      Just order a few makeup brushes.
      Sure, AO are probably made better. But they're essentially makeup brushes.

    • @Siege181
      @Siege181 4 года назад +2

      To be honest mate, I started using the AO dampening pad with makeup brushes a few months ago. The dampening pad helps to keep moisture at just the right consistency. I then indulged myself to a set of the series D recently and haven’t looked back! You get so much more control and consistency with the AO brushes, they are DEFINITELY worth the investment! Just make sure you follow the cleaning instructions and they will last far longer than any makeup brush. Plus it means no more pretending the Primark makeup brushes are for my wife.... :D

    • @S2uBuGaming

      @@KrisTomich No probably about it, the materials, construction and shape are all better suited to model painting than a make up brush, That's why they took so long to develop

      @greigpil9835 4 года назад +1

      @@Siege181 I fully intend to pick up the small D and dampening pad for my marines, and get other sizes as needed when I get some vehicles.

    • @Siege181
      @Siege181 4 года назад +2

      Greig Pil to be honest I only use the AO cleaner for my series D’s as you leave the cleaner in overnight then “flick” it out gently next morning. If you are investing in any of the AO series Ds I’d recommend the AO cleaner just to make sure you keep it in optimum condition! Oh and I would SERIOUSLY advise getting at least the small texture pallet, really helps with the control of the paint of the brushes!

      Ice yellow is a bit trickier, a pastel yellow mixed with skull white, or a bone (screaming skull) with a little white and a little flash gits is probably close

    That result is hard to argue with for 90minutes work, looks really impressive, for the weapons my first instinct would be to properly rust them all over, I'd probably just run a pencil round the edges of the blade for the metallic effect and coat the rest with a rust finish for guaranteed tetanus, but having seen the flesh, I don't know if that would mesh well with the rest of the model

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  4 года назад

Drybrushing hasn´t really been too much involved with my painting, but watching you do it... Mesmerising. Would love to have the chance to try your brushes sooner or later, maybe learn them together with my fiancee, who I´ve managed to talk into playing 40k with me once we get her atleast a combat patrol worth of Slaanesh Daemons painted. So yeah, definetly more tutorials for daemons. Would love her to get more into painting as layering and traditional edge highlights have put her off of painting, but learning to do it your way might just be the answer for some great hobbytime as a couple in the future! Cheers for the great work, keep at it!

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  2 года назад

      Thanks so much! You'll be surprised dude, drybrushing is all about the process, if you do the right things in the right order the brush control isn't nearly as important as you would think.
      Practise makes perfect, check out our beginners guide to drybrushing and flawless blend videos for further watching.
      Let us know in another comment if you have any questions, the dampening pad is magic, and texture palette lets you test off-model, reducing the chance of mistakes.

    Love the video! What do you do to try to take steps to prevent caking with that many layers of dry brushing?

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  4 года назад

      Use your dampening pad, remove paint on the texture pallet, and also take paint from the 'side' of lines on your pallet, you're never dipping it into them from above, also regular use of the pad between and during stages! Welcome aboard dude, happy to answer any questions at all!

    Does anyone know what that strange pot of what looks like grey chapstick is and what it is for? It was like the only thing without link in the description. Also, is that a unique painting pad/pallet?

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  4 года назад

      The grey pot is our dampening pad (used for introducing moisture before, during, and after adding paint to my drybrush). This and the palette you can find here: store.artis-opus.com/

    90 minutes to paint that is very good. I am continually impressed by your drybrushing. Would love to see you drybrush a kataphron breacher. Or at least see how much you would dry brush it.

  • @conradmynett7037
    @conradmynett7037 4 года назад +1

    I understand you are focusing on the drybrushing, but how do you find this sort of approach goes with airbush filters for a bit of smoothing and colour change?

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  4 года назад +1

      They cross over really well dude, TBH if I wasn't trying to unlock stuff for people without airbrushes I'd probably airbrush the first 3 steps of this for speed.
      The real plus of this is it is *always* texture based, so you don't end up with light recesses, which of course you can fix with a wash if you like - the holy trinity for efficiency and wuality is combining the 3 :)

    Like most people I heard about Artist Opus brushes when they arrived, I was unaware of the YT channel until Kirioth directed me here.
    What an amazing paintjob. I'm a big proponent of drybrushing (my hands shake so edge highlighting can be problematic) so it see it used so proficiently, and to produce such a good looking result warms my heart.
    I'm off to watch part 2 now and who knows how many more vidoes.

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  4 года назад +1

      Hey dude, I hope you enjoyed Part 2!
      I''m a huge proponent for process over precision, with the right knowledge you can do so much, so fast, so I think this should be perfect for you, apart from dotting his beady-little-eyes there's not a precise bit here, and he turned out super.
      Happy hobbying, dude :)
