Excellent method to hide the chip in the cab roof in the pug. You've done better than the manufacturers, who sometimes seem to fill up the cab with devices surrounded by unprototypical lumps of plastic nowadays. They could with a bit of thought hide the electronics as you have done, leaving more room for properly modelled interior detail.
Thanks Jenny. Been wanting to hardwire my class 221 voyager. But been out off cause I'm thinking the 8 pin chips. Good to know the 4 pins will do the job.
Jennifer to cover your wire connections you can buy a product called shrinkwrap , much nicer finish and strong, and maybe use double sided tape for chip, great work you really get things done .
thanks I'll have a go. is that weathering on the 51231 roof or is it dust?
Hi Jenny, can you recommend a DCC decoder for a Hornby R2328 class 2721 0-6-0PT. It will have to be hard wired and probably a mini decoder. Thanks.
Does this work for new Bachmann locos too ideally the Thomas range
Have you any idea where to connect a stay alive to Hornby 4 and 6 pin decoders?
Hi. Just looking at converting my stuff so this is a useful video. Can you clarify PIN numbers? I guess 4-pins is just for loco power? For larger chips is it 2 pins per function?
I used a Esu micro decoder. A little more expensive but it is better to program!
Hi Jenny, can I ask a question, hopefully not too daft, can any DCC chip be installed in any loco? I have some older lima and Tri-ang non DCC compliant models and was wondering about chipping these. Many thanks.
Thank you for information on dcc installation
Best way to remember...RED AND BLACK to the track ORANGE AND GREY the other way kind regards Rob
Cheers for the vid, I'll have to convert mine.
Very useful. Thanks
A great help Jen thanks 👍
Not clear is/are the difference in features between 4- and 8-wire decoders. What would the 4 wires control if present in a decoder? Lights and sound?
Hi Jen, sorry to be a pain but it's a class "oh eight" not a class eight.
Hi Jenny, do you have any thoughts on the Lais decoders that are available for around £10?
Jenny - when did you get your DCC system and did you do a video on it. Thanks
hi jenny on a hornby j94 the moter is mounted contacts top and bottom how can i work out left and right or does it not matter not trick question thanks
Thanks Jenny. Spot on!
Shrink sleeping is not expensive, you can get 5mtrs for about 3 or4 quid
Jenny, how did you confirm that the motor current was supported by the decoder chip?
Tom Lawton just trying it and having had no problems with nearly two dozen hard wires with these chips.
HI jenny a good rhyme reminder is Red and Black to track, Orange and Grey to the Motor Way. I noticed your using sellotape or insulation tape Not a good idea as after a while it goes all sticky inside your loco., better to use Capson Tape available on Ebay . Hope this helps. Regards Alan......
Thanks Jenny, Very helpful..................John
Have two 08s I've been putting off now I have allot not confidence in getting them done. :)
Please use electrical tape or shrink tube and double sided tape
Cellotape will either get very sticky or dry out over time and in each case will make a horrible mess. Heatshrink is much better and neater. Lidl have a box of heatshrink at the moment for a couple of quid or its available from varying sources on line.
Thanks for the 'heads up' about Lidl having heat shrink tubing. I bought a box of assorted ones today.
Fehya Olan You’re welcome.
Hi Jenny. Greetings from the USA. The Hornby link for the decoder is www.hornby.com/uk-en/4-pin-decoder.html
There is a good review at the bottom of the page that talks about adjusting CV10's Back EMF setting if your locomotive staggers down the track. Unfortunately, Hornby doesn't describe the features of this Decoder, but your wiring set-up indicates it is only a motor control board. What are the type and electrical characteristics of the capacitor used for this locomotive?
One final thought. We have a product here called "Liquid Electrical Tape". I use it for sealing solder junctions in place of heat-shrink tubing. One tin lasts a very long time.
Nice! Thanks.
Cellotape in an enclosed space with the heat from the motor and the chip does not bode well. Please use proper black insulation tape or better still do what everyone suggests and get some heat shrink tubing.
try ebay you can get a 6 pin chip for a tenner
Try zimo chips
