Every time somebody says about how its good story telling if aerith dies needs to take the shipping stuff out and be content with saying "We should have the end be depressing and have cloud on benzos sleeping in an abandoned church again like the original timeline" woa so impressed with this kind of ending
Regarding all the timelines, including the one where Aerith and Cloud being in a coma, I'm still on the route that Aerith will live in the end with all worlds merging and Cloud possibly having to chose which world survives (7 seconds till the end) makes me think there are 7 worlds. The whole bringing Zack back, the "Cloud, save her" quote Zack made, the Marlene scene where she says Zack has to cure Cloud so he can save Aerith, theres no point to creating any of these moments if its all meaningless and has the same OG outcome. This is not the same story and I believe things will shock a lot of people in a good way. The theme of life and death was executed perfectly in the OG, its been completed already and is still there, its not going away. Now with all these timelines, it would make sense to see another path of this classic story. However, whichever path they take and however they do it, I'm sure we will all admire the work and effort they would have put into creating what they did.
7 senses......the story is kinda leaning towards budhism and its teachings, lots of pararels, some dont look unintentional. dont forget, in the original cloud says,i think i understand, i can meet her at the promised land. and literally ALL games media, has cloud searching for aerith
I don't know, Nojima's stories often involve layers of reality, memory, and consciousness. I guess the idea of Aerith's deletion could symbolize the acceptance of mortality and the beauty found in impermanence, contrasting with Sephiroth's fear and resistance of no longer existing. A simple "deletion" might be too straightforward for Nojima's style though. He doesn't shy away from bittersweet or ambiguous endings, however, he also tends to leave room for hope and multiple interpretations. Perhaps 'deletion' is too simple a concept when discussing the intricate tapestry of life, death, and the connections between souls. His references to Jung's collective unconscious and Buddhism's Yogachara suggest a narrative conclusion that delves into the interconnectedness of all things and the concept of continuity beyond physical existence, rather than a straightforward, final death of a character. In the realm of stories, nothing is ever truly gone - it merely transforms.
true, i suppose the word deletion isn't accurate. Aerith's description is most fitting. A drop of water returning to the ocean and being there, but no longer seperated from the whole. In part how the social memory complex concept works.
I just don't see them going that way. She's already consciously surrendered her life and accepted her fate at the city of the ancients. Her voluntarily opting for perma-death is just more of the same, and from a meta/production/narrative perspective it would IMO be cringe. "No, no, this time she'll REALLY be dead!", c'mon.....This? Again? I don't need a happy "she's alive" ending, but an ending which isn't utterly depressing might be nice.
why would Aerith happily returning to the planet after potentially decades or centuries of promised land. So that the rest of humanity can have the same+salvation. Why would that be utterly depressing? It would be the MOST positive of the death options. So if your saying you dont need an alive option. Then explain a single way they could do it that isn't just 'alive' lol. Because truly there wouldn't be a more optimistic way to kill Aerith than this
No, I would say the most positive death option (which should also be referred to as the least worst option) is the OG ending. Aerith is dead. Sephiroth is dead. Jenova is dead. Meteor is stopped. Humanity (as confirmed by the devs) survived, and all brought about by Aerith's sacrifice at the city of the ancients, summoning holy and ultimately directing the lifestream. That's a great ending. Victory/Salvation through sacrifice. Sadly, everything after OG has only added increasing levels of convolution and watered that ending down. If we're going down the route of having to have Aerith sacrifice herself, again, simply to reach the same conclusion that we originally did at the end of OG, then we'd have been as well just saying that everything post-OG is now non-canon and had the remake trilogy literally be just that, a remake of the OG that ignores everything that came after it.
@@lysith3aPS5 As far as I know Aerith wasn’t aware she was going to die so she didn’t exactly make a sacrifice. Giving her more agency in her death inherent makes the story very different, for better or worse.
@@Kitth3n for OG I don't think we know that conclusively either way. For Rebirth she 100% knows, hence she's already made that sacrifice, and repeating it in Part 3 adds little that wouldn't be achieved by simply following the FF7 ending now.
Before anyone makes the claim. Aerith is and has always been one of my absolute favourite characters! From her death in OG to her shaman inspiration bringing Aya/nature into the foundations of my inner peace. She's been an inspiration for decades to me. How her arc ends is something I care a lot about and I think something as profound as voluntary annihilation would be so damn profound. The beauty of this character has always been in the struggle of acceptance. For her, for Cloud+gang and us the player. Pina Coladas down in costa del sol just doesn't do that justice imo. Thoughts!?
