This was the greatest exhibition of a jab I’ve ever saw. He literally beat him with very few power punches.

First off, I'm a big Tito fan. I've always favored the fighters with natural punching power and guys with that one punch knockout ability. But Winky Wright is probably one of the most underrated and overlooked fighters in boxing history because of his defense oriented style. He didn't do anything sensational to draw the attention of the casual boxing fan. He was soft spoken, disciplined, and stayed out of the limelight. But what made Winky spectacular was his mastery of the basics. Alot of top ranked fighters avoided Winky throughout most of his career because of his style and ability to make you look boring or average. And I don't know how long Winky's forearms were but it seemed when he boxed up, everything from his navel to his forehead was protected. Always lead with the jab, sharp counterpunching, and patience was the recipe for the disaster for most of the flashy, battle hungry, crowd pleasers in the game. He really deserved more respect if you look at how avoided he was, even more so than the intimidating power punchers of his era. And this was one of his most masterful showings against the legendary Trinidad. Hats off to Winky, much respect.

Winky's style was a brilliant mix of defense and offense. He was slick and defensive, yet he was also a pressure fighter. He'd walk you down and beat you up and still rarely get hit clean in return with that iron-clad guard. It's obvious why he was avoided by so many.

And he throws it off rhythm too!
      Mixing up feints as well!
When he quickly covers up, sometimes he does that to get a reaction, and when you expose yourself to the feint,
      WHACK!

Man, 2005 was SUCH a GREAT year for boxing!!
Winky finally getting some credit - and what a way to do it - against Tito.
    Ricky Hatton dethroning Kostya Tszyu
Cotto showing some real mettle in a slugfest against Torres.
Mayweather Jr stepping up in weight masterfully showing what he is against Gatti (RIP!) and Mitchell
    Morales v Pacquaio war
And on that undercard - Jorge Arce v Hussein Hussein
Probably the greatest fight of the decade in Coralles v Castillo
The shock of B-Hop losing after SO many middleweight defences
This was a great year - slap bang in the middle of a great decade for boxing!!

People are always forgetting how good Wright was in his prime. His basic fundamentals we're great and he didn't need anything else. Wright probably has the best high guard in boxing history and he keeps his punches short and up the middle.. its smart boxing, you rarely saw Winky throwing a looping shot or even a sort inside hook. Very smart and disciplined fighter. This was easily his career defining fight, unfortunately it came agaist one my all time favorite fighters in Tito Trinidad.
