As a loner, this is my anthem. This album is the ultimate loner album. I love Counting Crows and Adam Duritz, my fav. song off the This Desert Life album
My favorite. Helped me decide I'd had enough of a bad marriage after 28 years. Still trying to get my life together eight years later. Looking for love and sometimes feeling I never will get enough. Keep rockin Counting Crows. You're the best ever!
Most people don't understand this song, like most of Adam's works.. Including me. It speaks of giving up, kind of a reset, with no plan forward. Just trying to get myself some gravity. Poet again. Kind of like tired of everyone else telling him what to do and deciding to take the reins but kinda clueless. It's a masterpiece, almost.
I'm not a loner but that's not the point, this song touches that part inside of you regardless...the side that says "f*ck it, i'm packing up and leaving this place". I think everyone feels that way once in a while. Def one of the best songs on the album though. Very disappointing to see only 40,445 views, i would expect so much more for such a beautiful song :) CCs rock
This song will always remind me of hot, sunny summer days. During the summer, Western Washington University would empty out (roughly 10k less students around), so I'd just hang around campus on my own, listening to this album. Was very peaceful.
nope. the beautiful aspect of their songs is that they are open to interpretation, and you can always coming back to them, and they will always be there for you and mean exactly what you need and for where you are. thank you, guys!
One time I was seeing them at Canandaigua CMAC and I yelled out “SPEEDWAY” in between songs and this guy and his buddies a few rows in front of me turn around and yell “THERE’S A REAL FAN!!! THIS DUDE KNOWS!!!” Probably a top five great moment of my life. Was there with my first girlfriend and life was simple
I was addicted to this song a couple of years ago because I was going through a time in my life that can only be described as a vicious circle. I hated being at work, I had no friends, my family didn’t understand my feelings and just told me to “man up” and get on with it... long story short, I was incredibly unhappy and I wanted more than anything to just get away from it all and leave everything behind. Thankfully, I was able to do that last year because I changed jobs and now I’m much happier, but now I’m reflecting on the past by listening to this song just like I did a couple of years ago. It still hurts to hear it, but at least it represents a memory now instead of the present.
Originally, this song never really did anything for me. Then about 10 years ago, it became one of my favorites of theirs. Really expresses how I felt in the last couple of months with my ex-girlfriend...the same spark just wasn't there, but she wanted to hold on and keep fighting to get me to continue. Then she still wanted to get together all the time as friends until I finally just had to tell her it wasn't letting me move on. I needed to break it off, to "get out."
Nobody can accuse ...for lack of proper musical....deep songwriting./musicianship... instead of rubbish. A fairly serious musically inclined band....and their hearts are delved/inspired in the music....which is also very good....well i think special.
I get so nervous, I'm shaking, Gets so I got no pride at all, Gets so bad, but I just keep coming back for more, I guess I just get off on that stuff. I'm thinking about taking some time, I'm thinking about leaving soon. I got some things I can't tell anyone, I got some things I just can't say, Well they're the kind of things no one knows about, I just need somebody to talk, to me. I'm thinking about leaving tomorrow, I'm thinking about leaving on my own, I think I been wasting my time, I'm thinking about getting out, Thinking about getting out. In all this time, The bottom line's you don't know, How much I feel, You say you see but I don't agree, You don't know, Don't know how I feel. I'm just trying to get myself some gravity, You're just trying to get me to stay, Sometimes I sit here looking down upon Los Angeles, Sometimes I'm floating away. I'm thinking about breaking myself, I'm thinking about getting back home, I think I been waiting for way too long, I'm thinking about getting out, Thinking about getting out, Thinking about getting out.
When this song came out, I related it to a boyfriend at the time but about 20 years later I'm now thinking of it with a job and being unappreciated by a boss.

@mohammad5 I know what you're saying. I'm a loner myself. This is one of the best songs on the album, and the whole album is amazing, close to as good as August and Everything After. It seems like after This Desert Life, they went really commercial, with Hard Candy and Sat. Nights/Sunday Mornings (which by the way has some great songs on it). Awesome song, but I like St. Robinson's Cadillac dreams better, due to it's awesome sound.

Thanks to the dreadlock who managed to write a perfect song about my so far very awefull, annoying, shitty day. I don't know how you managed it, but you did. Does this song also comes with an explanation? Or should I figure that one out myself again?

mohammad5 great call man me too
Damn. All these years later, and still not a single friend.
My favorite. Helped me decide I'd had enough of a bad marriage after 28 years. Still trying to get my life together eight years later. Looking for love and sometimes feeling I never will get enough. Keep rockin Counting Crows. You're the best ever!
One of their most underrated songs, it's one a lot of people don't really talk about.

This is my favorite CC song. I love all their music but this and Black and Blue really resonates with me

one of the best lines EVER!

Awesome song!!! Been a huge fan of it since the first time that I heard it

The best song´s ever for the "getting out"

I could say so much; but I don't go there, cause I don't want too.
That’s me and my friend from apple valley! Took me this long to remember him...
shame they didn't do this live more. I've seen them around 50 times in concert, but i've seen this maybe twice
" you dont know how i feel.."🎵🎶🎶🎶
This is still probably my favorite song of theirs, and nobody knows it.
John Barela me too

The most over-looked effort by anyone in the 90s. Someday a classic...
Still my favorite Crows song, with the exception of the actual song "August and Everything After " check it out !
Its on 'desert life' my friend!
If you havent got that albumn yet and like there youre in for a lovely surprise.
i have these lyrics written all over notebooks
I get so nervous, I'm shaking,
Gets so I got no pride at all,
Gets so bad, but I just keep coming back for more,
I guess I just get off on that stuff.
I'm thinking about taking some time,
I'm thinking about leaving soon.
I got some things I can't tell anyone,
I got some things I just can't say,
Well they're the kind of things no one knows about,
I just need somebody to talk, to me.
I'm thinking about leaving tomorrow,
I'm thinking about leaving on my own,
I think I been wasting my time,
I'm thinking about getting out,
Thinking about getting out.
In all this time,
The bottom line's you don't know,
How much I feel,
You say you see but I don't agree,
You don't know,
Don't know how I feel.
I'm just trying to get myself some gravity,
You're just trying to get me to stay,
Sometimes I sit here looking down upon Los Angeles,
Sometimes I'm floating away.
I'm thinking about breaking myself,
I'm thinking about getting back home,
I think I been waiting for way too long,
I'm thinking about getting out,
Thinking about getting out,
Thinking about getting out.
good video for an incredible song by counting crows... thanks for making this
Great job on the video. One of my favorite Crows tunes.
Great video man, captures the feel of the song .
@vilageidoit29 i'm the short guy in this video, this was filmed in cape town, south africa in 2006.
When this song came out, I related it to a boyfriend at the time but about 20 years later I'm now thinking of it with a job and being unappreciated by a boss.

2007… much simpler time in my life. Which feels weird to say.
Just trying to get myself some gravity
Counting Crows!!!!! I know everyone of their songs and lyrics.......published. I don't know Suffocate cuz never heard a version of it...
RUclips ads on Counting Crow videos are all about depression management. That makes me sad...sigh. :(
Thanks to the dreadlock who managed to write a perfect song about my so far very awefull, annoying, shitty day.