New fan of FF7 here! Didn't play the OG when it first came out, but I did play FFIX and FFX back when they came out, and FFX remains my all-time favorite. My opinion on where FF7's story should go, including Aerith's fate, differs from yours, and I wonder if it's because I was introduced to the franchise through the Remake project. Aerith became my favorite character in Remake, easily. I don't need to list all of her great qualities, as you already know, I'm sure. Modern graphics and voice acting have also certainly improved her portrayal. Thing is--Aerith's death seemed permanent in the original, but I don't get that vibe from the ReTrilogy. There are so many clues that hint to her actually surviving this time around. Examples: 1) Her saying in Remake that the future can be changed and it's not set in stone. 2) During Red's date, the camera zooms in on Cloud saying: 'Whats the point of fate, if it can't be changed?" 3) One of the devs, (I can't remember which one, sorry) saying that Aerith is fighting to change her fate. 4) Zack yelling to Cloud to 'save Aerith' after fighting Sephiroth at the edge of creation. 5) Marlene telling Zack that Cloud can save Aerith once Cloud is no longer sick. There may be more clues, but those are just off the top of my head. I don't just want Aerith to survive merely because I'm a Clerith shipper. I fully support people choosing whoever they want as Cloud's love interest. Rebirth has shown us through the affinity system that if you want Cloud to choose Aerith, he can, or if you want him to choose Tifa, he can. There's no right or wrong answer when it comes to that, as Briana White, Aerith's voice actress, has said in an interview. I actually think the romance will have little impact/influence on the ending of the third game. Meaning there will be one true ending, and the romance between Cloud and Tifa or Aerith will be included in an optional resolution scene like how it was done in Remake. This way, both Clotis and Cleriths can be happy and SE's pockets won't be affected. I believe Aerith deserves to survive because she has gone through so much pain and suffering. Her burden as a Cetra is truly tragic and unfair. I just would love to see her thrive in life with her friends by her side. Something also has to change plot wise so we don't end with the same "bad ending" as OG/Advent Children where 500 years into the future, the planet wipes out humanity because it deems it a threat. I wanted to share my perspective as a new fan because I'm not attached to Aerith dying at all. I don't see it as necessary anymore as we've seen her controlling the lifestream at the ToA so we know she's capable of doing that while alive. I wanted to mention that, as a huge fan of FFX, the party in X didnt just roll over and accept Yuna's fate. They fought against it and vowed to find a way to change it so she could survive. Since 7 takes a lot of influence from X, that's what I want to see happen in 7 as well. The party needs to say, 'F this fate crap. We're saving our girl no matter what!" I think this fandom needs to accept and respect that there are fans, both old and new, with different opinions, interpretations, and theories. We have yet to see what will happen in Part 3, but let's not attack or belittle each other for not having a hive mindset. Thanks for reading, and thanks Pez for all of your interesting theories!
So...Christ's voluntary annihilation (as opposed to mere physical death) would mean the end of the form based universe, as it's a projection of God's (Christ is God's body) imagination, so God dying is the end of the universe they're not seperate, you'd have to reduce Aerith to just like a normal woman for that to make sense. But she's the keeper of holy, she's not a normal person, she's Christ, Sephiroth is Lucifer, Cloud is you, the hero, the mortal personality. Aerith is the immortal body of imagination. It's all incredibly deep lol not sure I can explain it here.
Consider her final limit break, the "great gospel" of Christ, I mean, of Aerith. It's animation shows her summoning the angels to earth, restores all health, restores all mana, cures all ailments, grants immortality/immunity to damage. (It should also revive the dead, but doesn't, sad face) Making sense? Aeriths easily the most powerful character in final fantasy lore lol=), she is literally God.
Damn, I really had tears in my eyes at the end of the video. We agree on everything. An ending like that would be my dream ending. Especially with the reconciliation of Sephiroth. There's enough hate in the real world already, so why shouldn't we all be able to find peace in fantasy? And it would just make Aerith's character so strong and impactful. All characters would benefit from such an ending in my eyes, I can't see any downside to it. But for that to happen, the trilogy has to break away from Advent Children (by that I mean AC can't come after it chronologically). And as I understand some interviews, that's not the developers' plan.
She's always been a self-sacrificial character. The OG game basically ran a, "die for the greater good" narrative, but then just repeating that conclusion after all this time and effort would be seriously annoying after branching into multiple universes now with Dementor looking freaks who don't let anyone have free will because of a supposedly "superior" timeline; a system that negates countless people sacrificing their lives and basic rights for the greater good, or "destiny". The story of FFX did a great job at exposing why this kind of system is evil, unprincipled and fruitless. If the end moral is that death is inevitable and final then they could portray that at some point after teaching Aerith that her life has value beyond being a martyr for others. To "save the world or save the girl", the correct answer is ALWAYS to save the girl.
Can I just say that this remake project so far has made playing FFVII possible for me mentally to accept playing it. The remake not the original, I tried playing the OG about six years ago I think and got my ass handed to me in the first boss, and I couldn’t get out of the reactor because I got confused😂 that’s on me, but I have not played the OG so I have nothing to base my theories or expectations on-that being said I don’t have many except for the few things. I know that have been revealed in these two games so far that I knew for a fact were part of the OG. The giant scorpion boss at the beginning was the boss in the OG that kicked my ass so obviously, I know that. I’m also aware that a lot of things have been out of order and or in different ways things happen differently therefore the outcome is different And I get that, seems that people think after reading my comments that I don’t understand it’s not the same!! But I do, I get it apparently Midgar and Kalm, and apparently other places in rebirth were never as lively in the OG, but you know what.. this is 2024 and games that are remade are upgraded and usually dialed up to 11 which these were and I am here for it One of my more recent theory crafts, and probably maybe unpopular -assuming the theories are correct that Zack was In the true timeline at the end of rebirth, Cloud dies at the end of part three in order to “save Sephiroth” Personally, I think that Tifa would benefit from dating real man like Zack so by the end, I think it should be Clerith in the lifestream and ZaTi on earth❤
Aerith is already completely dead physically, so what more can you do to her? Her "existence" is either a lifestream version yet to be absorbed or a trick played from cloud's mind.
I’ve given up trying to figure out where the story could go. As Aerith is my favorite character in the series and how they expanded her character in the Remake series, I have hopes in the timeline theory that Cloud created a new timeline where he saved Aerith, but how he saved her but at the same time failed is hard to make sense out of. It’s also hard not to argue that the exploration of the sense of loss for the party would be interesting compared to the original where Aerith died, they mourned momentarily and she was essentially forgotten until they had to go back to the City of the Ancients. We will have to see how it’s executed but taking away an iconic scene to give us a Walking Dead “who did Neegan kill” scenario may end up being a turn off. Especially since we’re going to be waiting 3 to 4 years as opposed to 6 months to find out what happened to Aerith.
I just double checked, and it was Hironobu Sakaguchi's mother who died, but when they were developing Final Fantasy III. He said he had stuck with the theme "life" for quite a while, which ended up being one of the major themes of Final Fantasy VII.
