  • I took apart an expensive $10,300 laptop was very intimidating, but I got to say it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be after I was done. The service manual for the Alienware Area 51m is very detailed and really helps by breaking down the process step by step.

I about hit the floor when you said changing the CPU was difficult in the 51m. Every screw is numbered. Every cable is labeled with pull tabs. The unscrew order of the screws on the heat sink is etched into the metal. It can’t get much easier.
You’ve clearly never changed parts out on an intricate liquid cooled PC or any other gaming laptop that’s ever been made, or you’re fishing for content that is blatantly BS. The 51m is cake to get to the CPU. Ive repasted and cpu swapped probably 3 dozen of them at this point. Whole job from start to finish is 12 minutes.
Also no idea who ripped you off selling you storage for $4,000 dollars. That much space, using the fastest drives you can buy, is about 1/3 what you paid. Quick Amazon search. I have a $7,000 mouse that I’ll sell you for $5,000- sound good? Then you’ll have a $15,000 laptop! New video!

Still waiting to get mine from Xoticpc. They're supposed to get the Laptops in this week, so I'm getting pretty hyped. Got mine with the i7 9700k and RTX 2080, Thermal Grizzly Cryonaut, Fujipoly Extreme thermal pads, Intel 9260 Wireless Card, Windows 10 Pro, and Monitor color correction. Other than that I bought my RAM and SSD'S separately. 64 GB of Corsair 2666 MHz RAM, 1 TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2, and 2 TB 860 Evo Sata SSD. I'll get another M.2 later on, but for now I've spent less than $4,800 by catching a few sales. Once it arrives Alienwares new bios update should be out bumping up the TDP limit on GPU and I believe support for 2666 MHz RAM.
I'll be a happy camper once I get it, been a long wait as I ordered it back on the 11th of March. I probably won't get it until after the 8th, but I did opt for 2 day shipping, and Xoticpc bumped up all existing orders on the Area 51m to rush status due to the delays on Dell/Alienwares part. I feel like a kid that's been let loose in Toys R Us, can't wait.

      @xaytana 4 года назад

Assuming he went with the 4Tb 860 Pro, that's currently $1k by itself. And with 970 Evo Pluses, since the Pros come in 1Tb at their largest, coming in at $500 each, that's only $2k total. And these are prices from Samsung.
Lets also look at the retail price for a 9900k. $500. Even tho he got a binned CPU, that's really not necessary, so lets not get into the price about that.
Lets also look at the top end system price, excluding the ssd. $4849. That includes both power bricks, 9900k, and a single 1TB m.2 ssd that ends up getting replaced.
So, under $7k for this system, plus you get an additional ssd. Is all the storage needed? No. Is the raid needed? Not really. Most people really only need one or two Tb of storage, which you can get away with that coming in under $6k.
I'm curious how well this system even handles a 9900k anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if the cooling system shits itself while attempting to handle it. Though, this would make for a cool watercooling mod, because why not, actually make it a $10k system.

At the absolute most, this is $7k, with $2k in SSDs. You can easily look up prices, I suggest doing that. $5150, top end system, has a 9900k, 2080, 64gb of ram, 2Tb raid + 1Tb sshd with 8Gb cache, which is more than enough storage for normal users, highest end display with Gsync and Tobii, with 180w+330w power bricks, which are more than enough for this system.
Basically, this is just clickbait and lies. He wasted money and inflated prices just to make an 'expensive' system. You can get away with more than enough for $5k.

@@TheMickyTDI yea and the same for the ssd, you can find it much cheaper but he most have gone "prices high to low" and bought high, also test have shown that theres no real benefit over stock delidding a 9900k so it just becomes wasted money by that point. I get even at over 5k im sure i paid way to much but i got a great laptop that will hold me for a few years and since im always traveling its perfect for me, kinda a home away from home thing. Put simply i checked it out and for all that he added on he could have had it for 7,500 to 8k so the 10k idk where that came from.

Lower spec system needed another power brick, since the lower spec systems come with a lower powered secondary brick. $2k at most for the storage setup. And being a moron and buying a 'binned and delidded' 9900k, which is a stupid idea for any system unless you have the best cooling and are chasing benchmark scores.
Basically, that $5150 top end system in white is more than enough for literally any enthusiast. This is just a clickbait channel, and the guy is a cumpulsive liar who inflates the prices he 'paid.' Not even that great of a tech guy, since removing a couple pieces of plastic, a heatsink, and a handful of screws is apparently too scary for him; not to mention he's probably also too scared to delid his own CPU.
And judging by most of the other comments, his main viewer demographic are kids and morons.

Don't know what is the purpose for this upgrade......, Even you get a i9-9900K that delided and with liquid thermal paste, but you're still using the Alienware Area 51m's air cooler, and although it is a very nice cooler, you won't get too much benefit on it IMO. What I did mine is order the Alienware Area 51m from Dell with the following setup:
    Intel Core i9-9900K
    8GB DDR4 RAM
    Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080
    256GB M.2 SSD
And that set me back around $4.5K USD (with tax)
Then with my personal upgrade including:
64GB DDR4 @2400Mhz Century Micro Japan memory ram Made in Japan (order directly from Japan, cost me $740)
    1TB Samsung 970 Pro M.2 SSD $347.99 from B&H
4TB Samsung 860 Pro SATA III SSD $976 from B&H
Roughly I spent totally around $6563 on this beast and I'm so happy and satisfied it at this moment.

      It's not even $10k.
Two 2Tb 970 Evo Pluses and a 4Tb 860 Pro come out at $2k. That 'binned and delidded' processor is honestly bullshit, retail is $500 for a 9900k, and you can spec this system with a 9900k for under $5k.
"$300 for extra power," is also bullshit, according to PC Part Picker estimates for a 9900k, a non-OC 2080, 4 sticks of ram, the three SSDs, and a couple fans, the system only comes out to be about 400w; I know the display, LEDS, keyboard, and trackpad will take some additional power, but not sure how much. Now for the stupid part, only the two highest end options come with 180w+330w bricks, the middle two models come with 180w+240w bricks, and the lowest models comes with dual 180w bricks; the fucking idiot would've saved money speccing a higher end system in the first place, not sure what the price of another brick would be, though.
And now the price of the system itself lowest model with a 9700k, 64Gb of ram, and 2080, in the white color is just under $4k, and depending on what display he chose, $4050, and that's with a spare 1Tb hybrid drive. Highest spec model, in white, is $5150.
Meaning the highest actual price would've been slightly over $7k. If he wasn't a moron, he would've saved money on the power supplies, and he wouldn't have been scalped on that 'binned and delidded' cpu. It's obvious clickbait, and lies. Worst possible tech guy too, since opening a laptop is apparently too difficult and scary for him, not to mention he goes out of his way to _buy_ a delidded cpu.
I wouldn't trust this channel with anything, even Linus' employees are more competent than this guy.
