Thank you. You legend
It may start there, but character creation isn't done until 17:35 >.
Thanks!
Thanks much

Chat: "Ignore the gatekeepers. Play what you want, how you want."
Luke: "Aww, thank you! That's exactly right!"
Bloodborne: "Gate does not open from this side."
I like how Luke converses with The Chat during his streams like it's a thousand-headed hydra that shows up to chill with him and watch him play video games, and also offer varying commentary from hundreds of its heads simultaneously.
I'm pretty sure that's what the chat *is*.
This is the best interpretation of the hive mind, thank you, I'll definitely be stealing this for some fun shenanigans in my next RPG
Luke(as ray sunshine):Heres the plan. We go to yarham. Kill them all and drink their blood.
Normal Luke: i dont know what the plot of the game is.
Me: . . . Hit the nail on the head really.
Late at night and feeling bored and lonely: the best answer is to watch this through for the third time. I swear I'm not even a person who rewatches things, this is just so comforting!
Just embarking on my fourth or fifth rewatch 😂
For me it's their Link's Awakening playthrough. Legitimately puts me to sleep.
Stream starts at 3:01
Character creation ends at 21:57
Thank you, my good man
It's so funny coming back to this after Luke finished beating the game. He's so cautious now, carefully peering around every corner to see what might be hiding. By the end of the game he just charges through. It's great to see the difference.
Marvel: 'Infinity War is the most ambitious crossover event in history'
Luke: Is PlayStation Access in the chat?!
Luke: *walks past the doll twice*
Luke: OH you weren't there before!
Luke: “I don’t want to get too far in the weeds on character creation.” Also Luke: *spends five minutes minutely adjusting eyebrows*
At that point he’s not too far into the weeds: he is the weeds.
It never ceases to amaze me how accurately Luke scoped the plot of the game in a joke while the opening cutscene was loading.
You did great Luke, keep at it! Just thought I'd let you know that while Quick Silver Bullets and Blood Vials do stop being added to your immediate inventory at 20, they will continue to accumulate in the storage chest back at the Hunter's Dream with a limit of 100. They will automatically replenish whenever you respawn so long as you have some stored away.
There's actually limit of 500 or something, I think. I'm not too sure on that number, but it's definitely more than 300
That's correct. I believe at launch the cap was 100 but they increased it afterwards
Whaaaaaat? Amazing, thx for the advice!
I’ve got like two hundred bullets stored, the limit is definitely more than 100
I desperately hope there’s a part 2 sometime soon. This is tied for my second favorite game of all time, and Luke is a delight!
What is the full list then?
Whats your favorite?
Do tell
Things Luke is very good at: fighting enemies, figuring out stats and being the embodiment of a happy puppy. Things Luke is very bad at: being observant.
Luke has negative insight IRL.
I LOVE Luke, he's my favorite X member... and Bloodborne is my favorite From game...
But watching this is INFURIATING!!!
his play style, not thoroughly checking for items despite having played numerous souls games, and knowing they have a method...
When he almost left the Sewer detour after BEING TOLD EXPLICITLY that there was good armor, I nearly Screamed!
The way he fails to find items, see enemies, check corners...
I love him but it's so exasperating!

Ray Sunshine = Evil Luke with Victorian facial hair. The playthrough we desperately need
Now I want to see the return of evil luke when they return to the studio. Also an introduction to the other mirror universe counterparts: evil andy who only spends 5 seconds on character creation and graduated with honors from the mike channel school of stealth, evil mike who drives responsibly and eschews explosive weapons and evil jane who maintains an actual hospital and treats the ghosts more like slimer than constantly sending ghostbuster janitors after them
@@gamehunter88 When are we gonna meet good Jane though?
@@jasonjason9270 we have her already. I may have a misguided sense of what "good" means. I used to be roommates with Emperor Palpatine's ex.
Luke, I know you had to be nervous playing an incredibly hard game on a live stream. Bloodborne is one of my favorite games. So I gotta say, you absolutely smashed it.
I only recently played Bloodborne and I enjoyed it immensely. What a delight it is to watch my favorite presenter from my favorite channel(s) play what has quickly become one of my favorite games. Life really is beautiful if you just accept the gifts it gives you.
