    So glad I found this! This will help us widen the entry to the stall for a wheelchair transfer to a shower seat. That door and side piece really narrow the entrance and this will help

    Thank you for your video. I am impressed that you did not break any tiles. One contractor convinced us that tiles would be broken, and therefore, we must factor a whole new tile job into the cost.

    StarrTile I asked this question about a week ago and I haven't gotten a response so I'll try again. I'm desperate because I think I'm right, but my husband says I'm wrong. Maybe you can stop a bathroom remodeling war before it gets started. We're in the shopping phase of remodeling three bathrooms. The basement bathroom has a shower, no bath, and it's about 50 years old. We're taking out old tiles and replace it with newer ones. The floor will also be redone along with lighting and painting. Although the shower pan floor is ugly it's in great shape. While shopping, I picked up some pebble tiles for the shower pan. And that's when the argument started. I've seen shower pans tiled on my decorating shows, but my husband insists it can't be done. I don't know exactly how it's done, but I know that I've seen the before and after photos so I'm pretty sure it can be done. StarrTile, please tell us who is right? Thanks!

      I've set rock tile many times on shower floors...it must be sealed GOOD ! Both rock and grout. At Home Depot they have Prizm Grout that is GREAT for the large grout lines you'll have. Getting the slope right is even more critical with rock tile....ruclips.net/video/qbwtCBl_xDA/видео.html
      If you're asking can you set this OVER existing tile on pan floor, I would not...way too tricky.

      I think you just said I won the argument, and we can tile over the shower pan floor! Can't wait to take my victory lap! And thanks for the heads up about the tile I picked for the pan. I'll search for another tile that is more suitable for the space. Also, my husband said that the shower pan is not tiled. He said that it's cast concrete with decorative flakes. I found a picture that is similar to our shower pan although our pan is not nearly as pretty, or clean, but it has similar design flakes. www.hpspartacote.com/blog/spartacote-coatings-applied-over-cement-board-in-shower-systems-and-in-bathroom-floors/ So, it's okay to tile over this concrete stuff? Thanks again!

      @@TheBakko343 I've done quite a few bathroom remodels and was a licensed flooring contractor for twenty years. I would absolutely NOT tile over a plastic shower pan, or even over a concrete pan with an epoxy coating. For anything to work, you need absolute bonding of the tile, to the substrate. Without that, and being constantly exposed to moisture, it would delaminate fairly quickly. I realize this post is several years old, so my response is for anyone who may be considering doing such a thing.

    How do you find this model for replacement? What exactly is this called? I am having a hard time finding options when searching for repairs, removal, and replacement. I believe due to wrong wording. So glad I found your video as this is the exact style I am trying to figure out options for!

      I'm also looking to find parts for this type of shower but can't seem to find anything for it online or at the big box stores. I was told by one supplier that it's called "Fully framed swing door systems". But even that is not bringing up any results online for me. It would be great to get the name or model of what this type of shower is called or to know if there is a place where you can get parts for it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for this great video.

      You won't find any parts for this type of shower door setup ....it's custom cut by glass companies and installed by them, and more often than not cannot be reinstalled

    I realize this comment may not be viewed since this video was posted a year ago.. if I wanted to replace the caulking around the shower can I remove and recaulk, without having to worry about dismantling and reassembling the shower?

    • @stephen1537
      @stephen1537 5 лет назад +2

      I'm sure you can. Try it and see what happens. If it doesn't work, at least you know you tried. You'll have to make sure all the old calk is removed so you get a good seal. Best of luck to you.

    Recap. All I have to do to remove the shower door is remove the top brace? I'm only interested in it, because I want to replace the door sweep. It got old, started deteriorating, well you get the picture.

    Is it possible to replace just the aluminum channel in these shower enclosures? The aluminum channel in a corner of my shower frame (near identical to that shown in this video) has disintegrated.

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  10 месяцев назад

      I don't really know you would have to call a glass company but it is doubtful because those pieces of aluminum are specific of course to the year they were installed and finding a good match I would think would be difficult at best

    Could these parts be cleaned and reused, other than the desire for a new look? Just using new glazing cord and such?

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  5 лет назад

      Yes it is possible to do , i've seen a few homeowner's attempted , and a glass company would definitely be able to do it , but it is not an easy process that i would not recommend

    From the last shower screen you removed, is it at all possible for me to just replace the screen without causing any damage to the frames? My shower setup is pretty much the same as this video🥴🤞

    • @StarrTile

      It is very difficult to get a frame glass set up put back, because it is cut to size so your final product would have to be the exact same measurement

    Hey Bob, I noticed you have kind of old power tools (No offence). How come you haven't invested in more modern battery powered tools? Wouldn't it be a lot easier?

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  6 лет назад +3

      Power tools are an investment for a DIY'r...get best tools to last a life time.
      With most contractors we abuse them, throw them around, and lack proper maintenance, so if it lasts a year or longer I'm happy..then buy another one.

    • @a1glassmirror
      @a1glassmirror 6 лет назад +1

      I don't know about Bob but this contractor takes care of his tools therefore we use what makes our job easy. I agree with you Max. Using quality cordless onsite. Sometimes drilling hard tile is better done with a corded drill but where you can, corded is much easier. (sometimes corded in the shop where power is readily available and production warrants more consistent power and cords don't tie us down.)

      @maxplant6926 6 лет назад +1

      Im a contractor here in the UK and I would rather save up and invest in a quality power tool (Milwaukee) than buy relatively cheap tools and keep having to replace them! If you look after them they will last you for years and years. But whatever works for you! :) Thanks for your response! Big fan!

    • @JimmyMakingitwork
      @JimmyMakingitwork 5 лет назад +1

      I know in the auto repair industry electric tool batteries, regardless of brand, last 3-4 years tops. Corded or air tools last 10-15 years. I prefer different versions for different tasks. Best to have options and back up tools.
