great!
I think you did pretty well in staying objective and giving the facts unless you just didn't tell us something that we needed to know LOL I like the ownership legal rights you get with artlist and I'd probably go with them for my podcast I hope to get it up and running soon really appreciate this content it helps get guys like me started a lot faster than we would've with out it and hopefully make the best decisions when we start out. Liked for sure.
Very detailed and very helpful video! 😊 If someone has an active artlist subscription, then to be able to use for free in multiple channels across any platform, it means all of them must be linked to the same email address?
Informative, thanks. Now, don't take this wrong, ok? lol. You have a really good command of talking to the camera/audience. I have yet to see what kind of content you do but I subscribed.
Hey Joe, An awesome review and very informative, if I use Artlist and I put a video up on RUclips and Facebook is that 2 subscriptions or just the one. Also when I use one of their songs do I have to acknowledge the artist and where I got the song from.
Hi! Thanks for the compliments! With artlist you can post a video on any number of accounts all from one subscription - its a universal license. You wont need to credit the artist or where you got the song. 😄
First of all thank you soo much for really informative video. One more question for you, can I use music and sfx from Artlist in multiple channels from one subscription ?
Hey Joe! I subscribed to artlist after a lot of research and RUclips video comparisons. I have another account for wedding videos and an account separate from that for just fun short film type videos. I used your link to purchase the subscription. Do you know how the two free months works? It is showing that it charged me for 12. Just curios. Thanks for the quality video!
Thanks for watching and for using my link! I appreciate the support. The two free months are added onto the year subscription, so you pay for 12 months, but your subscription will last 14. Hopefully this clarified things for u! Happy creating

I think the trouble is that it is a purely audio focused form of content. Most of the legal stuff these services file for requires digital media. The good news for you is that sound effects in particular have a lot of good free resources (uploaded to youtube) and as far as I am aware, it’s practically impossible to get a copyright claim for using sound effects. @@JosephMartin I do make my audio work in the form of MP4s, containing a cover art image, an audio-wave visualiser for style points and of course the audio. Dose that count as digital media?
New guy question here on the type of account to sign up for... Between "personal" vs "commercial" if I'm going to be creating content for multiple businesses none of which are my own. Which plan would I need? No idea if they'll use it on a RUclips channel that's monetized. More likely just social for general promotion / discussion.
My opinion after 6 months with Artlist: I won't be renewing. Why? It's got such little variety of quality songs. They have a plethora of EDM and house music for vlogging and stuff, but that's not what I do. As a Marketing and Media Director I have to find organic music for our promos, internal videos, etc. There is basically only corny rock music, house music, and very corporate-y music on artlist. I kept trying to look elsewhere to find more music because it was taking me HOURS to find something that fit a specific video. I maybe found like 15 songs in the entire library I liked. Not worth it. If you're only doing corporate gigs that require the stereotypical corporate jingle music, then artlist is for you. If you vlog and do lifestyle videos then this is for you. If you want your music to fit organically to your video, this isn't it. There is very little flexibility with their sound in general.
@@JosephMartin Soundstripe for now it's looking like. None of these sites are perfect, but I'm trying to convince the company to let us get MusicBed since that is the gold standard but comes with a $100/month price tag.
I have the exact same problem. I honestly don't like Artlist but it's the licensing that keeps me going. I have over 150 songs downloaded by them yet I still find myself searching HOURS for a song to fit. I'm trying to find a song that has the same vibe as Hold On by Jet (from Spider-Man 2) and shockingly I can't find anything. High quality sound but not high quality music for a lot of it, unfortuately
As a RUclipsr , I do think the best out there is Epidemic sound although it might seem they are a bit cheeky and greedy. I’ve looked at Artist , I loved their idea 💡 of could still download and keep your music after no subscription deal , but one , they have limited music library , two , you have to subscribed to another term and pay if you need SFX . RUclips videos divinely and definitely need sound effects to boost up things , and tough if such companies ain’t considering that . Artlist would have been the best but for these two reasons …
I was using the trial of epidemicsound, but it was a bummer that you can use the license only on one Channel... So I decided myself for artlist. Love the sounds but as you said Epidemic is a little bit more youtubey or modern. But Artlist does a pretty good job too.
Hey there. Just a heads up, I've noticed that artlist has since changed their subscription plan and licensing. It's now $10 per month but you can't use your downloads once your subscription ends.
Thanks for this review! I was wondering if you would know any sites like those but specifically cater to lofi music? If there are any at all? Or maybe if I'm looking at it wrong, you could point me to the right direction? TYSM!🙏🙏🙏
In my experience Artlist has a lot of lofi, it’s known by the tag “lounge”. You can listen to their offerings with the free trial to see if you like it!
Yeah but... is there any FREE royalty music? Why do people have titles here on youtube that say: "BEST Royalty Free Music Site in 2021" and then they cost money?
Hi, I was wondering how do channels like Smoke Mood get their music, this doesn’t come from any of these sites, looks like directly from the producer or Spotify. Any thoughts on how they get to post this type of music?
@@JosephMartin there are a ton of channels and I noticed they give very detailed credit to the producing company as well as include links to each song and artists social media. That must be the agreement. Give credit an post link and you can use the music. I’m going to look into it as they get a massive amount of watch time

Solid opinion! Thanks for sharing. Where will you be getting your music from instead of artlist?
Thank You for sharing it!
Awesome job! Learned alot ☺
Thank u!
Great Video, thanks man!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
thanks so much for this information
Love Bro )))
Hey there. Just a heads up, I've noticed that artlist has since changed their subscription plan and licensing. It's now $10 per month but you can't use your downloads once your subscription ends.
Great video BTW!
Thanks ben! That’s just for the personal plan, which is new. The unlimited plan is still $16/month with a forever license on the downloads
@Joe Kopmeyer Much appreciated! 😍
Useful, balanced and objective. Thanks.
Glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching
Seems like there is a pretty good range of options for various types of creators

Yeah but... is there any FREE royalty music? Why do people have titles here on youtube that say: "BEST Royalty Free Music Site in 2021" and then they cost money?
Hi, I was wondering how do channels like Smoke Mood get their music, this doesn’t come from any of these sites, looks like directly from the producer or Spotify. Any thoughts on how they get to post this type of music?
They must have some sort of agreement with record companies or individual artists
@@JosephMartin there are a ton of channels and I noticed they give very detailed credit to the producing company as well as include links to each song and artists social media. That must be the agreement. Give credit an post link and you can use the music. I’m going to look into it as they get a massive amount of watch time
Muchas gracias por la ayuda!!! ;)
De nada!
Thanks, it’s very helpful