Hi Luke, really enjoyed the stream 😁 I've played through this game more times than is probably healthy, so I just wanted to drop some tips here for you, as this game doesn't necessarily make certain mechanics clear right off the bat: (quick disclaimer: I'm not doing this to undermine your gameplay - you're a goshdang natural after all - I'm just hoping to make your time playing a bit easier and more enjoyable 🙂)
Rally system: when you're hit, your lost health isn't immediately taken away. If you get in and attack immediately, each hit will recover health. This even works for a short time after an enemy dies. This is essential for saving on healing items. Don't underestimate how valuable this is; speed and aggression are definitely your friends.
Dodging: the best direction to dodge is usually, though not always, *through* an enemy's attack instead of away. For example, if they swing an axe/hammer/hairy arm at you, dodging underneath will get you in an ideal position.
Parrying: I feel silly even writing this for Luke "Parry King", who bitchslapped Gwyn to death, but parrying (known as Visceral Attacks in Bloodborne) can be a bit tricky. Once the bullet lands and you hear the tell-tale "staggered" noise and see them fall to their knees/gross appendages, quick-step in close (the closer the better - try and get right in their face) and press R1 once. If you press it repeatedly, it sometimes doesn't register as a parry. Also worth noting that on some bosses (including the Cleric Beast), dealing enough damage to a certain body part, usually the head, will also stagger them and leave them open for a Visceral Attack; this is to compensate for the fact that conventional gun parries don't work on some enemy types.
Items: items like Blood Vials and QS Bullets have a limit in your current inventory of 20, but don't worry about missing out if you fill up: any extra consumables will be sent automatically to your storage box - when you next die or change area, your inventory will fill automatically.
Stats: combat is largely reliant on 3 main stats - Endurance (stamina), Strength (hit harder/take less damage) and Vitality (max health). Skill (which also increases parry damage) is also important to varying degrees, depending on which weapons you choose: when you look at a weapon on the weapon screen, you can see what stat it scales to (-,E,D,C,B,A,S). I wouldn't worry too much about Bloodtinge/Arcane if I were you, as it's mainly for specialised builds and you won't get much use out of them until most of the way through the game. Stats have a few softcaps and a hardcap that it helps to be aware of: stats have diminishing returns, so past a certain point, you'll get very little growth. The first softcap for most stats are about 25, and it's usually not worth going above 40/50 unless you've got loads of extra blood echoes knocking around.
Weapon Transformation (L1): when you get a new weapon, it's worth familiarising yourself with both of its forms and learning its strengths and limitations; the two-handed state is usually slower and more powerful, with more range and can be useful for taking on large groups.
Backstabs: backstabs work a bit differently than in Dark Souls; instead of just pressing R1 behind an enemy, you have to fully charge an attack (R2) until you see a small glint of light on your weapon - this will stagger them and leave them open for a Visceral Attack.
Armour: unless you get deep into the nitty-gritty of min-maxing, armour is largely cosmetic (there's a reason it's nicknamed FashionSouls); the resistance bonuses you get from different armours is usually negligible. But again, there are exceptions, especially with Fire/Arcane damage and Frenzy (but that's a late-game mechanic not worth worrying about at the start)
Insight: the more Insight you have accumulated (it's the number in the top right, underneath your blood echoes) the more the world around you will change, in a number of ways that I won't spoil for you. Using a Madman's Knowledge item will grant you 1 insight. You can spend Insight to buy some good gear in the Hunter's Dream - go through the open door near Gehrman onto a little outcrop of rock and you'll find a messenger bath just like the one below. More gear becomes available as you progress.
Chalice Dungeons: these optional areas are primarily used for farming loads of blood echoes and powerful gems for your weapons. Unlocking them and progressing all the way to the optional boss at the end of them (Queen Yharnam) can be tricky to figure out without a guide.
Upgrading weapons: there aren't enough materials (blood shards etc) in a single playthrough to fully upgrade most of your weapons, so it's advisable to settle on the weapon you like best after you've experimented with them. Gems will alter your weapons with a huge variety of additional effects; some powerful gems come with downsides - it all depends on your playstyle.
