In her house...no audio mixer....just stopping in her Christmas decoration and saying "I'm going to sing this now & convey the emotions & feelings of this complex song"....DAMN. This woman is so talented.
The entire performance is amazing and I think the "rawness" of this rendition is really what propels it over the top. Particularly from 2:39 onward the emotion is palpable. Kelly is among the best at conveying the feeling of the music without losing the melody. Some musicians will resort to a mostly spoken rendition (e.g. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who certainly is great as the originator of this song), but I just love when a singer can truly emote while maintaining the melody. You get the best of both worlds. Kelly really is a brilliant singer and performer... in other words a true artist!
I've listened to the original so many times in the past year. I tell myself I won't cry. Then it gets to the line "that never used to happen before." I feel Alexander Hamilton's heart in that line so much. Tears again...
Wonderful performance. No matter how many times I hear this song, particularly when Kelly Clarkson sings it, it gets me every time! A beautifully written song, sung by a talented and fabulous artist. (Where are my tissues?)
Kelly Clarkson, you are amazing! When I first heard you sing this song, I cried. I admire your perseverance in your musical career and your song writing skills. You have a lot of heart and it shows when you sing, especially in this song. Thank you for doing this!!!
Our community suffered the tragic loss of a 13 year old boy this week, and this song has very special meaning right now. Kelly is just perfection, thank you for releasing this video!
Absolutely breathtaking. This one and sia's satisfied are the only ones I've been able to listen to so far but they've been amazing can't wait to hear more
😂 😂 😂. This made me cry, I had tears in my eyes. Don't know what the context is because I haven't seen Hamilton. But then at the end, I laughed right along with her. Out loud full and from my belly. Kelly is so cool! She's got such a beautiful voice. The way she controls it.... damn!!! I'm in love with her. In love with all her songs.
There are moments that the words don't reach There is suffering too terrible to name You hold your child as tight as you can Then push away the unimaginable The moments when you're in so deep Feels easier to just swim down And so they move uptown And learn to live with the unimaginable I spend hours in the garden I walk alone to the store And it's quiet uptown I never liked the quiet before I take the children to church on Sunday A sign of the cross at the door And I pray That never used to happen before (If you see him in the street, walking by himself Talking to himself, have pity) You would like it uptown, it's quiet uptown (He is working through the unimaginable His hair has gone grey, he passes every day They say he walks the length of the city) You knock me out, I fall apart (Can you imagine?) Look at where we are Look at where we started I know I don't deserve you But hear me out, that would be enough If I could spare his life If I could trade his life for mine He'd be standing here right now And you would smile, and that would be enough I don't pretend to know the challenges we're facing I know there's no replacing what we've lost And you need time But I'm not afraid, I know who I married Just let me stay here by your side And that would be enough (If you see him in the street, walking by her side Talking by her side, have pity) Do you like it uptown? It's quiet uptown (He is trying to do the unimaginable See them walking in the park, long after dark) Taking in the sights of the city Look around, look around, look around (They are trying to do the unimaginable) There are moments that the words don't reach There's a grace too powerful to name We push away what we can never understand We push away the unimaginable They are standing in the garden Standing there side by side She takes his hand It's quiet uptown Forgiveness, can you imagine? Forgiveness, can you imagine? (If you see him in the street, walking by her side Talking by her side, have pity) Look around, look around They are going through the unimaginable
Hi Kelly, this is your cuz, Kim. This is the best song I think you have ever done. I relate to this so much because of Chad's death. I loved Piece by piece as well. Kind of my childhood too.
It’s October 28th, 2019. Days before Halloween and this is my favorite Christmas song. 😅 Lol j/k. I’ve seen this performance so many times, I love Kelly. 🙏🏼:’) beautiful piano playing. My heart!! 😭 😭 😭
I litterally listened to this around Christmas, when my friends mom heard it on the radio and said it was a really good song. This was before I got into Hamilton, so I got really into the song. NOW IM S H O O K BC IM REALLY INTO HAMILTON HECK HECK
yeah, like 'because of you' and 'piece by piece' weren't enough. I mean, seriously??? What is wrong with you? There's just not enough xanax left in the world! :O
Why did she giggle at the end? This is a truly sad song that requires depth of feeling... last 2 seconds spoils it! After losing my mum this song impacts on me tremendously
In her house...no audio mixer....just stopping in her Christmas decoration and saying "I'm going to sing this now & convey the emotions & feelings of this complex song"....DAMN. This woman is so talented.
there are no words...a loss of a child is unfortunately a pain that is the composition of my being these days. I miss my son.
Kelly Edwards I'm so sorry :-(
Kelly Edwards oh my god. i'm so sorry.
Kelly Edwards I'm so sorry for your loss. Does this song help you in any way?
So sorry for your loss Kelly Edwards. I hope this song and Kelly's vocals can bring you strength and some joy.
pure raw talent is the definition of Kelly Clarkson
This is the best track on the mix tape.
Kristen Marie this one and satisfied with sia, Miguel, and queen latifah
First Burn, too.

