What was it so special about them, Johnny? I have an early 80's SG2000 Black / Green two-tone (just a slightly later version of Big Stu's). How was the sound in comparison? They certainly look beautiful. I'd love to see a studio track-by-track break down of what guitar's / amps etc Stewart used on individual guitar parts. He seemed to use a lot of custom gear live, but I wonder what he prefered in the studio. Not that it matters - he could make a Woolwoof's 50 quid special sound beautiful!
@Tupperware61. Genuinely impressed with your knowledge of Stuarts guitars during his Skids days. Have drop by the Skids site sometime, sure there's a few folks like myself who'd enjoy talking guitar with you. Cheers: Alan C.
The Scots had a certain energy about them then, even their footballers were good, Liverpool were the Real Madrid/Barcelona of that time and half the team were Scots.
Sure thats a Yamaha Super Flighter 700.A rare guitar now and cheap guitar in its day.Didnt take Stuart long to save up for The Yamaha SG2000 in time for his later outings..
Wow! big apologies for my ignorance on this one...didnt know the difference between SF500 and SF700...I`ve had two 500`s over the years...since 1984...first had a tobacco sunburst..feckin gorgeous guitar!....now a proud owner of a very rare 1978 ivory white SF500..As for whats so special !!? It`s just personal...very similar sound wise, I`ve also got a Yamaha SG..but for me the SF justs feels and plays better..Hanx for all the info guys.
Saw them at Norwich Waterfront and Bedford Corn Exchange and were brilliant both times. Particularly at Bedford with Spear of Destiny supporting. Seeing them again at the IOW festival at the weekend. Can't wait :-)
Just watched Jobson some 30yrs later last night at the Alhambra in The Skid's home town of Dunfermline and he still kung fu danced throughout the set as they blew the roof off!! What a night, The Bigman would have been humbled at the awesome reception to his music,Holy to The High!
The Skids were a class act....they explored music through the late 70's and early 80's......they blew Magazine away....Jobson then became all Arty Farty....what a great band...how sad that they never really achieved the success they so deserved....but then that was what this era was all about....the possible...
You had to be there! Not silly from Into the valley he done variations. Try that in kitchen for a few songs. Show some respect. I saw them at 13 and i saw Clash,Damned, Sham and 100s more. They were fucking awesome band. dancing got me plenty of birds at time . So sshhh you wasnt old enough.

Did'nt Bill Nelson of Be bop Deluxe a great influence on the Skids play one? Bill has recorded a song called Stuart as a tribute to Stuart
Where the Kaiser Chiefs got their sound then.....
The Scots had a certain energy about them then, even their footballers were good, Liverpool were the Real Madrid/Barcelona of that time and half the team were Scots.