Runes: you won't be able to utilise Runes until you've defeated the Witches of Hemwick, so you don't need to worry about them for a while yet, but when you do, they (like gems) have a variety of effects, but these work directly on you, without downsides. Individual Runes come in several power levels so it's worth swapping them out when you get new ones.
The Hunter's Dream: up in the room with Gehrman are several important tools - the storage box (looks like a coffin, near the front door), weapon upgrade stand (to the left of the storage box) and the Rune station (looks like a shrine, with the candelabra on it)
That's all I can think of right now, except one final tip: enjoy your-dang-self and don't feel bummed out if you miss some things; there are so many optional sidequests and encounters that you probably won't complete on your first playthrough without using a guide. Apologies for the text dump 😄 Looking forward to more from you and Ray!
@Angel Guerrero It was my first Soulsborne game, so it definitely holds a special place in my heart. I've poured hundreds of hours into this. Having played and platinumed them all, I think this is my favourite, followed by OG Dark Souls, then Dark Souls 3, and Dark Souls 2 leading the rear. Sekiro is another beast entirely lol
I was coming to the comments to mention dodging because I feel like knowing that makes the game far more fun quickly. Everything else you say is spot on excellent advise. Love the game and it’s my first and only platinum!
All great tips for new hunters! Learning the value of aggression and pressing the advantage definitely takes some getting used to. As a fellow addict I'm glad to see that the community is still growing after so long. Fear the old blood.
@@ethangoodrich3625 May the good blood guide your way 😁
Also, this bears mentioning : items that go beyond your carrying capacity (such as blood vials, bullets, pebbles, and others) are not lost when you pick them up : they are transferred to a chest in the Hunter's Dream. The chest does have a maximum capacity, and when it's reached you won't be able to pick up items anymore (the capacity is individualized for each item, so if for instance you are completely full on blood vials, you can still pick up bullets).
Probably said this before, but I‘m so glad that other people know about THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE. It was and still is my favorite movie, over ten years later. And keep on plugging Luke! You got this!
It's such a good movie, very underrated
It's one of my absolute favourites. 🐭🔍
That movie is 🔥
I wish people in the chat hadn't been like "go left for the cleric beast", I feel like part of the fun is coming across them on your own, I would've hated to have been told exactly what I was going to encounter if I was playing for the first time
He needs professional moderators like other big streamers. cohh employs a fair few to keep chat in line.
this new Animal Crossing update is a lot to process
tom nook took a turn for the worse...
Bloodborne is my favourite FromSoftware game, and I'm so excited to see Luke playing it. I understand why Luke may be hesitant to play a notorious game such as this in front of an audience because there are a lot of critics out there, and sometimes, you might die to a boss one hundred times before killing them, but I have faith in this community and their positive energy! :D
"Ignore the gatekeepers!"
Luke: Good, good.
*immediately attempts to open gate*
"This gate is locked from the other side."
Me: CURSE YOU, GATEKEEPERS!
This is one of those games that I've had for years but never played, might go ahead and get into it. You can do it, Luke, we believe in you!
Bloodborne is the single greatest modern adaptation of the eldritch horror mythos, I have ever witnessed in my entire life.
It’s characters, it’s story, it’s themes, concepts, art, music, the entire game, is just a glorious celebration of video games and art.
You owe it to yourself to get lost in Yharnam.
I know this is a reply to a 7 month old comment, but after watching his Demon souls i started watching this, and i feel the same way. Got back into it and found actually understanding how the game works makes it a lot more enjoyable.
Aww isn’t this the game that Luke said he was nervous of playing on stream in the past? Excited to see him play!
I fast forwarded through part of the beginning so his character suddenly had mutton chops and a twirly mustache and I started cracking up. I love you Luke! 😂
39:25 Holy shit, the first shot he fires and he accidentally gets a stagger
Though to be fair, some of the earlier enemies, at any point during their attack animation you can shoot them and get a stagger.
Still impressive though.
Oh, is that so? The only things I shot at in the beginning of the game were the executioner (which is supposed to be hard to parry) and the dogs (because that makes them super easy)
@@njitram2000 the pale guys with the cane, when they start an attack, any point when you shoot during that animation it staggers them.