6 years later and I’m watching/hearing this for the first time. Wow, just wow! So stunning ❤ love KC!!!!
Kelly's vocals in this is phenomenal! Couldn't get through this version without crying either.
Wonderful performance. No matter how many times I hear this song, particularly when Kelly Clarkson sings it, it gets me every time! A beautifully written song, sung by a talented and fabulous artist. (Where are my tissues?)
This entire song is sad but the line “hear me out, that would be enough” gets me. I’m not crying. You’re crying.
Kelly Clarkson, you are amazing! When I first heard you sing this song, I cried. I admire your perseverance in your musical career and your song writing skills. You have a lot of heart and it shows when you sing, especially in this song. Thank you for doing this!!!
email4dinah she didn't write this song though...
I am Deja pretty sure he knows. I think he meant it in general. and was talking about how her heart really showed in this cover
Imagine being this good 😭😭... 90% of today’s pop singers can’t relate
yet they get most of the attention ...it's frustrating
Preach 💯 drives me nuts!!
Effortless. Amazing. Love her.
Our community suffered the tragic loss of a 13 year old boy this week, and this song has very special meaning right now. Kelly is just perfection, thank you for releasing this video!
wow, i didn't recognize her. she's beautiful
Absolutely breathtaking. This one and sia's satisfied are the only ones I've been able to listen to so far but they've been amazing can't wait to hear more
Erin K they have released like 7 and they're on Spotify :D they're all perfect!!!! ❤
better than the version on the mixtape. So real and raw.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
'You knock me out, I fall apart' So much emotion in that line.
she is so beautiful!!!!
I cry. Consider me slayed. her vocals are life😍😍😍
OMG!!!! Your rendition of this song from Hamilton is supreme excellence!!!!
She did this...in her house! There are things word can't reach indeed
😂 😂 😂. This made me cry, I had tears in my eyes. Don't know what the context is because I haven't seen Hamilton. But then at the end, I laughed right along with her. Out loud full and from my belly. that little riff at 3:38 on the word "unimaginable" gets me every time
Kelly Clarkson, you are an awesome singer & human being!! Been a fan since American Idol.God bless!!
There are moments that the words don't reach
There is suffering too terrible to name
You hold your child as tight as you can
Then push away the unimaginable
The moments when you're in so deep
Feels easier to just swim down
And so they move uptown
And learn to live with the unimaginable
I spend hours in the garden
I walk alone to the store
And it's quiet uptown
I never liked the quiet before
I take the children to church on Sunday
A sign of the cross at the door
And I pray
That never used to happen before
(If you see him in the street, walking by himself
Talking to himself, have pity)
You would like it uptown, it's quiet uptown
(He is working through the unimaginable
His hair has gone grey, he passes every day
They say he walks the length of the city)
You knock me out, I fall apart
(Can you imagine?)
Look at where we are
Look at where we started
I know I don't deserve you
But hear me out, that would be enough
If I could spare his life
If I could trade his life for mine
He'd be standing here right now
And you would smile, and that would be enough
I don't pretend to know the challenges we're facing
I know there's no replacing what we've lost
And you need time
But I'm not afraid, I know who I married
Just let me stay here by your side
And that would be enough
(If you see him in the street, walking by her side
Talking by her side, have pity)
Do you like it uptown? It's quiet uptown
(He is trying to do the unimaginable
See them walking in the park, long after dark)
Taking in the sights of the city
Look around, look around, look around
(They are trying to do the unimaginable)
There are moments that the words don't reach
There's a grace too powerful to name
We push away what we can never understand
We push away the unimaginable
They are standing in the garden
Standing there side by side
She takes his hand
It's quiet uptown
Forgiveness, can you imagine?
Forgiveness, can you imagine?
(If you see him in the street, walking by her side
Talking by her side, have pity)
Look around, look around
They are going through the unimaginable
What a voice!!! Beautiful!