This is very much unrelated and probably too personal, but sometimes when I'm watching your videos Pez, I'm reminded of a feeling when I was a child and wondering what life and death means for the first time, even when these games aren't part of my childhood. It's a very strong and nice feeling and I thought you should know ^^ so thank you
Oh my God 21:16 hearing you talk about how he test away parts of his soul until only his determination and ruthlessness was there just makes me think of lightning😂😂😂😂😂😂 enlightening returns. She is the savior because she’s cast off her weaker humanity. I’m so obsessed with the 13 trilogy being connected right now 🤪
This is one way to ruin the Remake trilogy. If they are bullshitting me with giving me hope that Aerith might survive this time while turning to a monstrosity like erasing one of the most beloved characters they have ever created, I'm permanently done with Square Enix. But honestly, I don't think this will be the case. They won't end the FFVII saga on such a disgusting note.
And do you see how thinking its a 'digusting note' means your ideologically and thematically a black whisper? Not an insult btw lol, just thats its interestingly true. Aerith herself has spoken to the human condition of being SOO emotionally resistant to death and why they struggle with it so negatively. Natural you feel that way, but Aerith has directly spoken to your feelings and that she herself does not share them
@@FinalFantasyPeasant Respectfully, I don't think this comparison is accurate. The black whispers belong to Sephiroth and his non acceptance of death is selfish in nature. He has absolutely no issues to kill everyone else or seeing other people die as long as he is spared from this fate, so in that sense he sets himself above everyone else. Aerith on the other hand is the opposite of that. She is ready to give her own life for the higher good and have everyone she loves living on. But does that mean that this is what she wants? Of course not. Aerith doesn't want to die, she is full of passion for life and is trying to enjoy every moment to the fullest despite of all the traume she had to endure. The way I perceive her speech is that she indeed accepts death as a part of life and is ready to fulfill her duty as a Cetra if needed but that she still has a grain of hope that "the future" (her fate) can be changed, "even if it has been written" Her hope is also my hope. Why would the writers give us the setup for a possible better outcome for this lovely creature only to completely crush it in the end with having Aerith being terminated for good? Some people might see this as a highly emotional event, but I'm sure to many others like me, this ending would be absolutely horrifying.
@@BlackMetal-uv6qm The black whispers NOW belong to Seph. But there were black whispers before his control. Black whisper are not just Sephiroth. They are traumatised souls that also see returning to the planet as 'absolutely horrifying', the same way your describing it. The reason to setup a better outcome is more powerful when the better outcome is for the collective and not just one person. Again, only Aerith has ever been allowed an afterlife. She could have had centuries with Zack in the promised land at this point. Aerith wanting more is against her character and hypocrisy around the topic of eternity. But yes, absolutely calling returning to planet horrifying is black whisper thinking and Aerith is happy/ready to return to the planet after her mission is fulfilled. Her remaining alive is just nice feeling fanservice imo
@@BlackMetal-uv6qmThe point of FF7 is loss > finding meaning > self discovery > fighting on for newly found meaning. Aerith is vital for this component of this story. For Cloud, the party and the planet but also the player. Yes its sad but thats the whole point. If we start to keep characters alive based on how much we love them then there will never be a high stakes story ever again and they would lose all connection to real life. So yeah I’m sure its sad for you/us/shippers but its still going to happen. If its a real assimilation with the Lifestream at the end of Part 3 or a heartfelt goodbye but with minor spirit visitations through the long lives of the party members remains to be seen. But dead is dead man. This whole video opens up with the disclaimer that people cant just let their feelings dictate the story.
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PPL IN THE BACK! She's died in OG, never came back except as "ghost aerith" in AC where she got to watch all of her teammates live on from afar without her. As soon as the poor thing gets out from under the steel plate and gets a small taste of what life is she dies. Why do we need her to keep sacrificing? Breaks my heart to see people want her to stay dead just so she can "be with zack" and "Tifa won't be alone". We did that already the first time around and we all saw how miserable everyone was in AC. I could give a shit about shipping, I just want sweet little Aerith to have a happy fulfilled life for once where she doesn't have to keep sacrificing herself for everyone else
@@koosh88215 if the writers should decide to keep her dead, then I hope that they would at least bring her soul back along with some light spirits to fight Sephiroth and the whispers
There's no finality of death in the Lifestream though... Zack was dead, then they let you play his part in Rebirth. Aerith was dead, then they'll let you play her part in Re______. Lifestream doesn't work like real life out here (or does it? Who knows?). It's Final Fantasy. We shouldn't apply our real life logic to a game.
Do people still argue about the canonicalness of fictional relationships these days? Dam bro , i could care less if cloud and tifa or aerith or whoever , i just want to play the game . Besides, Advent children already showed us cloud and tifa srill are just friends . Just move on . Just give me omnislash is all i care
I'm already mad because as a 17 yo in 97, I though this game is hardcore realistic. With all those strange things being like that because we saw them through Clouds faulty perspective. It was very artistic. With remake going ham on stupid fate stuff we see Tifa punch a ghost that can ressurect a dead person and represents fate.... The only fitting end to it is Cloud dying and ending the memories of Sephiroth which keep his conciousness from dissolving. Aerith and Zack rejoining Cloud while all of them delete 'themselves'.
One of the few FF7 streamers willing to contend with the Jungian and Meta vibes of it all. Keep it up. Whether the predictions become reality matters not in the long run but it is the creativity that were are engaging in is the true gift of the goddess and that which the developers are deliberately prioritizing as this project's goal. We are the life in the stream. And FF7 is an earnest depiction of what it is to be a human consciousness. FF7 ReTri desires to prophesize the next messiah archetype in this new era of the Persona following that of the Ego. I can only hope whoever or whatever this messiah is, they will come to embody Aerith versus Sephiroth. Sephiroth! DUNdunDUNdun
great video Pez! i can't wait for the first media concerning the final part.. I do hope that they progress more to a game that feels less like a Ubisoft tower-based map.. it took to much of the wonder out of the -otherwise- goooorgeous map. and whoever was in charge of the music and design of the world should get 5 raises over... looking forward to your next vid! ;)
I feel like they'll reveal yes she died at the "all is revealed" scene in the Northern Crater, and that's when we'll hear those recorded lines as Cloud is forced to acknowledge it really happened. Cloud being blown appart would hit all the harder if it doubles as the moment we're allowed to start grieving properly for Aerith. This is probably going to be a pretty early point in the 3rd game, end of chapter 2 at most. That way, we have a whole game to build Cloud and the party back up.
