Thanks, I really appreciate that! I remember the only fishing show we had when I was a kid and I'd be so stoked when it would come on. Trying to re-create that.
Awesome, awesome. Nothing like a good days on the water with some friends catching some fish and having a great time . Memories to cherish forever. This is the beauty of Hawaii and an experience that very few get to see or have. That side of the island is normally rough, you guys caught a good day.
Mark great stuff, diving kona side for the next two weeks and getting pumped for ono. Just found your stuff and really diggin it. Living in colorado i jump from Elk to spearing throughout the year.
@@strikemissions trying to keep it stocked when can!🤙 keep those vids coming brah! You guys slayed some Onos man! Much Respect bruddahs, Aloha and stay safe!🤙
Hey Mark, I don't know anything about bluewater but whats up with pushing the shaft back through at 8:38 ? were you trying to line it so you didn't have to keep that spear spinning around you. I'm guessing you could do that since it was such a good holding shot? Let me know if I'm off base. Thanks.
Good observation. That's because the spear flopper was on the far side of the fish, meaning that I never got to see how well it was holding. Sometimes when that's the case and the fish has been pulling hard I'm worried that it ripped a little and the flopper is barely hanging in there. If I push the shaft all the way through it's guaranteed to hold. Tried it there, but wasn't able to get it all the way through.
I'm using a 120cm Aimrite single roller. Love it. I was only using that gun with the tag line because I lost the shaft on my bigger gun with a breakaway rig earlier in the day.
Find a good low air volume mask that fits your face. Masks are like hiking boots, you can buy the "best" one on the market, but if it doesn't fit your body, it won't work, so try to go to a shop and try them on first if you can. The mask is where you want to spend a little extra money for something of higher quality. Starting off with plastic free dive (long blade) fins is fine. You can always upgrade later after you get used to using long blades. Snorkel is personal preference. I also suggest getting a qualityspeargun because if you end up not using it much and want to sell it, they retain value. It depends on the fish you'd be hunting in your area, but I'd suggest starting with a gun that's in the 100cm-120cm range. There's spearfishing forums where you can try to find a dive buddy in your area if you don't know any. Having someone to dive with and help point you in the right direction is a huge help.
I'm not totally sure, but this is why I like it. If you are wearing a "farmer john" bottom you have two layers of wetsuit around your torso which keeps you warmer where you need it and also gives extra padding for loading your gun. If you just have a "pant" bottom you can easily pull the 'ol willy out to take a pee thus not having to pickle yourself in a urine filled wetsuit all day. Hope this helps.
I hope you will continue to post spearfishing videos. While I'm excited to get out surfing again when they open our beaches, lately I've focused more of my energy on re-rigging and modifying the spearguns I've made to get them ready for the new season. Watching great action like this gets me even more motivated.
Thank you! There DEFINITELY will be more spearfishing. If you want a cool vid to check out in regards to speargun rigging, look up Coatesman’s Spearfishing channel and check out the “Break testing speargun shooting lines” and “Splicing single braid Dyneema” eps. 🤙🏼
Wow, that was exciting, I haven't seen fishing like that since I lived on the Big Island on Hilo side. Do You Guys have any idea do Wahoo cruise the reefs? I was snorkeling in Maui and these big somewhat skinny fish went by Me so fast I don't know what they were. Thanks.
Wahoo do come shallow sometimes. I've seen them in 30' water before. Often people mistake the Aha (Hawaiian Needle Fish) for Wahoo as they can get pretty big.
@@strikemissions Thanks for getting back to Me. I know what needle fish are, these were just like wahoo and why I never thought about it before, they were probably wahoo because they were fast and streamlined. This has been bugging Me since 2013, again thanks for replying.
Usually do. What Justin was doing was setting up a speed stringer where as soon as he three prongs one he puts it directly on his belt stringer. That way you can shoot up to four in a single dive. Spearing those fish is more like picking fruit sometimes. They are delicious.
No doubt you guys are all good spear fishermen, but don't be taking fish from the big island to fulfill "orders" on Ohau. If you want to catch some fish for dinner, great, but don't be raping the waters here because you got nothing left on oahu. I live and fish the area you were at. Big island fish for big island people, that's sustainable.
It was for a buddy from Hilo that has to live on Oahu. I don’t go slamming reef for commercial or taking too much. I totally see where you’re coming from on that though and agree. 🤙🏼
That is a trip you will remember forever. Mahalo for sharing it.
Woke up at dawn here in South Africa, full of excitement to watch this video. I have been waiting years for you to start a weekly vlog. Thank you

Take what you need not what you can.
Totally agree. This was split up between 4 families and one birthday party.
What a day!
At 2:11- what is that bird chirping noise?? I cannot understand what tactic this is? Super curious....
Dang, I cannot beleive how long they can hold their breath for. Looks fun!
epic content man, congrats
🤙🏼
AWESOME VIDEO MY FRIEND
Good stuff bro!
Thanks for the pointers on the water filming. Your stuff always looks amazing!
Gonna have to get you down for an outer islands special op in the Cook Islands. Wahoo, doggies, pigs, all need to be harvested!
There’s so fat Wahoo down there! I did a trip years ago and we ran into a bunch. I was not prepared....
I think I’m gonna have to go through all your vids tonight, just saw you had a channel on insta and the content is insane!👌🏼
Amazing!!!!!! Never seen a wahoo in my life((( but heard it is one of the tastiest fish.. right???
It’s really good. Mahi Mahi is really popular, but in my opinion Wahoo is better and lasts WAY longer in the freezer or fridge.
The Hawaiian name for wahoo is "ono", which means sweet or delicious for obvious reasons. Yes... they are VERY tasty.
Action!!
That's a workout boys be sleeping for dayz
Nice !looks super fun. What speargun do you use? why you use reel line and float line?
I'm using a 120cm Aimrite single roller. Love it. I was only using that gun with the tag line because I lost the shaft on my bigger gun with a breakaway rig earlier in the day.
I've never gone spearfishing before. What is the best way to start?

Hey mark are you chumming with opelu?
Just using Opelu as a pitch bait 🤙🏼
They need to weld some side pockets and like an abdomen angled pocket on those suits...healey/firstlite/hecs collab!
Was that Ryan behind the cam?
Hey Mark, why do dive suits have duck tails?...Wouldn't a surf wetsuit be more comfortable?...Always wondered about that?...
I'm not totally sure, but this is why I like it. Aren’t you suppoed to kill the fish once you get it out of the water? The Kole looked alive still
