This is an interesting video...........I just re-packaged the second NOCO Genius 1 that I bought..........I ran scans on both my Volvo and Mercedes with my ODB II scanner; both showed good batteries and good charging systems. (both batteries under 2 years old) Connected the Genius 1 to both cars and let each charge for 96 hours......still red pulsing light on both. Had turned off anything that might be running in the background and causing parasitic drain. Red pulsing light never went away with either. Know another guy with a Merc who has no problems with the Genius 1, so not sure why it will not work for me. Pain in the neck to have to order both online and then return both to the stores. They advertise them for 12V car batteries, so why don't they work? Their support claimed that the only model that would work is the Genius 5, you know, the one that costs 4 or 5 times as much. Will look for another brand.
It is a tender, use it on stored vehicles, it's perfect for that. Just unplug the battery from the car.
Yes it does maintain the battery while not in use, But if you disconnect the battery from the car, you will loose all the memory settings on all the settings for the radio, seats and everything else.

Great video, never thought about parasitic draw it's a good a idea to keep the battery at nearly full charge now that I've seen this video.
Pilar Bojorquez, Thanks for the comment, Yes, depleted power on battery is the cause of damaged battery, It's best to always keep it charged.

This is incorrect. This charger is perfect for maintaining a stored car. I have a 2022 M240i and this exact "charger". It's more of a maintainer, not a fantastic charger. My car was tucked away for winter for about a week. I connected the Genius 1 and it stated under 75% charge for over 2 days. After 2 days it went to slowly blinking green which means it's now maintaining the battery, just like it should. It will definitely charge a healthy, dead battery...it will take a long time though. Sometimes a very slow charge is good for a stubborn dead battery.
Short version: this is a perfect maintainer for a stored car. For the purpose of just charging your car up after the battery has died, there are better products.
I also own a couple Genius 5s and they're great products as well. But the 1 is perfect as a dedicated maintainer.
Kevin Culp, Maybe for a long term storage of car this charger is OK, But for my car I needed a Genius 2, I can't wait 75% for two days charging my car (or maybe more because of my parasitic draw). I want it charged for less than a day, which my Genius 2 can provide.
I agree with you that charging a completely dead battery with Genius 1 is not recommended, Higher amperage charger like Genius 5 or 10 would be good for a completely dead battery (also because it has repair mode).

@@edcardiy just a heads up, once it's charged, it will definitely keep up with the parasitic draw. My car has a lot of active systems and it keeps my battery at 100% no problem. 1amp chargers are always going to be best for maintaining and not necessarily charging.

Most car batteries are more than this, does it affect the charge in any way?
I tried to get this thing to charge both of my cars and let it charge for 96 hours each time and nothing. My batteries are both under 2 years old and my OBD II scanner says that both are in good shape along with the charging systems. Surprised this thing works for you.

Yes it's ok for maintaining the battery of you're RAV4, But only for indoor charging, If you want to do it outdoor, Get the NOCO Genius 2. Hope this helps you.

According to my research, The 2016 BMW X3 uses AGM battery, This AGM battery it's lighter, more reliable and won't leak if damaged. It's charges faster and less maintenance.