She will be in part3, she will be like at the end of part2... only cloud will see her.. is she a part of cloud delusion/psychosis? is she will be a Sephiroth projection to manipulate cloud? is she so strong and part of the lifestream now that she can help cloud from the lifestream? Will she be alive in another part of the lifestream multivemultiverse? Only time will tell..
Memory keeping these people alive is a HUGE part of the overarching narrative of the compilation. (Seph is more alive the more cloud focuses on remembering him. The whole dmw system in crisis core is based on the memory of his interactions and gives him his power etc, etc) it cant make sense for her to dissapear entirely (she WILL be remembered). and seph still existing and having a purpose would be counter to your own idea! However it seems like you are on the right track to some degree maybe a slight deviation from these ideas are closer to the answer... also NEVER go FULL SOYJACK, or maybe youll be the one who is deleted from history and memory LMAO
Final fantasy games have a way of pulling you in and feeling the emotions the characters are going through and damn it if they don't get me tearing up every time. Idk if I can handle a permanent end to Aerith and I could see this being a very good way of making her death essential for their victory and explain why she has already accepted her fate and maybe it hasn't happened yet because cloud isn't ready to do what needs to be done
I believe they will include a part where cloud will find the promised land and be able to meet her again and ask Aerith to “wake up” like that one scene from rebirth
well ive only just discovered that there's two promised lands. The Cetra's and Jenova's. Could be very interesting which promised land Cloud witnesses and how the two are handled
My take, without any bigger message or deep thinking, is that she died on the altar, Cloud just blocked it, then at some point he (and we) will finally accept it, for her to return later in the story - somehow. Square can go anywhere the please, so I'm not even trying to predict story's direction.
I fully believe Cloud became permanently scarred after being experimented on...to the point that we don't know who the real one is. There is a permanent rift between us and the supposed "reality" of the timeline of that world. Red XIII said 'Destiny' began when Aerith dropped her flower on Loveless Avenue...We can't answer definitevly the question of whether she can be deleted because we don't know exactly how much she knows in the beginning and how much she can influence. How alive and "real" was she before...What did the world even look like from her perspective? Some people assume Cloud returning to normalcy after AC, but its been hinted he can still see her walking the meadows at the end. It feels like there should be at least one world in which Cloud dies in the Mako tank and doesn't survive...his past is too enmeshed in whimsical twists of fate to be undone from that of Aerith's to assume one of them could just be unmade...For example, the elephant in the room - how did he kill Sephiroth in Nibelheim? Why are there gaps in Tifa's memory if she's been crisp all this time? Why was there a need for Aerith to confess to Cloud on the beach how dark was her hatred for Hojo, does she have a shadow as well? If she can be deleted there needs to be an assumption that she wasn't real...its a catch 22 because Cloud repressed his memories of Sephiroth which made only grow...So it turns out the more we think about Aerith, the more we grieve and want her to come back. How can this be remedied? Well...logically only by making her the villain and Sephiroth the hero, who can only be redeemed by individuating from his delusions about his mother by meeting his actial mother, the one who loves him with Aerith ending up being a prodigee of Jenova all along, like Cloud was of Sephiroth (his puppet). Crazy...yeah. but you started talk ng about Aerith being erased and the aoologizing for it, I only thought of returning the favor. If she is a Goddess, then Cloud is the recipient of her gift...as in she is alive only in his, multilayered world full of fractured memories, some of which he shares with reality, while others he is unable to because they are deep and endless like the ocean of life itself...One way or the other he is very much like Aerith, he's been exposed, burned, electrocuted...call it whatever you want, but there is no going back...which is also a primary motif in the game. (No getting off this train). He will grow old, and the older he becomes, the clearer his mind and the more vivid and meaningful his dates with Aerith will become, until one day she will turn up alive. Hence my theory that Cloud is actually the Chocobo Sage from the future 😊 I legit hope seeing a grandma Aerith. They always felt like a wise elderly couple from the beyond to me.
i still think all of this is a fever dream and none of it is actually real. and chadly is just running a simulation. its gonna be hilarious after the final part comes out and that turns out to be true. especially with how the ending of FFXVI ended, even though 0 relation to FF7remake trilogy. the games was a metaphor/story being told. remake could literally be chadly just crunching numbers and you are the simulation living it. quite literally Kingdom Hearts RE:Coded. but meh. we will see what happens. makes more sense when you realize chadly introduces you to the simulations. in the end the entire trilogy is just a what if and has no impact on the actual timeline. everyone dies. the end. FF7 can finally rest and stop getting milked so we can finally move on and get a new generation of FF games instead of remasters and remakes and shilling out old games because the new games dont hit the same.
Yooo I've gotta pivot my second video to that detail on Sephiroth! He AND Jenova made a promised land in the northern crater!? That's HUGE! Was killing the clones in the crater, actually fuelling the grown of the Sephnova social memory complex? 😮
I reeeeally like this take! I want this for Aerith because if she can finally and fully merge with the lifestream, allowing her entire being to dissipate AS ALL LIFE SHOULD (according to what I understand of the world lore) … it will mean the planet is finally in the state it should have always been in and can return itself to the greater lifestream someday. That’s something that it either couldn’t or wouldn’t do with the presence of Jenova and everything that comes with her. I like to think what we saw in OG was like a “neutral” ending, but here in the RTrilogy Aerith is shooting for that 100% platinum trophy all collectibles SSS perfect ending where the planet and everyone on it, INCLUDING HERSELF, is able to merge with the lifestream as it was designed, and when the day comes for the planet to return to the greater lifestream, it can, along with the essence of every once living being with it. That’s my ideal ending. Besides, her dying doesn’t have to mean she won’t live before she “self deletes” 😂 We could be looking at a world where she potentially lives out the life she wanted. Same with Zack, and many others who lingered in death because of regret or whatever keeps them from truly dissipating in death. I much prefer the idea that we go through this decades long journey from OG to RTrilogy and reach a final conclusion where, as Aerith says in Advent, “everything is alright.” Always looking forward to your next theories and videos! Your passion when you speak is almost unrivalled, I’d listen and enjoy it regardless if I agreed or not 😂 ✨
4:36 in, I missed this poll, so this could really do with an explanation of your theory. Idk if it is to come, but it just sounds like an idea that sounds edgy, but on what basis?
