  • This has been one of the most requested videos I've seen this season--you ask, I deliver. Keep in mind I wanted to get this first part to you all, so you could order your vacuum gauges. I haven't seen many automotive stores carry these vacuum gauges. Stay tuned! There will be a part 2!
    The vacuum gauge I'm using for this series is:

    Thanks for this video. I'm helping my friend rebuild a 2 barrel version of this carb. I don't think the kit we have has the correct idle needle gaskets (there are no "cork" gaskets in the kit). But this was extremely helpful!

    The clogged hose nipple on side is over flow from the mechanical fuel pump. In a marine application fuel pump with have a small nipple on it 1/4” tube up to nipple on carb. If diaphragm in fuel pump rupture this puts fuel down carb vs in the bilge. Main diff between automotive fuel pump and marine

    Is it possible that I am not able to adjust my choke? Mine seems to be fixed in place. I have a marine carburetor that looks almost identical to yours. It is a Holley 2300 marine carburetor. Your vids are a life saver.

    Perfect timing on the video Michael. I just overhauled the engine (4.3 GL) using your awesome videos and had starting issues after the engine installation. Had narrowed it down carb issues (fuel delivery - check, ignition -check). Rebuilt it and installed, but having issues keeping the engine running. Fires up after pumping throttle, but dies after that fuel is burned off. I’m guessing fuel mixture at this point. Will work through with these baseline settings and adjust from there. I always sucked at carburetor tuning beyond the curb idle. Always get hung up on the mixture screws. Great video and much appreciated. Any tips on adjusting the mixture screws beyond baseline settings?

      Have you checked the fuel pressure? I bet you have a faulty fuel pump--just a thought. Make sure your fuel filter isn't backwards or clogged. Also there is a anti-siphon valve that needs to be checked on the fuel tank.

    I'm interested in seeing where you connect the vacuum gauge. I can't find a vacuum line off of my carb. After watching your videos I have my boat running much better but would like to fine tune the idle circuit. Hopefully part 2 video also touches on adjusting the choke. My engine doesn't like to idle when cold.

      Thanks for watching. Rotate the chock to allow for a much richer mixture. Also make sure you have a good ignition system--cap and rotor, plugs, wires, plugs. I will have a part 3 where I show some other places to find vacuum ports.

    There is a small clear hose that attaches to the side of my flame arrestor. Can I use that to connect the vacuum gauge?

  • @briansmith-hn6ho
    @briansmith-hn6ho Год назад

    The hose going down to the fuel pump is there to let you know your fuel pump diaphragm is leaking. If
    there is gas in the clear hose, you need to change your fuel pump.

    If @neverenough is so knowledgeable why he put some videos on the internet. I found yours on rebuilding a holley marine carburetor more informative n illustrated than any on the internet. If the average person had to go to a boat shop for every little thing (as expensive as they are) they couldn't own a boat.
    I had to take my boat to a marine shop not long ago n the owner asked me who'd been working on the boat. When i said me he said wow u do a better job than most boat repair shops.

  • @NeverEnoughPyro40

    I can see your knowledge on boat engines is limited, that vacume port on top of the carburetor does not return fuel back to the fuel pump! It is there just in case the diaphragm in the fuel pump goes bad! On cars if your diaphragm goes bad they would drip fuel onto the ground, you don't want fuel leaking into your bilge so it returns it to the carburetor! Think about it how can you return fuel to the fuel pump if that Port has vacuum! That is a perfect example on why the average person should not work on Marine engines!

      I concur, that is a line that sends fuel into the carb to burn it up instead of letting it empty into the bilge, a fire hazard.