Beast to the left of me, werewolves to the right! Here I am! Stuck in the middle of hell 🎶
Gods the accuracy
This gave me an idea, in fact two:
1) “The Generator Divide”: Describing interesting or funny character generators from various games.
2) “Show Me Your Shephard” or “The Five Sole Survivors”: Showing, describing and explaining your individually created character from one common game with a decent character generator. Mass Effect 2 or Fallout 4 for instance.
Facial feature sculpting is indeed time-consuming. But it is also one of the things that truly set games apart from other forms of electronic entertainment.
Watching the OX/Xtra’s take on this could be very interesting and enjoyable, I think.
8:08 Congratulations Luke, you made a 1990's Peter Capaldi!! :D
I came to the comments looking for this one
Character creation took less than half an hour? Someone call Guinness
For what the record or the beer to celebrate the record
Dragonmaster76 Why not both?
"Ray Sunshine"
Delightfully ironic for this particular game. :'D
This is the only Soulsborne game I've played, and I haven't finished it -- was housesitting for a friend and decided to give it a whirl since she owned it. I was very intimidated by the reputation the games have ... but I ended up having a lot of fun! Beat the first three big bosses in 2 days and then housesitting time was over ... now I'm waiting to either housesit again or have it arrive on PC finally. But I'm very excited to watch you play it! My heart pounds whenever you pass where I know a jumpscare baddie hides haha.
Words can not describe how excited I was to see this pop up in my notifications. This is my favorite game on the PS4 and it was a blast to watch you play it. You did significantly better than I did on my first run. I really want to see you press on with the game!
Hi Luke. I think my last Superchat got lost in the shuffle so if you're reading this back: you really don't need to grind or farm vials for the Cleric Beast. You don't even need the armour you got. It's a fairly easy early boss. All you have to do is get better with your viscerals which you were doing fine at near the end there. OR if you're struggling with the timing of the viscerals, spam molotovs until you run out, then don't lock on, L1 transform your weapon, stay under it and attack as much as you can. Remember you get health back if you keep attacking but also don't get greedy. Be aggressive but not foolish. Don't play it like Dark Souls.
Just a quick tip:
The blood echoes you drop upon death ARE NOT automatically transferred to the nearest enemy.
Rather, IF an enemy happens to walk over the bloodstain you left behind (which is created upon your death near where you died), THEN that enemy will have your blood echoes.
Bosses cannot pick up your blood echoes.
Edit: Just wanted to add, it was great fun watching you play this marvelous game Luke. Hope you'll continue doing so, but I'll understand if for whatever reason, you chose not to do so. Ok bye, see ya later Parry God.
"that looks magically pale"
*Looks at legs*
I'M MAGIC
This is the ray of sunshine I needed this week. Please continue to do this, if you enjoyed the game. You're so positive for such a dark game. I didn't know I needed this, but I did.
I'm rewatching this livestreams while working and damn, for some reason I felt that this series was ages ago. Felt so weird when I saw that it was from only 2020, so many things have happened but at the same time the world isn't still fully open and "normal"
Luke, I really hope you keep playing this! It's my favourite video game of all time and has a lot of very important meaning to me, seeing you play it is an absolute delight!
One tip: don't bother grinding for blood vials, it is much faster to get echoes to then buy vials. Every time you go to the dream level up, then spend any extra echoes on vials, you will have a surplus before long
Excellent let's play. Please keep going with it. Its given me inspiration to restart a game I never finished. Well done ox team and especially luke.
FYI you can keep hitting the enemies as they die to get more health back.
The torch attacks always seem to trigger damage instantly so don’t feel bad about getting hit by those
I'm so happy to see you give this a go! I hope you liked it enough to continue, whether on stream or off. It's by far my favorite of the Soulsborne games, due in no small part, I'm sure, to being the only I've I've completed so far...
"Lookit the iron work on this bench" *smashing coffins* "that's basically lovely." XD I died.
That was so much fun to watch.
On to the next one 😄
P.S, was writing this comment and I hear "tell them cheese the werewolf's.
Cracked me right up 😂🤣😂🤣😂
"oh I look like I'm on the box" I love the excitement.
My theory is that the Ogre just wanted to join the werewolf burning party but those guys were being jerks and closed the door in his face.