Is aerith sublimating herself into the lifestream and losing her individualization, sounds different to her disappearing. It came across to me like she would be being erased from the timeline. Where as it sounds like, if everything is wrapped up nicely, she can move on... and that just sounds reasonable.
It could be an interesting point if sephiroth killed the lifestream aerith. Because in the way I think people see it, even though aerith is not alive, I don't think people think of her as dead. So kill the omniscient version of her and bam, sadness, or something, if that's your aim, idk.
Straight up agree bro. 100%. A lot of good point especially toward the end. I can see much of those scenes in my mind, resolving both Cloud and Sephiroths arcs at the same time, teaching them before consigning herself to their greatest fear, holy shit man.
Yoo glad someone else see's it. A narrative power play that resolves multiple aspects of the story in a huge way that gives commentary on the most primal aspect of the human condition. Would be lit
42:35 Really? Didn’t Dyne do just that in his end? I’m not challenging anything, I’m interested to hear what you and others think. To me it seemed that he voluntarily made that conscious choice. I suppose Enobarbus did the same out of guilt after betraying Antony, but the way he passed, left some room for interpretation. By the way, I wanted to add that I loved the exploration that you went into in this video! I, too, have always felt that the remake series had quite a bit of cosmological aspect in it.
I LOVE your idea of Sephiroth having a higher purpose than just dissolving completely forever. There's so much nuance and understanding that the character achieving a higher understanding and role to the natural order of the Lifestream would be fantastic. Especially with Ever Crisis and even the prior entries exploring Sephiroth as an individual. He's never even in the original been a mustache twirling villain
On one hand killing aerith is 100% the writer’s right and you have to respect the creative vision but I never liked it. It was a pretty controversial decision. If SE manages to waste over two decades of my time with dishonest “well things are different this time. Who knows what can change” marketing for the same terrible decisions I’m gonna be upset.
@@FinalFantasyPeasant agreed it would be different, but I'm guessing that to the fans who desperately wanted things to be different for Aerith they probably weren't pinning their hopes on an even more depressing outcome..... :D
@@lysith3aPS5 but whats depressing about it? If Aerith herself doesn't find it depressing and makes commentary on the flawed human condition for thinking it is. Then we've genuinly gotta question what Aerith is trying to convey to humanity and US the player
In this instance I would suggest it's a more depressing outcome for the people who want Aerith to live this time around. I don't share that sentiment, however I've seen enough discourse on the subject over the past ten years to know that it's a definite thing. That said, as explained in a previous reply, I don't see this new outcome achieving anything beyond what simply non-canonifying everything post-OG wouldn't achieve. FF7 OG covered all the same ground, and in a perfectly succinct way. What we're suggesting here is to achieve the same ends albeit after navigating a whole bunch of convolution added by the post-OG content.
Clerith since ‘97. I predict that Cloud will die and that goes against my ship. This will end the shipping wars and the Devs can can focus on remaking FFX and others since there has been so much expansion on 7- The First Solider, Before Crisis, Ever Crisis, Crisis Core, VII, AC, DoC, Nojima’s novels, etc. I believe that Loveless poem and performance carries a lot of insight in the finale. This video is far too long! 😒
Theme of the game is defying fate, it will not make sense if she doesn’t make it.. devs stated they will give a happy ending this time. Also aerith is the heart of FF7 so deleting her permanently will make zero sense. I get that some of you want it that way for nostalgia purposes?,but I believe things changed now.. they were working for so long this project just to keep it the same ? In some capacity we will still have her .. maybe even immortalised
Also thinking the permanent "death" of Aerith in the next installment makes the most sense and would be very moving. I know many people don't think the multiverse of madness will continue, but I'd be surprised that we don't get any Aerith / Zack / Avalanche guys in part 3. And the resolution of the character of Aerith will surely lead to her disappearing totally so that we - as players - also accept to let go of her. Maybe all the others who retained their individuality in the lifestream will also follow her as they will all have gotten a resolution throughout the course of the game. And it would give the sense that Aerith is not alone. Because, her disappearing on her own would be more like another sacrifice. Her merging with the lifestream accompanied with others, will finally put an end to this feeling of being unique, different and lonely somehow.
let me ask you people a question is tifa going to save cloud in part 3 or do you think that square enix is going to change her role you do know that if tifa doesn't save cloud in part 3 then a lot of people are going to be very disappointed and not going to buy part 3 at all?
IMO there's no way on earth they will change that. It's pretty much her entire purpose in the game, if you remove that then she's largely a redundant character.
@@RyanOstrowski-eh6ft probably to facilitate some changes to how the lifestream sequence will ultimately be presented, but it's still going to happen and Tifa will remain the driving force for it.
@@RyanOstrowski-eh6ft given her mental "flashes" it would kind of imply that she does, but I'm really not sure. I want to say no, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Aerith being alive in a different world will sell and make more money for square. But they fully intend to keep the story beats canon… and we know what that implies, unfortunately
im curious why Aerith being ACTUALLY alive will sell more? Like I totally see why the MYSTERY of it is enough to entice people to buy part 3 to find out. But the resolution or reality of it could swing either way right? Why would sales change?
