Bravo bravo bravo bravo brilliance fantastic genial music and vocal
This is a wonderful piece of music. I first heard it some days ago on the Greek radio station "The Third Programme". I loved it immediately. And this performance is superb.
I discovered Chausson's Poeme years ago in the recording by Victoria de los Angeles and fell instantly in love with it. I have heard many other performances since then, (including tenors!!!!) but after hearing this recording by W. Meier, Muti and the Philadelphia just once, it goes to the top of the list in my opinion. French composers at the turn of the 20th century were possessed by Wagner, and this is one of the great French compositions in that vein. These Philadelphia forces capture the Wagnerian swells in the orchestra, and Waltraud sails over them effortlessly without losing a note. And she dies with the music in a sad whimper.......
I hope this is available on CD. I go searching tomorrow!
Ténor is actually written in the score...
It is available on cd. The recording that I have is EMI and the other pieces on the cd are Debussy - La Mer and Ravel - Un barque sur l’océan
