Over/Under Self Defense Spear Gun: Better than commercial models?

    ------------------------------------
In the last video, we looked at under water spear guns and tested if they work as makeshift home defense weapons.
Turns out we were wrong in some of our findings - we stand corrected!
In any case, one of the biggest disadvantage of spear guns is that they have one shot only. This seems inadequate for the purpose - at least two shots are called for !
So we designed AND built one of the few all-metal weapons we ever made... a short (50cm) double shot spear gun that is no doubts effective both under AND above water.
    See for yourself!
    A "The Slingshot Channel" production.

What I Love about Joerg's channel is he is NOT like youtubers my age that are so used to the internet they have removed the human element from their videos. This guy whispers little secrets to the camera, he asks his viewers to take guesses at what will happen, he keeps it interesting! (I love over pressurizing things too!) You are my new favorite TV to watch when I eat or have some downtime! Way better than cable! Bravo Joerg keep it up. You ARE a TV personality!

If I had to weaponize a speargun, I'd combine two pneumatics side-by-side for a double-barreled speargun (with duct tape, or something more
elegant), and would see how they penetrate with broadheads! Great video, Joerg! Interesting and potentially even life-saving!

Wow, that air powered Spear Gun is impressive. Such a heavy bolt, FPE consistent with high powered crossbows. I got an idea for improving the Spear gun. Use a lighter grain Crossbow bolt instead and equip some iron sights or a scope on the gun. Not a bad improvised air gun shooting arrows/bolts and may cost a great deal less than the Crossman/Benjamin version that was recently released. The same could be done to the rubber version as well.

  • @crockagater929

Joerg, i don't know if you know this, or if someone else mentioned it, but I think it is interesting, since you are a zombie fan. The air powered speargun was used by John Leguizamo in the Romero movie, Land of the dead! His looks like it has wood on it though. He uses it to shoot zombies in the head. So if you were wondering, it works for zombies. But he doesn't show you it's features.

+JoergSprave I worked in a Dive shop for many years that was/is a Cressi dealer and I sold tons of those guns. I cant tell you how many people tried to return them after the piston broke. We shipped many back as "defective" but when we spoke to Cressi they indicated that, at least for the models and sizes that we were selling at the time, firing dry would eventually break the piston and customers did admit to having done it. One would think that by over pressurizing it would break it faster but my guess is that its just a matter of time before it happens. I am curious to know if it holds up though. Thank you for the many hours of entertainment Joerg we are all big fans here!

Great work on your homemade speargun looks amazing. done several myself but never turnout that good looking.
However the design is unsafe (the trigger) at the moment if the metal hook gets damages after several times of use or the rubber holding the trigger breaks it will fly by itself. Probably even to much tension from the rubber loading the spear will make it fly.
Most trigger designs use 2 parts because the part holding the spear should be in lock position by the other part that way it can never fly accidentally and very little tension is needed for the "locking" mechanism since it will never be affected by the tension from the front.

love your tenacity toward engineering the odd and different Mr. Jorge!
Any thoughts on a future build for the automatic version of a spear gun sir?

The over under with the airgun as a backup is a solid idea i think
Just an idea: adding a grip to the over-under would help with accuracy; example adding a tube connecting to the ring of the first trigger all the way along the...barrel...i guess, and connected to the front of the gun.
This would make reloading even more slow but it has two shots to mitigate the need for an immediate reload.
I think i jist cound my z-pocalypse scilent survivor weapons xD

You killed that poor Ikea Ivar shelf board. Now you have to bring it in and cook it. ;) Nice video and review.

Very nice Joerg! Of course, now you've really got to take the rubber fired spear gun to the next level and make a gatling version of it or something else equally crazy!

The square bolts would make it easier to remove by putting a small correctilly sized open end wrench on the shaft and twisting it