Hello Xtra team~ I wish I wasn't at work when this was live, but looking forward to Lukes adventure in Yharnam and hope this becomes his next "Its master mode baby" stream
Had a great time watching this, and hope you enjoyed making the content too! You did a fantastic job staying alive for a first-time playthrough Luke! I do have to say though that as you are someone who plays games for a living it astonished me that you didn't speak to a single NPC more than once until chat told you to, I thought exhausting all dialogue options was just gamer instinct at this point lmao
Disappointed to see Luke walking away from his favorite catchphrase "EVERYONE FIGHT ME AT ONCE"
"Is one of these statues gonna come to life?" *stares in cainhurst*
The game hasn't even started, but I'll guarantee that you're better than I am at this game, Luke!
He did finish Sekiro. I've got high hopes. (Reading comments before watching because I LOVE that intro song they use.)
"I made a table mistake" The first and hopefully a long series of more mistakes of game videos like this. 👍
Hope you play some more, Luke. Bloodborne is one of my all time favourites.
Rewatching this series because it’s better than actual TV
Ah yes, my favorite game I will never play, played by my favorite person I will never meet. Time to settle in. I’ve got a crackling wood fire, some tea and a sleepy cat. Let’s do this.
Oxboxtra plays Bloodborne? O happy day!
A good first play, Luke. I didn't get that far until I had been playing for a few days between working. Makes me want to play one of my all time favorite games again. Spoilers, though, the Cleric Beast is an easy boss. You're in for a treat with many of the other wonderful and frustrating bosses. You'll do fine, though.
Also: after you get hit, if you attack, you can regain some or all of your lost health. All can be regained by riposting/backstabbing/parrying the enemies.
Came back because I realised I joined this first stream late and at the time I didn't think I had missed much as he had only just woken up and hadn't yet encounter the first werewolf. I now realise I missed a LOT of character creation - which I am so here for
I am so late in watching specifically on the gaming let's plays on Oxtra and Oxbox but I am excited to binge watch something really fun with Luke and Ellen
This was my first From Software game. One of my favorites, but it took me about 6 hours of gameplay to make it to the first checkpoint. Played the rest of the game without ever having someone drop in to help.
I'd be annoyed if I was shot by me - Luke Westaway, 2020
Love the stream, hope you can continue (endurance builds are good so go for it)
Mad hyped to watch Luke play one of my favorite games of all time
Yes Luke! I'm sad I missed the live stream. I wish you all the luck and hope you stick with it. I loved watching Johnny and Aoife's Let's Play on Eurogamer. I know I'll love yours too.
Couldn’t catch it live, but loved it and the game. Hoping for a play through? Please bring on a pt 2 if ur willing we would love it!
Holy shot. I only ever played this game offline, I had no idea it was so busy in online mode.
Forgot how amazing this is. I bought a ps4 to play this. I had the xb1 till that point. I then used the ps4 for all the exclusives and used the xb1 for anything else. So glad I played it tho
In the chat's attempt to help Luke, they largely made it worse. Fought an optional boss a bit earlier than he otherwise would have. Made him miss a key item for leveling up prior to the Cleric Beast, and he lost a lot of echoes fighting powerful enemies without armor. Not to mention Luke missed multiple messenger notes, item descriptions, and helpful dialogue, and sent him to difficult areas to gather items he could have just bought for far less hassle.
It was pretty funny though :P
I do NOT remember the doll having dialogue before you wake up in the clinic. I had to rewind it and do a double take i was like WHAT?!
We'll see if you discover this in the future (I'm watching the series now that I've finished the game), but the benefit of the blunderbuss is it's nearly 90 degree spread vs the Pistol's single line of fire. This makes the blunderbuss good for enemies who like to move around a lot as you don't have to be as accurate. The pistol balances itself by doing more damage in general but requiring more accuracy.
I keep one of each: Ludwig's rifle for spread and Evelyn as my pistol. In the beginning, spread weapons were my jam but the Pistol became my go-to about 75% of the way through the game.
Luke on Ray Sunshine: I'm so tall and skinny and gaunt and weird
Me: must. resist. mean. joke...