Everyone wants a happy ending. Unfortunately, the Japanese intend to create a story that will stand the test of time, and it’s clear that after nearly 3 decades the story is still powerful- which means she will surely “return to the planet”
I would've liked if she was gone once she was killed. Then maybe in the third game we control her and Zack together fighting in the lifestream every now and then while we and the main party continue our journey. Then maybe we complete the lifestream journey and because of this, Minerva allows aerith to come back temporarily to help the main party or just cloud in the final battle against sephiroth. Kind of like how she did in rebirth at the end.
I'm just going to say. I think Aerith and Zack will be reunited and it will one of the highest climatic points in part 3, whether they get to live together in the livestream, another world, or in the same world as Cloud and friends will be the question. I don't buy your theory about Aerith being permanently deleted. She's too popular of a character to do that. Many clerith shippers will hate it, but I think Aerith will find happiness with Zack and she will be rewarded and so will Zack.
@@FinalFantasyPeasant The Devs did say in an article or somewhere that they want the characters to get a happier conclusion, so a permanent deletion of a character doesn't go with a happier conclusion. Also Red XIII had said the original ending was the ending they would get if they failed at the end of Remake. Rebirth they decided to follow closer to the original for caution sake in my opinion. The 3rd game they can go more off the rails and plus we have no clue of when the other compilation characters if and when they appear what role they will have in the story
My narrative hope is that Jenova is messing with cloud but later on after cloud accepts everything gets his memory back, when timelines connect again cloud will have a mindf**** seeing aerith alive
if she cannot be saved and have a happy ever after with cloud then it will be peak cringe, what the fuck was the point of all the time jannies and marvel capeshit multiverse stuff if the outcome is the same? the og was about loss, the devs mum etc we went though the stages of grief and moved on years ago but we all wished aerith could be saved,if she still cannot be saved somehow i will be pissed, they should of just made it a 1:1 at that point after ff9 remake ill be clocking out of square games if that is the case, the sweet baby inc stuff has pissed me off, them pulling "haha shes dead you cant save her :D" card after 3x60 quid games promising a chance to change stuff? oof
because the outcome wouldn't be the same. Reconciling the ideological split of the human condition. Expanding the promised land to others aka, redemption, free will, an access point to true spiritual evolution and salvation. Commentary on TRUE death, transcending the ego and a path through the gateless gate that Buddhists often speak about. Character development for all our heroes aswell as a powerful resolve for our villain. Is that really all for 'nothing'? A happy ever after with Cloud can be nice for some. But to me it's a more hollow, superficial, hypocritical and self serving outcome that does nothing but appeal to chronic shipper brain. Which most people aren't singularly obsessed with surprisingly. I think a Remake triology and all this expansion leading to purely 'the boy gets a girl' is even more of a disservice
I would want for her and Zack to have a little bit of life together, even in another reality, not just afterlife...They both so much deserved it. I definitely want Zack to survive this time and go back to his parents. Or at least visit them once. Then after some time Aerith could merge with the planet and give people the promised land.
Yeah I suppose having faith is something that seemed nonsensical to me in the past so I'm always percieving it with the historical lense. Faith has been one wild journey for me lol
@@FinalFantasyPeasantReally cool to hear this type of nucetra testimony, and to think it somehow came with analysing our favorite media. There's no coincidence, it creates a bond, like the Lifestream 😊
More than likely i'll skip part 3 anyways. I mean rebirth was good but it tuned into FF mini game and by the end i was wore out from everything takes a mini game it was BS. I own every FF game played em all and love em all but not a fan of mini game creep they way they did it to us.
Cloud in 7: defeat the image of his hero inside his mind to finish the game Cloud in remake: beat up the flower girl to finally get her to leave you alone.
U guys always love to mischaracterize cloud just to make it seem he hates aerith. Too bad, coz cloud is fond of her to a point where he cried when she "died"
The truth is that Aerith has always been the banner bearer of a harsh message. Which means any person who identifies/fancies her so much he/she becomes overly invested in her is doomed to lie to him/herself until they go mental. Because the truth is tragic. They set themselves up to fail so badly. And they cant resolve this investment made.
Unfortunately this would be a horrible narrative. A lot of your fans are Clotis and dont understand the story at all. Zack and Aerith was destroyed by Marlene in the game. Saying otherwise is wrong and makes no sense.
No it wasn’t. Aerith having feelings for cloud does not translate to but she has no feelings for Zack. Aerith herself said she maybe still has feelings for him. On top of that you have the dream date where a shadow of Zack (as stamp) infiltrates every part of the date. The stamp plushie in the accessory shop, the stamp candy in the candy shop, the stamp poster in the photo contest, and lastly a cut to Zack waiting at her church when she brings up “our place” to cloud and he doesn’t readily know where their spot is. That’s been one of aerith’s struggles, trying to move on from Zack, but lingering feelings are still there, that much is evident. And I’m not saying zerith will be a thing in part 3 but at the very least all rebirth did was set up some sort of angst/conflict to be resolved in part 3 when they reunite.
@allia807 don't waste your time trying to figure out the story. I understand it with the absolute best of them. English and Japanese. I acknowledge your opinion, and I don't agree with it, as it doesn't fit the story correctly.
why would it be horrible? Genuinly curious because it sounds like a non-acceptance of impermanence the same as Seph and the black whispers. Aerith's death in OG wasn't a 'horrible narrative', it catapulted it to one of the most iconic games/moments in video game history. Cloti's are like 10% of the shippers and even less still because there are many who don't prioritize ships
People need to accept the reality of death, and death don’t have a respawn…and this is a way to show just how serious death and reality can be…she’s gone, and she shouldn’t be shown at all in the final installment,it’s the only way to go
I actually can't watch this till I finish rebirth, frick, been dragging my feet lol. As the most direct Christ allegory though in the world (she even acts like him/her, it's uncanny to be honest, if you've ever met mr. make your dreams come true, the body of imagination, Christ himself, you would know that aerith is his female incarnation, her personality is identical to his, it's uhm...intensely personal I even cry sometimes looking at aerith like omg, talk about a white mirror, cue the existential unfathomable meaning sessions, she acts more like Christ than the bible representation does, anyone who knows Christ will back me up on that, Christ is funny, flirty, charming, friendly, very non-serious, aerith basically I'm telling ya lol and I know trust me, it makes me think the square enix guys know all about Christ, which is honestly very likely.) so I doubt it tbh, it wouldnt make any sense? It'll prob be the opposite, eternal life. Coming back in a month or whatever though... just out of morbid curiosity, hoping this isn't just click bait capitalizing off a hype topic cause I think you're better than that.
