    Seems like the Yam is easier to squeeze blues out of, the Furch more open, probably suited to Celtic. Have you tried it without the thumbpick?

    • @JasonMckellMusic
      @JasonMckellMusic  Год назад

      Man why didn’t I think to do that in the video?.. yes Furch being a SNAG (sensitive new age guitar) is nice with bare fingers. It does get noisey easily, squeaks if you don’t connect straight that kind of thing. Guild is the same.

    It'll be a different matter once the Furch has truly opened up as much as the Yamaha already has. The other difference in tone is due to the Furch being cedar topped and marginally larger bodied. Which guitar is more comfortable to play for longer?

    • @JasonMckellMusic
      @JasonMckellMusic  Год назад +1

      Yep thats a couple of really good points, The Furch is really green but I have read that cedar sounds pretty open immediately and doesn't change so much. Not sure on that. I think they are both amazing guitars.
      The Guitar most comfortable to play longest is the lil Guild.
      Furch neck is great so that would be next it's very soft feeling for a slightly longer scale but the body is noticeably larger not as comfortable. (splitting hairs here)
      The Yamaha is fine as well but I find the neck shape a little smaller feeling compared to the others (bugger all) and probably more shape than actual size, I tend to fatigue a little more.. without the side by side I would never notice and any of them would be ideal..

    Nice demo. I am a fan of both companies but have not owned a Furch yet. There is a local dealer and I have gone and played them and they are awesome in both sound and construction. I have been a 12 string player forever, they make a 9 string that I am seriously lusting for. Local US prices start about $1600 and go into custom shop level prices for the top line models.
    I enjoyed both of the guitars you played. Every acoustic has its own voice, no two identical really.
    You mentioned a 70's Takamine sound. I own a '77 Takamine F400 12 string and it is my favorite acoustic, I play out with it regularly and get a lot of comments on how great it sounds, many confusing it with a Martin 12 due to it's awesome tone and it's similar style and headstock script. Neck is narrower than most 12's (narrower than a D12-28 Martin) and is super easy to play with just awesome sound. It has had a complete overhaul with neck reset, refret and new bridge and saddle, plus brace and truss rod repairs. Electric 12 string level action now. When I ound it in a pawn shop for $100 it was unplayable, but I knew what it was and was capable of doing. Well worth the restoration effort.
    I have thought about doing a video on it. It is not common to see them in playable condition today.
    Anyone want to see one?

    • @JasonMckellMusic
      @JasonMckellMusic  9 месяцев назад +1

      I wanna see it👍.. I love a good pawn shop find rebuild success story
      Aaah man good on you for restoring it.. I have an old Stella Sovereign here which plays pretty good and sounds great but REALLY needs to come apart and be put back together. properly.
      We did our best but the whole body is bowed now.. I would love to get it restored some day.
      That 9 string has me curious I’ll have to go check it out now.
      Also I think that’s a really good point with ‘no two acoustics being identical’ good to keep in mind with these reviews.. they only represent these particular guitars **individual results may vary.. something like that.
      Cheers for the sub.. I’ll check out your channel when I’m in the computer later.. now you better get that guitar 12 string story up and running

      Depends on what criterea matters most to you. As a real rough guide The Furch has a little more bark to its voice and the Yamaha has ever so slightly narrower string spacing especially as it heads up the neck. They're both great guitars though.

  • @Lalairu
    @Lalairu 10 месяцев назад +3

    Both guitars sound good. The Yamaha sounds warmer, but the Furch has more highs and has like... more room?. It is really a matter of preferences and frequencies... sometimes you need a little bit more of brightness. Also, if you bought the Furch recently it might need some time to open up and settle. I bought a Sigma 00015m a year ago and the improvement is abismal (considering the price of course, just solid top but very nice guitar nevertheless...), and I have discovered that Martin strings go pretty nicely with this model in particular. Sorry if I made mistakes, English isn't my mother language. Have you tried the Yamaha L6? Cheers!

    • @JasonMckellMusic
      @JasonMckellMusic  10 месяцев назад

      Hi no I haven't tried the L6 but I'm sure its a very nice guitar. I have a friend with a Sigma think it's an OM but all solid. Fantastic guitar for the money and took quite a while to settle down, it's his favourite guitar.
      Yes the Furch needs some miles. The Yamaha has opened up beautifully over the time I've had it. I think even six moths of regular playing and the Furch will be richer for sure. Yes it has a little projection in the room over the Yamaha but not the warmth. Both very nice though.
      and hey your English is perfect.. so no problem at all. Thanks

      YAMAHA has a lineup of FG and LL acoustic guitars, but I think it's easy to understand if you think of the FG as a mahogany Gibson style guitar, and the LL as a rosewood Martin style guitar with a long scale and beautiful high tones. Of course, strictly speaking, the sound quality is different from Gibson and Martin.🙇thanks from🇯🇵

