    My recommendation is to ALWAYS do your own alignment no matter what the manufacturer says about it being "pre-aligned". It's an expensive piece of equipment for the purpose of a listening experience that is precise and high quality but can also go incredibly wrong if things aren't set up perfectly.
    Always do your own alignments before you start playing records, and re-weight the tone arm afterwards to ensure that the weight settings are still optimal for the cartridge tip.

    I have a doubt. In addition to allowing alignment adjustment, does this ruler also determine the perfect longitudinal distance of the needle in the arm? Thanks.

      @@troyarmatti7167 After I asked the question, I bought the ruler and made the adjustments on my Technics SL-Q03. I came to the conclusion that yes, the tangential adjustments also regulate the distance between the pivot and the needle, which on my turntable and, I believe most, is 9". In other words, it is very important to adjust with the ruler. I would say that it is essential to do so.

    I have heard you should align off the stylus itself instead of the cart. That is REALLY difficult, being as the stylus is at an angle which makes it near impossible to know when you are really looking at it straight on.

      The cantilever is way too short to make any meaningful judgement on a 2 point protractor, anyway. With the overhang being off by several millimeters, one can hardly tell the difference. The best way is to tape a pencil lead to a flat fronted cartridge, to increase visibility of the error. It does require the cantilever to be perfectly straight, though.

    Does it not matter how forward or backward the cartridge is in the headshell? Would that not affect overhang?

    @ Fluance Audio I noticed you provide a Baerwald protractor, but the specifications in your manual seem to indicate an alignment that is closer to Lofgren. Do the cartridges actually come prealigned to Lofgren?

    • @FluanceSpeakers
      @FluanceSpeakers  2 года назад

      Hi Beni, without using the protractor, it would be exceedingly difficult to align the cartridge correctly. That being said, a tracking force scale is great for getting an exact tracking force setting but can setting the tracking force can be done without s specialized scale.

    Can I ask a dumb question? Since the Ortofon cartridge is a perfect rectangle, like its not a random shape or bigger on one side, can't you just make sure the screws on the tone arm are in line since the screw holes in the cartridge are in perfect line? In the video you can see the end result is the screws in line

    • @FluanceSpeakers
      @FluanceSpeakers  Год назад +1

      Not a dumb question at all! The alignment process also handles overhang which determines how far forward on the headshell the cartridge is.

    • @sirvidia

      They work together. If you align to the two points the overhang will be correct via triangulation

      In your print settings, there should be an option for scaling, it should be set to actual size, not a fit to page option.

    Yes but you didn't mention overhang you can still have it aligned and have wrong overhang and it's nice to have the arc drawn on the protractor with the overhang and I would say you should line the counter lever not the body of the garage

      If the overhang is off, it won't align on both points of a two point protractor.

    • @RichardFallstich
      @RichardFallstich 2 года назад +1

      @@ElectricVintage-u1o That's true, but using the protractor is only hit and miss, trial by fire way to set overhang. It's best to use a dedicated overhang gauge first; preferably a gauge supplied by the turntable/headshell manufacturer. My Technics SL1200 (purchased 30 yrs ago) came with a gauge, which can double as an alignment gauge if used appropriately.
      Moreover, if your turntable has an "S-SHAPED" tonearm, setting the overhang correctly obviates the need for the protractor method. See this video for more info. ruclips.net/video/1ecots5MJR4/видео.html

    • @sirvidia
      @sirvidia 6 месяцев назад

      Using the protractor is not hit and miss. It's triangulation and will set the overhang as part of it