Best song on the mixtape right here? I think so!!!
@KellyClarkson this is the Aretha-take me to church version of this song. God bless you girl!
Hi Kelly, this is your cuz, Kim. This is the best song I think you have ever done. I relate to this so much because of Chad's death. I loved Piece by piece as well. Kind of my childhood too.

Wow, I've heard the iHeart Radio version of this loads, but this....great unplugged version, no bells and whistles. Lovely Kelly!

Absolutely the best track on the Hamilton Mixtape... Kelly sings purely from the heart AND mind💝

Holy Fucking Shit Balls this is fantastic!
holy fucking shit balls is one of my favorite phrases! and you are right...this is fantastic :)
ashell97 I thought I was one of the only people who used that expression. And the whole song is just beautiful. I love the musical
Kelly, you’re amazing. Lin Manuel Miranda - this song is incredible ❤
her voice is such a gift.... honestly better than the soundtrack... shhhhh...
I litterally listened to this around Christmas, when my friends mom heard it on the radio and said it was a really good song. This was before I got into Hamilton, so I got really into the song. NOW IM S H O O K BC IM REALLY INTO HAMILTON HECK HECK
I'm using this version for my performance at school. I needed to find one that didn't have the background singers and such.
I Love this song this voice..Thank you for this song..J2003Bg
Lin why u gotta make us sob everytime
Triggered bc they don't use the Hamilton names
Mara Barker right? Makes it way more relatable bc there's no names to remind you it's from a musical.
More relatable this way if it was to be on radio.
Nailed it ^^
I'm not a fan of her, but damn did she killed it in the mixtape. tons of respect
Kevin Davila How could you not be a fan of Kelly Clarkson omg
Nicest person in the whole world and so so so so so talented. She's amazing.
also, she has both bangers and songs that make you depressed
Missing out
Crying
최고에요~ ^^
It kills me everytime the song says: "I never liked the quiet before"...
Compare this to Andra day and Regina, Kelly is in tune the whole time!!
yesssssss
❤️
when she almost says toddler bcz she’s thinking about her baby 😭
I heard this song is on Hamilton
yeah, like 'because of you' and 'piece by piece' weren't enough. I mean, seriously??? What is wrong with you? There's just not enough xanax left in the world! :O
Fucking nails it
Why did she giggle at the end? This is a truly sad song that requires depth of feeling... last 2 seconds spoils it! After losing my mum this song impacts on me tremendously
she was keeping from busting out crying before finishing the song
She does a good job, but I like Renee Goldsberry's version better.
What brand is the beanie??
can i have the copy of the chords you guys used? hehehehe Thank youuuu :*
this song doesnt make me sad at all for some reason
I love Kellie voice and I love the words but I don't like the melody it seems all over the place without a good flow
🙄
this is indeed amazing but I find it's disappointing that she changed the lyrics. Such a disrespectful to the original song
