I played their studio version of this song to a music promoter who said it sounded highly engineered. Many artists, even those with no talent, can be made to sound quite good in a recording studio. I like this song. So, I wanted to hear a live version of it. I can now easily say that their live version is very close to their studio version.

NatalyPerry if you watch the video, the ‘overdrive’ you’re talking about is actually the synth/keyboard. The guitar is played mostly clean with some echo/reverb and in some parts he adds slight distortion which isn’t hard to accomplish, there aren’t really any special pedals for that you just tweak your amp settings to get that sound. To copy the synth on the keyboard isn’t hard to mimic.

@@TheSun_89 Yes i know the overdrive it the keyboard :D I ´ve been watching the video ... I was just talking about the guitar parts .. i am just looking for that "slight distortion" sound to be kind of that "indie" sound :D But thanks anyway :) I will work on that sound

@@godiegogo_8865 the guy on the keyboards does literally everything in the band, this whole performance is being mixed on that keyboard, and he's mixing his own voice into like 4 different types of backup vocal in realtime. dude is obviously an audio engineering boss.

The only reason the vocalist is holding a guitar is because he's trying not to look stupid with vocal pedals.
For what it's worth, it does work. But also, put the guitar down, the keyboard is playing all of those notes.
And can the drummer actually play, or does that need to come from the keyboard too?

Actually he does use the guitar a couple times in the song. This song in particular is heavy on the keyboard compared to their other songs.
