- Episode 59 - Ricky chats with Jerry Seinfeld
The 59th episode of Ricky's radio show on Sirius XM.
Ricky Gervais is Deadly Sirius: Ricky with comedian chums and eminent guests discussing the big issues. Entertaining, thought-provoking, and often taboo-crunching chat about ethics, science and art; interspersed with utter bollocks and the greatest songs of all time. - Приколы
Can we have 1 episode where you don't mention people who get offended by jokes please. I love Jerry's reluctance to accept anything
Dose it offend you?
He gets Jerry Seinfeld on and still manages to have the same conversation with himself.
I read the comments while listening to the start of the conversation and thought people were probably exaggerating. But they were not. The bloke really spent more than half of the show ranting aimlessly and poorly, Brent-like.
Like how Jerry just cuts through Ricky’s endless deconstruction of his comedy - not heard any other guests be able to do that
Jerome isn't intimidated by Ricky, everyone else backs down.
It was refreshing for him to tell Ricky to kind of calm down it's not all about dissecting laughter/comedy it's just good to make people laugh and have a natural ease and likeability.
Charlotte B Agreed. Love Ricky, but think he’s so much better just doing comedy rather than trying to explain it
@@rbegon2212 so true I love him too, he should lighten up a bit when talking about his job lol
Yes, that's what annoyed me about TF. It was a great chat with 4 top comedians, but he was so eager to explain what he does and why it becomes preachy and overserious. Also, listen to him so much, I've heard all his talking points. Won't stop. The man is a genius.
Deadly serious #60 Karl Pilkington special? *please?*
He won't... Karl can't be bothered
@@EMD_HOKIO he might be at it drooling again to see if and when it stops or making sausages in his toaster..
@@scufitzuca his transparent toaster
Bill Burr is next
I think that fact that neither Steve or Karl have done it speaks volumes.
Finally a good guest, but I know what this is going to be already. Ricky telling Jerry "basically, what comedy is ..." and Jerry saying "I completely disagree, comedy is ..." and Ricky saying "yeah, that's right".
Spot on lol
Yes, exactly lmao
The dynamic here is so good! Jerry is so funny when he’s just chatting.
Imagine if we all got a pound every time Ricky said "People get offended when they confuse the subject of the joke with the actual target."
Ricky's one of my all-time favourite comedians but these repetitive, scripted answers are so painful to listen to now.
"Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right." Ricky Gervais 2001-2019
@@doneckreddahl 👏👏👏😂
"A joke about the bad thing isn't as bad as the bad thing. It's not necessarily condoning the bad thing; it could be anti the bad thing. It depends on the actual joke."
What’s your desired solution, he changes his view on a regular basis or you listen to the same q&a less?
And he actually belives he invented that "concept"
I usually find these boring, but, this is why I keep trying them. I really liked this one.
1:25 Twitter
3:47 Offence
7:28 Maintaining low status
...you get the drift.
His whole maintaining low status thing is such a load of bollocks. I'm getting fed up with it. It feels like he is always trying to justify himself as a comedian. The fact he never played small clubs. He's never truly bombed. And he's never played to an audience that didn't know him from Adam. He has Jerry Seinfeld on and starts by referencing his own stand up routine from "Humanity". What a fucking bore and narcissist he is.
@@mrnickless You are so spot on! He is so desperate to be seen as a comedian. His best work is animals and politics everything after is shite overly preachy. He got an adoring fanbase that lapped up everything he did and he's had to ride the wave ever since! Never learnt the hard way. In some ways fair play to him but he needs to stop pretending he's learnt comedy and now and for the first time ever he's a real stand up. He simply isn't.
@@josephiliff2277 he's full of shit. His last three stand up shows, in which he claims he's a full on comedian, are terrible. Animals and politics are the only good ones. And he's full of hypocrisy. He talks about John Wayne and Kevin Hart controversy in every podcast, yet steers clear of louis CK, because he's a friend so he keeps quiet about that.
This was good. I'll be looking for more Ricky and Jerry
Check out 'Comedians in cars getting coffee', Ricky is in a few of those. It's on Netflix.
10 minutes in thinking ‘please don’t just dissect your own jokes for the next hour’
TripleDowner!
Gervais is really bad at letting people speak and listening. He also repeats himself a lot.
But I still get something from these and that's why I listen.
Dave C not quite. He used the word thinking it meant twat when a parent of a downsey kid contacted him and said it’s actually a pejorative for downs people so he stopped.
@@DoubleDowner What word? My comments were just general observations, I wasn't referring to anything specific.
@@davec8473 haha maybe I replied to the wrong person or maybe he deleted his comment. Someone said he's a sell out for back tracking on using the word 'mong'
@@DoubleDowner Ricky already knew that mong meant disabled. Everyone in England knows mong is offensive when it relates to a disabled person - or in the case of Susan Boyle, someone that looks disabled. I lost a lot of respect for Ricky over the mong debacle. He tried bullshitting his way out of it and got schooled by Richard herring, amongst others
@@highnoon7097 It's just a word. Imagine thinking other comedians policing eachother's jokes is a good thing lmao. You'd probably piss the bed if you heard a Louie CK set or Patrice O'Neal or Bill Burr. Literally just a word, don't shit yourself
Love this podcast and love you Ricky
Riveting listening. Thoroughly enjoyed that. Thank you. Bless up 👊
Both excellent dances...
