At 6:30 the Pendolino indeed seems to brake unnecessarily late. But nothing in the video shows that ATP was malfunctioning, the Pendolino has really powerful brakes and ATP's "brake curve" relflects that. The "dust" from the brakes is just that... dust from the disc brake pads, not smoke.
OK, Thanks Topi! I was just thinking that how near was the situation when the emergency brakes would have been applied? Should the speed have been much higher or was it on the "edge"?
...and some more info... :) This location is a bit annoying since the automatic train routing almost always clears that Kerava's "arrival" signal too late even when the route is clear. There is a balise ("ATP-beacon") after Korso that gives the first "knowledge" of that signal's aspect, and almost every time that signal is still red, and ATP shows that to the driver. Normally the signal changes to green right after that and the ATP announcement clears at the next balise at the end of the straight track between Korso and Savio. The drivers know this, and so they don't brake since the signal will (well, usually) clear in time before the ATP's forced braking. But, very rarely, the signal stays red, and the ATP announcement stays on. If the driver doesn't immediately notice this exceptional situation (there isn't any beeps or other sounds, just ATP display going or not going blank), the next thing he sees is the double yellow at Savio station and/or the ATP starting to beep (but not yet brake). After that a strong braking is needed without any delay to prevent the ATP to kick in. So, this situation you captured on the video is quite rare, but when it happens, this is very likely place. :)
