I just want to say that I love your channel. My mom is Indonesian, so this reminds me of her style of cooking. I live in Texas now, so when I crave southeast Asian cuisine I need to make it. Thank you, Auntie Liz. And Merry Christmas. ❤
If you're still in Singapore, I haven't been there for years, but every time I'd go there, I'd get off the plane and head straight to Lau Pa Sat for Satay. I don't know if it's the same since COVID, but they used to close down the street at nights, and have outdoor vendors cooking chicken, beef and prawn satay over wood fired grills. I think my record was eating at least sixty of them (plus two jugs of Tiger Beer). It's impossible to replicate at home (at least, not without a charcoal grill), luckily, there are a few places in Sydney that do decent satay, char kway teow, buk kuh teh, and ha mee.
Yes it’s still rocking. Went last year at opening and was in awe of how quick the road shuts down and traders setup the flaming grills. Good atmosphere for sure!
Merry Christmas Auntie Liz, may the festive season bring you and yours joy and health. We love your content and we look forward to your future ventures. Stay safe and well. When we lived in Papua New Guinea we preferred shopping at the wet market, mainly because we felt that it was important to support the local producers instead of the commercial supermarkets.
Not sure if it’s the camera or the video colour, but it looks very different from the chilli crab I usually have at the restaurants. But, like they say, it’s all in the taste that matters!
Singapore chilli crab is decadently delicious, such a rich and expensive dish these days. I haven't had it in years, 😢 but still remember how much I enjoyed it.
Wow, thats brings back memory. I always had my Crab cooked with chilli everytime i had em.....Nice color on the chilli crab....Red and green. Welldone 😊
I lived in Singapore when I was 13 (1976). Chili crab is my absolute favorite food. My second favorite food is the chicken curry we would get down in Little India. Some of my best memories are going down to 'The Car Park' on Orchard Rd. and going around from hawker to hawker and picking out what we were going to eat.
Heck yeah!!!! Greetings and Merry Christmas from the Bayside of Brisbane, Australia, where I can catch fresh mud crabs literally walking distance from here! (Just don't tell your dinner guests that the best bait for crab traps is a can of dog food with a hole punched in it 😂 )
Merry Christmas from Melbourne, Au. I have a bro in Singapore, he's got all this awesome food there, both Chilli and Black Pepper Crab are beyond! So what's he doing for Xmas dinner.. an Aussie BBQ. What!!!! 😔
Hmm the way I would do it was to fry garlic onions and put in the crab to cook then throw in the chili. End with some starch and stir in beaten eggs. It’s also easy to use prima mix which is actually quite accurate for chili crab
I have had chilli mud crab many times and it is always different from cook to cook. I would definitely try this one given the chance. That sauce colour is incredible
I really like stir fried noodles. Chilli garlic noodles are my favourite type of noodles. Are there good local Singaporean stir fried noodles I need to try?
Dear Auntie Liz, I'm off to Singapore again in late February and, despite all my visits, I have never had chilli crab. This deficiency in my culinary experience needs to be remedied. So, where should I go for an authentic local chilli crab? Somewhere out on the East Coast maybe?
You might wanna try the Chili crabs from jumbo seafood at East Coast, they are among the best if not the very best in Singapore, from a locally born and bred Singaporean here. :)
I’m always gonna prefer heading to Keng Eng Kee Seafood @ Alexandra Village for chilli crab. Love the experience just best to call ahead and reserve a seat and crab as it gets busy. Also altho not chilli crab, I had an amazing white (Sarawak) pepper crab at JB Ah Meng amongst other great dishes, bit more casual setting but really enjoyed it.
Sure or you can just use crab claws. If your town has Asian or Chinese grocery store, try to get mantou bun(you can Google or find YT videos and fried it a little bit). Good to dip in the sauce. Ppl here always order it together.
I think the procedure is the crab need to coated some flour deep fried few minutes, then cook with the sauce, and the sauce should be done seasoning and cooked before putting the crab, and lastly put the egg. Garnish and serve. And the sauce should be lesser than the video, this call chlli braise crab not chilli crab. Just personal opinion, because I'm working FnB in Singapore too.
My friend, please don't confuse it with natto unless you want to destroy your dish. It's chinese fermented soy beans, it's very salty and tastes completely different from natto. On the jar labels it usually reads "brewed salted soya beans" or "preserved soya beans". It can come in paste form or the original beany form.
@@AuntieLiz was worried about this person confusing taojio with natto because the thought of putting natto onto chilli crab would make me call the police hahahaha... Welcome back to Singapore Aunty Liz btw! Happy Holidays!
@@AuntieLiz Pink Blossoms brewery tap in Ubi av 3 is a must. Also Locality Craft Beers in Hexacube on Changi Rd and little island brewing at Changi village.

Thank you for sharing. I wonder what ingredients you have access to, do they have many imports or good weather to grow some of the items locally?
Tried chilli crab in Singapore 20 years ago. Loved it. Outdoors in plastic garden chairs. One of the best meals I’ve ever had.

Could you please do Singaporean Hokkien Mee ? Not the KL black type or the Penang Hokkien Mee (which is more like prawn noods)

Just take note when ordering the crabs . Prices are based on weight and it season. And locals mostly used Sri Lankan crab

Thanks Aunty Liz. I think a splurge at Keng Eng Kee looks to be a good option. Not far from where I'm staying as well.
So nice to see Aunty without the big sweater. Chili crab needs chili jam.
No chili jam haiya
Hokkien prawn mee please, Chef

very different Auntie - the fermented soybeans is unusual, right - looks like natto.

Correct! Taucu is quite different from natto. Closest alternative is miso if cant find but it usually comes in a jar.
@@AuntieLiz was worried about this person confusing taojio with natto because the thought of putting natto onto chilli crab would make me call the police hahahaha... Welcome back to Singapore Aunty Liz btw! Happy Holidays!
