  • Why buy a new table if you can restore your old picnic table and make it shine again?
In this video, I explain the steps to restore an old picnic table that needed to be revamped and repurposed for my glamping site. I go through the process in which you will learn how to sand a table properly as you will need to follow the grains of the wood. Here, I used Thompsons water seal product to obtain a golden cedar stain on the picnic table. For any refinishing project, the most important part is prepping for paint and stain. When prepping for paint and stain, one must remove any and all of the old paint/stain by sanding the wood surface to allow the wood to absorb the new stain. In this case, sanding the table beforehand will give you the best result in restoring your picnic table. The Thompsons water seal stain that I used was very economical and easy to apply. The golden wood stain looks really good on my refinished picnic table. There's nothing more pleasant than seeing the finished product of a restored old picnic table done with your own hands and to your liking.

Great job on all the info and well orchestrated video! Only thing I may have done differently is removing the top boards and worked on them individually and reattach. I'm just lazy and would only want to use the orbital :) Keeping up the great service!

What if you wanted to paint a different color

@@smed4319 The prepping process would be the same, the only thing that would change is the paint or stain color of your liking.

I am about to replace some fascia board. It's in a corner where water gathers, and that's how it rotted in the first place. BUT, I am about to sell the house.
I have some Thompsons in the garage, and I am thinking about sealing the new wood for the next owner. BUT...like I said, I am about to sell the house. It is entirely going to depend upon how long the Thompsons has to sit before I can put the paint over it and move on to the next job.
Your video did not broach the question I have, so I'll just ask to see if you know the answer: What do you know about painting over Thompsons? Should I even do it? If so, how long should I let it dry before I paint over it? If you don't know, that's cool. But if you have any insight, it would be much appreciated.

This specific stain is a stain and seal combination which eliminated an additional step.

Your windows are too big and shiny , the birds get confused and fly into them thinking it's open land.
Try cutting out shapes/silhouettes of birds to tape to your window to help save the lives of the wildlife in your gorgeous backyard