    • @ej2796
      @ej2796 25 дней назад

      Yeah agree. I have a LL16 and was looking for something a bit "dryer" sounding for my next. Smaller bodied too. I was pretty much settled on a FS5, but after simmering on it and playing a shit-ton of guitars, now I have the new Martin D16E-2 in the running with the FS5...only because it has a tone that sounds already "mixed". It's definitely not what I thought I wanted...but it sounds like it has that extra low end already cut out of it and the mids-low mids boosted a hair. Exactly what you'd expect to have to do to a guitar after recording and sitting it in a mix anyways.
      So now I'm pretty torn, because I've owned Martin's and they're temperamental, even fragile when it comes to whether changes. The only one I still have is a solid top X series dred, exactly BECAUSE I can drag it around anywhere and beat it up and it stays rock solid. I don't have to fiddle with it at all lol.

    Still prefer the fuller tone of the Yammie by FAR. the Furch, to me, has that modern, thinner boring tone that's creeping in to more guitars lately. Jason, loving your no bull very conversational style; am coming down to Adelaide (from Alice Springs) for Womadelaide and was thinking of getting an F 5 as I dropped my 40 yr old FG 335 directly on it's end from almost 2 Metres which lifted the top and loosened some braces. That is a guitar that sits around the house to rehearse and have fun with but after doing my best to glue it , it's lost it's reliability so I'm in the market and hearing the Furch means there's another horse in the race. The cedar and slightly bigger body shape is a good reason for difference; also the Yammy strings sound like they've more use on them - is that so? I prefer the Furch in the video slightly as it's big sounding yet articulate and it'll mellow enough in time ; I also like wider string spacing and the cedar sound . (I've a cedar Takamine)

    Interesting comparison, but these are very two different guitars by specs alone. The Yamaha is sitka-topped short scale OM, the Furch a cedar-topped long scale G body...deeper and larger. The Yamaha sounds like a 30-year-old guitar... Warm and resonant.... It just sounds better to me. Not as much chime... But more open sounding. For chime I like to go all out.... Play my rosewood backed dread

      Yeah I'm glad that warmth comes through in the recording. Thats exactly what like about the Yamaha it sounds really well loved for a fairly recently made guitar.. very musical.

      I also own an FS5. The new FG &LLseries features all solid wood and ARE technology on the top, which reproduces the sound of a guitar that has been played for decades, and successfully brings out the warmth of the mahogany sound. I think it's a similar technique to Martin's VTS top. 🙇thanks from🇯🇵

    Preferred the Yamaha. I've looked at Furchs, and I wanted to like them, but just like most Taylors and Martins, they don't do it for me. They both sound quite different, but the Furch sounds "beige", no character, like most Taylors and Martins I've tried. Furch needs to be played in, it may open up. I've actually never played a bad Yamaha, to be honest! I have a Yamaha classical and two basses, all three are top drawer. Don't think it'll make a difference on stage. Your Yamaha has gotten glossy because of wear, wherever it's rubbed you're polishing it, lol! Satin finishes are just lighter gloss finishes. You can get rid of the gloss by roughing it up with 400 or 600 grit sandpaper, but you may not like the results.

      Yeah it's funny, Matons are the same with me. Some of the best players in the world love them and yet I haven't played one I really liked that much, no idea why really.
      The Furch is a fantastic player and sounds huge in the room but I don't think it does anything the Yamaha already doesn't do for me.
      Yeah I have to agree about Yamaha's I haven't played a bad one, can't get along with the narrow string spacing is really the only reason I've let them alone.
      As soon as I saw the looks of the FS5 I wanted it. Then I read the specs and... 1 3/4 nut!!! are you kidding me...take my money!.. No Brainer
      I was thinking blend prep and a grey scourer but to be honest it's looking aged and cool and apart from maybe some nickel tuners again some day I'll just leave it be and enjoy it👌

      @@JasonMckellMusic the vintage serie is really....impressive. i've got mine since 8 month and the sound so getting warm day after day. One of my uncles got a old guild from westerly (80s, his guitar is a church...), and he tried this guitare last weekend. He was so surprise, something like : WTF, what is this guitar ? That sound so "old", so old school guitar"
      And the neck is so confortable....I can play 3 hours and never been tired...

    The yamaha is a sweeter sound. The furch has a more moody country sound., loud and emotional. Dude your not helping with my GAS. Both is the answer. What happened to the recording king.

    • @JasonMckellMusic
      @JasonMckellMusic  Год назад +1

      Both was the answer unfortunately/ fortunately.. they are both excellent guitars for sure.. man the lil Recording doesn't get a look in it's been sitting here doing NOTHING!.. it's a shame it came up great for such a budget guitar.. think it's just the narrow string spacing mostly why I don't pick it up.. and too many very cool guitars.. note to self get the Recording King back out!