21:29 is when the wonderful character creation stops and the game begins
Whole Luke was working on the character eyes he widen so hard his own 😂 people who draw like me does the same reaction 😂
While watching the beginning I just kept thinking about the "Your screwed yeah your totally screwed" song.
Ray Sunshine sits somewhere between Dick Dastardly and Sans Undertale. What a look!
Luke: What's a nice Victorian name?
Also Luke: Ray Sunshine!
Luke creating his character, "There is a cruelness to it"
Me: It kind of looks like Luke...
Watching the OXtra Animal Crossing streams convinced me to finally get a Switch. I'm hoping that watching Luke take on Bloodborne will motivate me to finally play this game. I always wimped out
what a great stream, this was fun to watch with Luke giving us a little Ray of Sunshine
If Luke does a complete play through of this, DS2 and 3, and Sekiro, Demon Souls for PS5 should be out by the time he’s done 😁
Luke "what could possibly go wrong" Westaway
Can we get Luke a Dr Pepper sponsorship, "what's the worst that could happen"
Luke playing BloodBorne?! Finally it has begun, after Eurogamers playthrough, I needed to see Luke's attempt. may the blood moon rise, Luke!!
Shoosh! Spoiler!
The stream was awesome Luke. Was so glad to be able to watch it live as you played. Ray Sunshine is fantastic.
Playing through Elden Ring again in time for the DLC, but now I want to try Bloodborne again in all its vulgar beauty. Who has the time, though? I've bounced off it a couple times, but this old stream is giving me some unearned confidence in the matter.
Just started this vid, so I may edit my comment later but daaamn Luke, you've created the epitome of sexyness here. This character is perfect, so gorgeous.
23:30 This is what I imagined dementors to look like when I first read the third harry potter book.
"Look at the ironwork on this bench" *lunges into a cart*
"I bet you feel really smug about yourself" says Luke smugly
Hey Luke! Doubt you'll see this, but here's a quick tip for you that absolutely saved me so much time. Don't grind enemies for blood vials. Buy them at the messenger bath in the Dream. They might seem a bit expensive at first, but honestly they're not that bad. What I used to do was spend all my echoes on vials before challenging a boss, or when I had leftover echoes after a level up. If you do this, you'll run out of vials only rarely, and if you do, you can simply beat a couple enemies that give a lot of echoes, and buy yourself some more vials in bulk. Hope this helps!
Also you're doing much better than I was when I first played the game! Hope you'll play again!
Dont do that, use echos for your leveling. Not vials. You will eventually get enough to never farm.
@@sonoftheviper__4304 Like I said, right before you fight a boss, or when you have spare echoes after a level up is when I bought vials. Not instead of leveling up, that'd be kind of a waste indeed.
And killing enemies in hopes of maybe getting a blood vial felt inefficient to me, so if I needed vials, I just farmed enemies for echoes and then used those echoes to buy vials. Way faster, and less frustrating.
If looking for difficult games that AREN'T dimly lit and grim? TRY "Crypt of the Necrodancer"! Movement and action are based entirely on the beat of a dungeon level's soundtrack. You die a lot but never in a nightmare/rage inducing fashion. :D
Luke has made the cardinal mistake of Bloodborne speed and aggression are the most important thing in this game and he is way to cautious hopefully he learns
You must become the beast!
He did fine actually. Bloodborne teaches you to be aware when to be cautious and when to be aggressive. That first bonfire area is the biggest hurdle for new players and going in guns blazing works 0% of the time for them. Practice will make perfect imo.
I love how happy he was when he found PlayStation Access in the chat 😆
It's months later and I'm still so mad at how good Luke is at this game.
The old hunters will crush you, fear Ludwig the Accursed!!! Oh and some say Kos or others say Kosm
The key to beating Cleric Beast is to be aggressive, stay to his flanks and work around his reach. Took me a couple of attempts once I realized to play on the front foot, which is not like the first Dark Souls. You have to unlearn that aspect.
Luke, meet my old friend, +7 Hunter Axe, extended R2 double swing, stun lock.
Always the spin to win
@@name_redunded Killed Vic Aam Cathedral boss (name is Spoiler) with eight swings, and only used four or five blood vials.