Alex Bull sort of fused flashdance with some MC Hammer shit.
Love your work mate! ❤️
such an amazing idea to make me click the video to see the actual title ! thumbed up
Brilliant Robin Williams line from the underated animated film "Robots"
"Welcome to the big city, if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere....and if you cant make it here....Welcome to the club"
If Ricky uploaded a Deadly Sirius podcast, but didn't name the guest, and then that mystery guest just said the word: "Alright?" People would loses their sh*t and it would get more views than any episode yet.
Simon Lawrence Karl?
@@MuckNBrassTV Yep! :-)
As always so entertaining!
Bout time. Finally someone different. Love em both.
I enjoyed this one. They clearly get on and Ricky wasn't too annoying. They seem to learn off each other, which is a good basis for a friendship.
The public speaks for it's self Ricky we want Karl and Steve 😎
Yes yes yes. And bring back rockbusters for good measure.
saw you in Amsterdam, you were brilliant!
Hey Ricky, I'm not even sure if you read the comments on your YT channel. Or even if you'll see my message at all. But I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate that you enjoy yourself so much, because that really rubs off onto other people; I'm sure you already know this though🤣 I guess what I'm trying to say is that you have really helped me get through some tough times mentally, with everything that you have brought into this world, and with your laugh... Everytime I hear your laugh, I start laughing to myself out loud, even when I don't hear what the joke was.
All my love and best regards to you Ricky...

This is one of the sweetest comments I’ve read. What you’ve written is true for me too, and many others. Have a lovely day Zach :)
@@wonderwoman5528 thank you, I appreciate that. You too🤣👍👍
This was embarrassing for Ricky, finally someone calling him out for endlessly deconstructing his own comedy. The older Ricky gets the more like Brent he actually is. At one point he even said "it works"
Ermmm maybe but deconstructed comedy is still funny anyway and so is Brent he's still delivering.
Nice episode. Great!
I love how reluctant Jerry Seinfeld is to participate in Ricky's "talking points".
First mention of Twitter starts at 8:55
Jerry interviewing Ricky. He's got good points... both fun in their own way.
90 minutes of talking about how amazing they both are at comedy.
Hmm, sort of, but not really.
Please get Steve on here!
RG: Do you know what I mean?
JS: Right, right. Yeh.
"I like things tucked in very neatly and very gently"
There is not many things funnier than when Norm Macdonald looks into Adam Eget's eyes, and just says "911"
Just can't help but laugh. Is it classed as a joke ? lol
"Pretend you are watching the TV"
Heckler "pass the remote would you"
"pretend you are watching the TV. WATCHING ME. Ricky Gervais. Watching my new hit show, after life. Nice to see all the positive reviews. Here's a few of the positive reviews I've put them on my twitter for you. Look at my reviews, go on, LOOK AT THEM. JUST TELL ME RICKY YOU ARE THE BEST. JUSTIFY MY EXISTENCE."
Awesome just the two of them together!
Seinfeld and Gervais two of the best in the comedy industry!
56:38 If there was no job to it, you would be Bob at the Psych ward in "What About Bob?"
Are these really not available anywhere else on the pocast universe?
Use a RUclips converter site to convert them to mp3. Admittedly a mild ball ache and not possible if you’re using a mobile device. And very much moves away from the convenient listening idea of a podcast.
@@Mr-zx8fu it's very possible on a mobile mate

Daniel Dawson ah fucked it!!!
I hope Burr comes in with the same "I'm the king" energy. Ricky's good as the underdog sometimes.
I have yet to make it to the end of one of these. Even when people like Bill Burr, Bob Kelly and Jerry are guests, I can't do it.
Great episode. And next up is Bill Burr. Oh boy happy days!
Diane Morgan should be in every episode.
I'd love to get Jerome's thoughts on Diane
thank fuck you played the opening lick at the end. Cheers!
Jerry, ever heard the phrase "m o n k e y b u s I n e s s"?
Nope, never heard that before, that's brilliant
Does Ricky realise he has the same conversation every episode? Offence, trolls, targets of joke, irony, I’m the butt of the joke, I let them in, learnt it from Laurel and Hardy etc etc I only listened for Seinfeld.
please get Ross Noble and Sean Lock on the show!!!
"If a mate said to me 'Where are bugs going?', I'd crack up"
You had a mate like that, Ricky! Remember him? We do.
Didnt know ricky had this podcast
Ricky justifies everything. Jerry accepts things as they are.
this may be because Ricky is a philosopher thus analytical. Has Philo degree at ucl
Yay, and Burr next!
@Matthew Jamison He's criticised the Idiot Abroad concept, and the Globes stuff. He's never said Ricky isn't funny or bad at comedy in principle.
