  • Samaná Bay Humpback Whale Tour | Dominican Republic MUST SEE with Kids
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you’re researching a destination to have an epic whale watching experience, then look no further.
My family and I have been living in the Dominican Republic for the past month while our kids have been attending a WorldSchool Hub here. Today's adventure takes us to the beautiful Samana Peninsula in the Dominican Republic.
Did you know that every year between 3000 - 5000 North Atlantic humpback whales migrate from the colder waters near Greenland, Iceland, Canada, and the like to the protected waters of Samana Bay to give birth?
I have always wanted to see a whale up close, and this experience did not disappoint!
We had the BEST stay at Casa Docia hotel; we highly recommend this hotel for anyone making a trip to the area to see the whales. The hotel is walkable, clean, and has beautiful views all around.
Optima Tours did a great job teaching us about the whales, minding the safety protocol, and kept the entire adventure light-hearted and fun. We would definitely book with them again if and when we return to Samana Bay.
After our 30 minute timer was up, we left the pod that we had been observing and headed to a small island in Samana Bay.
Bacardi Island, also known as the uninhabited island of Cayo Levantado, has a history of being a refuge for pirates and later became a coconut plantation before being acquired by Bacardi Limited for its picturesque beaches and lush landscapes.
All things considered, we had an amazing time and would highly recommend this destination to any families traveling with kids.
Don't forget to subscribe, and until next time, keep exploring life outside the box!

I’m glad you and your beautiful family enjoyed Samaná. However must clarify that the locals have never hunted whales there’s no such a thing as a whale hunting culture in my country, and never has been.
Not even the native Tainos before the Europeans arrived, ever hunted them. There is great abundance of fish and shellfish and no need for the dangerous activity.

Interesting! Thank you for correcting my mistake. This was something that one of the guides told us on the tour; I apologize. The whales were beautiful, and Samana is an incredible part of the country!