Uhh you misunderstand. What Aerith is. "A" goddess? More like, God, fully incarnate in a person, that's what Christ is. No lower case "g" god here, that's not what Aerith is.
@@OGBabygurl you do know that if tifa doesn't save cloud in part 3 then a lot of people are going to be very disappointed and not going to buy part 3 at all?
I think she's slowly going into her own new mental state. the 6th state of consciousness in Yogacara and Cloud is in the 7th. I think she's going to be able to be more involved in his journey through mental distortions than she was previously
@@RyanOstrowski-eh6ft I think the LS sequence will be a lot larger than in OG. This time a lot of mysteries around the LS and the different worlds will be explained and Tifa cannot do this alone, she lacks the knowledge. But she will be the one to put Cloud's memories together for sure.
Examples:
1) Her saying in Remake that the future can be changed and it's not set in stone.
2) During Red's date, the camera zooms in on Cloud saying: 'Whats the point of fate, if it can't be changed?"
3) One of the devs, (I can't remember which one, sorry) saying that Aerith is fighting to change her fate.
We're saving our girl no matter what!"
I think this fandom needs to accept and respect that there are fans, both old and new, with different opinions, interpretations, and theories.
Dead or not I just want her to be a playable character in part 3, she is so well designed and fun to play with.
I’m also aware that a lot of things have been out of order and or in different ways things happen differently therefore the outcome is different
And I get that, seems that people think after reading my comments that I don’t understand it’s not the same!!
But I do, I get it apparently Midgar and Kalm, and apparently other places in rebirth were never as lively in the OG, but you know what.. this is 2024 and games that are remade are upgraded and usually dialed up to 11 which these were and I am here for it
One of my more recent theory crafts, and probably maybe unpopular -assuming the theories are correct that Zack was In the true timeline at the end of rebirth, Cloud dies at the end of part three
in order to “save Sephiroth”
Personally, I think that Tifa would benefit from dating real man like Zack so by the end, I think it should be Clerith in the lifestream and ZaTi on earth❤
Yeah that was it! I remember the quotes and the intention. I wonder how Sakaguchi feels or his hopes for Aerith's fate and how they did it in Rebirth
4:50 I believe it was Sakaguchi that had lost his mother during the development of FF6 and then conveying those feelings into FF7
ahh yes the goooch! That sounds right
This is very much unrelated and probably too personal, but sometimes when I'm watching your videos Pez, I'm reminded of a feeling when I was a child and wondering what life and death means for the first time, even when these games aren't part of my childhood. It's a very strong and nice feeling and I thought you should know ^^ so thank you
it's crazy what some game and random youtuber could do to us
Oh my God 21:16 hearing you talk about how he test away parts of his soul until only his determination and ruthlessness was there just makes me think of lightning😂😂😂😂😂😂 enlightening returns.
The way I perceive her speech is that she indeed accepts death as a part of life and is ready to fulfill her duty as a Cetra if needed but that she still has a grain of hope that "the future" (her fate) can be changed, "even if it has been written"
Her hope is also my hope.
Goddess no, most beloved female game character that should have had a better fate, one in which she lives in, yes

SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PPL IN THE BACK!
Just wishing you the best Jake my man! You and your loved ones :)
I do hope that they progress more to a game that feels less like a Ubisoft tower-based map.. it took to much of the wonder out of the -otherwise- goooorgeous map.
and whoever was in charge of the music and design of the world should get 5 raises over...
looking forward to your next vid! ;)
Aerith being permenantly dead no. but Aerith becomes the goddess of the lifestream yeah ill go with that
I feel like they'll reveal yes she died at the "all is revealed" scene in the Northern Crater, and that's when we'll hear those recorded lines as Cloud is forced to acknowledge it really happened.
I had no idea you uploaded this vid, it would work tbh, if done right
I believe they will include a part where cloud will find the promised land and be able to meet her again and ask Aerith to “wake up” like that one scene from rebirth
well ive only just discovered that there's two promised lands. The Cetra's and Jenova's. Could be very interesting which promised land Cloud witnesses and how the two are handled
Whats the point of that though? Story wise I mean.
My take, without any bigger message or deep thinking, is that she died on the altar, Cloud just blocked it, then at some point he (and we) will finally accept it, for her to return later in the story - somehow. Square can go anywhere the please, so I'm not even trying to predict story's direction.
I'm only 3 mins into you video but where is that poll from? I checked your community tab on here (RUclips) and didn't see it.
It was a poll I did over on twitter. 107 respondents that surprised me with the results x.com/FFPeasants/status/1809434097904939452
Hence my theory that Cloud is actually the Chocobo Sage from the future 😊
I legit hope seeing a grandma Aerith.
Devs said it will line up with Advent Children, so...
Yooo I've gotta pivot my second video to that detail on Sephiroth! He AND Jenova made a promised land in the northern crater!? That's HUGE! Was killing the clones in the crater, actually fuelling the grown of the Sephnova social memory complex? 😮
Well if you're right after all this buildup of hope, I'm not even gonna bother with buying part 3. Let's see what the trailers will show us.
Hope for what?
wow you're right. What if aerith will be actually absent and the group has to get rid of meteor and jenova another way.