1:16:19 It was "poverty", Jerome ...pover'eee.
Seinfeld and Gervais, im vibrating of excitement
Love you
26:03 Ricky surely referring to Richard Herring. It's here on YT. And Herring has criticised Gervais in the past, so this could well be a subtle revenge putdown.
I've not listened to it yet...but I guess he say's..."IT'S ALL ABOUT CONTEXT"
He talks about the probability of having a paedophile in his audience. yet again. He seems to think people are blaming him for having this fictional paedophile in his audience. Nobody is blaming him! He needs to get over it
@Adam Campbell That's what I meant...Autotekst...only just noticed that after you wrote that..
Just because you are offended by him writing content, doesn't mean you're right
Pls keep it up and invest in this, i could hear you talk for hours
How about putting the name of the guest on the title
kinda slow and already familiar start to this one but really picked up with the philosophical topics later on. it's great when Ricky gets in a flow and ditches the self censure...
I really think I'm missing something when it comes to Jerry Seinfeld. I've watched his stand up but never really laughed and he doesn't really seem to have any real insight on either of his appearances here. Given the amount of respect he has I have to assume he pioneered a lot of what makes stand up great but all that means is that everything he has to offer i've heard a million times before by those who came after him.
“I had a bit that was good because...” x 74
I understand the desire people have for a Gerv/Mechant!/Dilkington reunion, but it's very unlikely for a number of reasons. I'd be happy to share those reasons if I 1) wasn't so lazy and 2) didn't think you should spend 30 seconds working it out by yourselves.
These two nutting things out, putting forward opinions to stoke deeper thought, while it might seem abrasive or arrogant/self agrandising, seems to be really productive. They're talking about comedy and the enigma of what makes them funny. Love when a joke emerges amongst it and they lose it. Brilliant.
So, even Ricky gets to jump kick himself from the high horse, cause Humanity was galloping. Nevertheless, respect and love for eveything you do.
I think i's Ricky's perfi' diktion tha' makes me wan' to stop lisnin' immedia'ly
38mins: "I don't care...as long as it's funny." RG explaining how he feels, getting all indignant about the issues is ALWAYS unfunny. Bring back jokes...or Diane Morgan.
You can intellectualise anything, rationalise and tell yourself what you want to be the truth, (especially when you’re as analytical and smart as Ricky) but the bottom line is, Ricky is a very sensitive guy and he doesn’t like people hating him. If it was water of a duck’s back then he wouldn’t keep having to justify himself and his jokes. Ricky is liked by the masses, but in this age of political correctness, and dumb American trump supporters on twitter, he is bound to get criticism on a bigger scale that a sensitive artistic person can take, and it’s had a detrimental effect on Ricky. He feels under attack and is bursting and desperate to defend himself. It’s not his fault, with the constant repetition of ‘just because you’re offended doesn’t mean you’re right’ etc but it’s how he deals with the criticism he gets.
Next episode: Yngwie Malmsteen
Oh god no! Why not just get Kanye West and tell him the "fish sticks" joke?
The word was POVERTY, Jerry!
Get Taika Waititi on. That Jojo rabbit film looks hilarious. Plus you get to talk about him playing Hittler for comedy!
It would be great if I could see your guest's just sayin
Seinfeld doesn’t get Gervais’s irony and I don’t think he’s being deliberately ironic
Scroll down see how many KP quotes there are.
Why does it take you so long to air the episodes. Bill Burr was on weeks ago .. and it’s not like you need to edit anything
Absolutely love Ricky and Jerry but this was slightly disappointing. I wanted an hour and half of their 'comedians in cars' discussions but got the same comedy deconstruction we've heard a million times before.
For the record, I tried, but only lasted 11mins
Ps Where's Diane?
11 minutes you say, no wonder Diane left.

If you love comedy and want to hear about the 'science of comedy' you'll love this podcast... If you don't... Maybe don't listen to two comedians on a podcast
@Nick I know Ricky repeats himself but there's a lot of new stuff in here. Again, if you don't like the narcissist why listen to a podcast with him in it... On his channel?
Remember when he did a podcast with Steve and Karl and the 'science of comedy' never came up?
@@HawkOfGP Karl, the subject of that podcast, (funny as he is) isn't a Comedian. If you watch comedians in cars getting coffee that's what happens most episodes.
Similar comedy style. Great listening to both opinions, woman who window shop can agree the stores are full of crap that only a cat can bash around the floor. Born with a Y front.
Jerry says, that's funny a lot but doesn't laugh. Is it really funny Jerry, really?
I quite like that about him for some reason
I love all the clowns in the comments critisizing one of the most genius comedians off all time 😂
Jerry isn't so friendly about Ricky on the Netflix is a joke podcast 🤨
But then again he criticises Chapelle for his stand up too. What an ego!
Should have been better, this.
Why bother with commas😂
Pete Zahutt The sentence wouldn't have made sentence without that comma.

Ricky only talks about himself or topics with him as the subject, or swings everything to his point of view, its gets really tedious really quickly. Ego has won that battle.
