    What's an amazing software
    This is my scenario
    1. I took old ghost image from Dell T3500 from 2016
    2. Convert this image to VMDK for use then i thought how can i convert back to physical machine (at this point i don't have any clue on Macrium)
    3. Follow your instruction and convert back VM (took from Dell T3500) to Laptop Dell Latitude.
    All work perfectly

      Is it required to put the old system on virtual machine first and create a backup from that virtual machine? then restore to physical machine? I have the old system, but I want to see if I can back it up directly from old system and restore directly to another new modern day system.

    This helps a LOT!! I HATE having to install windows AND programs 1 by 1 PER PC!! With this method yes, I will still have to go to each PC 1 at a time but I don't need to stay at the computer installing programs! And also if sombody BREAKS the computer I can re image it with the VM I made long ago

    Over years as I upgraded computers, I have saved the Hard drives before throwing out the Computer. I have discs with Windows 95, XP etc with files old arcade games etc. Is there any way to turn those into Virtual Machines?

      Yea you just use your virtual box, hyper-v variety. But I believe you need the bootcd/boot drive of that system when you made a back up.

    how about Linux system, is it possible using macrium?

    • @real2w10
      @real2w10 4 года назад +2

      Yes it is. Make a Windows VM and install Macrium. If you have UEFI, install Windows 8 or 10. If you have Legacy/CSM, install Windows 7, 8, or 10. Now connect your USB to your VM. Create Rescue Media in the VM. Boot the USB on your Linux machine. You will boot into Windows. Click the backup tab, connect your hard drive, and do everything shown on here (4:16). Now go to your other computer, and do everything shown here (6:40). Now, if you are trying to clone a Linux VM onto physical hardware, set up a Windows 7/8/10 and Linux dualboot. Install Macrium on Windows, and do everything shown on here (4:16) but don't backup your Windows drive. Now go to your other computer, and do everything shown here (6:40).

  • @douglascha509

    Didn't work for me on windows xp. I believe this would only work with newer operating systems such as Windows 10 which fixes all the boot up issues. I myself were trying to do this with an old windows xp system with IDE drive (yes I know damn old!) to move to a new modern day system, but it failed (stuck on that "go to last known configuration" screen (if anyone knows a repair script or whatever to change the bootup "priority" please let me know). I'm going to try with macrium reflect redeploy (full version) which supposedly is supposed to work with restoring to dissimilar hardware. Do you think restoring an old backup via virtual machine first would fix this issue by backing that up and restoring it? Thanks again.

      Do both of your computers support boot from USB? Are they machines from 1999-2004? If so, follow these steps:
      1. Install Macrium Reflect on a computer with at least Windows XP or Vista.
      2. Click on Other Tasks > "Create Rescue Media"
      3. Click Advanced.
      4. Click on "Options" *You must select x86, otherwise it will NOT boot*
      5. Click on "Choose Base WIM" *You must select Windows PE 3.1, as 4.0 and up likely* *won't work on your 98 machines, because they are based on Windows 8.0+, and 8.0+* *requires PAE and SSX2 support, which your 98 PC likely doesn't have*
      *Your computers must support Windows 7, or this will not work*
      6. Click "OK" > "Build". If you can't create a USB, make an ISO and burn it in Rufus with UEFI-CSM.
      7. Boot from the USB on your 98 machine. Connect an external hard drive and follow these steps from 4:16.
      8. Now go to your other machine and boot the USB. Connect the same external hard drive to the computer you wish to clone the hard disk on your 98 machine to and follow these steps from 6:40. Now reboot and Windows should boot.

      Do what he does but reverse it. Install Macrium on your host. Backup your hard drive and store the backup on an external hard drive. Make an ISO Rescue Media and boot it on the VM. Then, connect your external hard drive and restore your host on your VM with Macrium. Then reboot.

    • @jaykstah
      @jaykstah 6 лет назад

      If you want to do it from one computer to another computer, its the same thing. Just treat the first computer as he treats the VM. Create an image of the first computer, put it onto an external hard driver or flash drive, make a flash drive for Macrium Reflect recovery media, put both of them in the second computer, boot into Macrium Reflect, and use the image you made on the first computer.
      It's all of the exact same steps, just creating an image of the real computer instead of a VM.

    I followed your steps and everything worked well, but I got the 7B BLUE SCREEN upon startup. Changing the IDE/ATAPI modes did not work for me. This advice that I found on the web from Jonie Evangelista did work -
    "I know this is an old Q, but no one can deny that there are still a lot of WinXP users out there.
    it just happens that I was able to fix a Chinese version of this :)
    use Hiren's Boot CD, boot with Windows Emulator, 1st on the list
    once you're in, Start > Registry Tools > fix hard disk controller
    it is safe to play with the 3 choices, just map the target anyway - c:\Windows
    restart...you should get your WinXp running again. "

    What the point here folks - If the OS in the VM can't connect to internet - then you're dead in the water. You probably don't have this OS, that's why you went the VM route to start with. Case in point, Win98SE won't work in VM on 64 bit machine - so what makes you think it's going to work on same same machine already running Windows 7 Professional (lets say).?. There may be an exception where we have an inverse transformation in the PC manifold but that's more of an anomaly. JMHO.