I much prefer the idea that we go through this decades long journey from OG to RTrilogy and reach a final conclusion where, as Aerith says in Advent, “everything is alright.”
Always looking forward to your next theories and videos! Your passion when you speak is almost unrivalled, I’d listen and enjoy it regardless if I agreed or not 😂 ✨
"People die when they are killed." ~ Emiya Shirou
Good stuff bro.
That's like thinking of like two stages of dying, and saying there's another death to experience in the afterlife
It could be an interesting point if sephiroth killed the lifestream aerith. Because in the way I think people see it, even though aerith is not alive, I don't think people think of her as dead. So kill the omniscient version of her and bam, sadness, or something, if that's your aim, idk.
Lol, this theory crap has gotten super lame over the years. Everybody is an EXPERT.
Aerith is my favorite number one of FF 7 characters so do you think she gonna have happy ending in part 3 ?
Who knows what can change” marketing for the same terrible decisions I’m gonna be upset.
things would be different by this theory. Vastly. But not in the way people are immediately led to believe
Two decades of your life are wasted if she dies? Is that the whole meaning to your investment in FF7R? What about the actual story in its totality? 😂
It was Nobuo Uematsu's mother who passed away, he wrote Aerith's theme for her.
you guys are killing so many peoples mother lol. no one mentions the same person.
Cloud should be with Anabella
Theme of the game is defying fate, it will not make sense if she doesn’t make it.. devs stated they will give a happy ending this time. Also aerith is the heart of FF7 so deleting her permanently will make zero sense. I get that some of you want it that way for nostalgia purposes?,but I believe things changed now.. they were working for so long this project just to keep it the same ? In some capacity we will still have her .. maybe even immortalised
was Dyne also not suicide in OG or am i mistaken?
@@lysith3aPS5 but why is tifa having mental flashes in rebirth?
@@RyanOstrowski-eh6ft probably to facilitate some changes to how the lifestream sequence will ultimately be presented, but it's still going to happen and Tifa will remain the driving force for it.
@@lysith3aPS5 do you think that tifa has jenova cells in rebirth? and in tifa trial why is there a young cloud in her trial?
@@RyanOstrowski-eh6ft given her mental "flashes" it would kind of imply that she does, but I'm really not sure. I want to say no, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Aerith being alive in a different world will sell and make more money for square. But they fully intend to keep the story beats canon… and we know what that implies, unfortunately
im curious why Aerith being ACTUALLY alive will sell more? Like I totally see why the MYSTERY of it is enough to entice people to buy part 3 to find out. But the resolution or reality of it could swing either way right? Why would sales change?
@@FinalFantasyPeasantHe means that it would sell more to shippers lmao. There’s no other purpose for it.
Many clerith shippers will hate it, but I think Aerith will find happiness with Zack and she will be rewarded and so will Zack.
it's very possible. But what makes you think happy ever afters a more popular than powerful narrative messaging?
@@FinalFantasyPeasant The Devs did say in an article or somewhere that they want the characters to get a happier conclusion, so a permanent deletion of a character doesn't go with a happier conclusion. Also Red XIII had said the original ending was the ending they would get if they failed at the end of Remake. Rebirth they decided to follow closer to the original for caution sake in my opinion. The 3rd game they can go more off the rails and plus we have no clue of when the other compilation characters if and when they appear what role they will have in the story
My narrative hope is that Jenova is messing with cloud but later on after cloud accepts everything gets his memory back, when timelines connect again cloud will have a mindf**** seeing aerith alive
if she cannot be saved and have a happy ever after with cloud then it will be peak cringe, what the fuck was the point of all the time jannies and marvel capeshit multiverse stuff if the outcome is the same?
the og was about loss, the devs mum etc we went though the stages of grief and moved on years ago but we all wished aerith could be saved,if she still cannot be saved somehow i will be pissed, they should of just made it a 1:1 at that point
after ff9 remake ill be clocking out of square games if that is the case, the sweet baby inc stuff has pissed me off, them pulling "haha shes dead you cant save her :D" card after 3x60 quid games promising a chance to change stuff? oof
because the outcome wouldn't be the same.
But what if they've already had a life together in the promised land for centuries already?
Having faith is kind of the opposite of soyboy to me now
Yeah I suppose having faith is something that seemed nonsensical to me in the past so I'm always percieving it with the historical lense. Faith has been one wild journey for me lol
@@FinalFantasyPeasantReally cool to hear this type of nucetra testimony, and to think it somehow came with analysing our favorite media. There's no coincidence, it creates a bond, like the Lifestream 😊
Hi
More than likely i'll skip part 3 anyways. I mean rebirth was good but it tuned into FF mini game and by the end i was wore out from everything takes a mini game it was BS. I own every FF game played em all and love em all but not a fan of mini game creep they way they did it to us.
I suppose square could make the mini games more skippable friendly
Cloud in 7: defeat the image of his hero inside his mind to finish the game
Cloud in remake: beat up the flower girl to finally get her to leave you alone.
@@Crashsquirrel72 ah okay, sounds like you don’t understand either but okay 👍🏽
@@allia807 I do, but you can move along. Not wasting my time again.
People need to accept the reality of death, and death don’t have a respawn…and this is a way to show just how serious death and reality can be…she’s gone, and she shouldn’t be shown at all in the final installment,it’s the only way to go
You copied me
copied what? I can tell you now that I copy noone lol. zero people. I dont watch anyones content besides maybe the occasional max vid
No lower case "g" god here, that's not what Aerith is.
is tifa going to save cloud from his mental state in part 3?
I think she will assist, but it's going to be a collaborative effort in the 3rd series.
@@FinalFantasyPeasant so do you still think that tifa is going to save cloud in part 3?
@@RyanOstrowski-eh6ft I think the LS sequence will be a lot larger than in OG. This time a lot of mysteries around the LS and the different worlds will be explained and Tifa cannot do this alone, she lacks the knowledge. But she will be the one to put Cloud's memories together for sure.
