DIY De Mol English subs

- So I have never done De Mol, nor will I now be making English subtitles. There might be others that will, but if they are not, you can Google translate themselves. You can also get the footage and watch the show yourself.
Anything I explain here, might be different once the season starts so if that is the case, I'll see if I can still help out. I'm sorry if this went a bit fast as for me it all makes sense since I do it all the time. Just pause whenever you need to ;)
Please do not share footage online with a larger audience as De Mol own all rights to the footage. This is only meant for fans to enjoy the show at home and for their own use.
About adding subtitles to videos I don't know too much. I just know that once an srt file has the same name as a video file and is in the same folder, it should automatically connect. For other ways, please ask Google.

Ok guys, update. Episode 1 is online. But it turns out that whatever is subbed in the video itself, like dialogue, is not subbed in the added subs which you download through my method. So using my method, will only give you part of the subtitles. I never realized that since I never did De Mol before. So I know there are a few people who have done subs in the past for De Mol. Just follow and subscribe to them and see if they might have more info. Sorry about this deception and giving you hope, but I tried...
Why did u start doing de mol? Was it for english speaking friends or something?

I am getting better at my understanding of spoken Belgian, evidently. I did enjoy the episode, and understood some despite the minimal subtitles.

@@saluschtroumpfette3544 I haven't actually done this yet (but I think in theory it should work, and is what I am planning to try to combine the subtitles and video into one file).
If you play the video (with subtitles) in your video player of choice, you can use OBS (open broadcasting software) to window capture the video player. Then use Recording mode to output the file as .flv or .mp4. It should capture everything on the screen (so both the video and the subtitles being displayed).
If you've never used OBS it's free to download, but it does take some fiddling to get it to work (more than I can explain in a comment, sorry!). Best of luck!
The episode of the Mol België is usually only available for a week. This is what happens for 2022.
Ahaha... I sat down to try and do this today but the Dutch subtitles aren't ready yet (because of course they need time to create them!). Now I have to resist the urge to just watch it untranslated, haha.

Hi Marieke,
If you use the program "subtitle edit" you can remove the line breaks and have google translate full sentences (it also has a built-in feature for google translation). It gives a much better translation and will save you a lot of time correcting the subtitles. Afterwards you can easily put the line breaks back in. If you wanna try this out, let me know and I'll describe the steps to take in the program. It's pretty easy.
I actually do use that program. One of the perks of getting donations. I bought that from those tips. I mainly use it to move all subs at once when the timing is off. But if it can help with translating I'm gonna check to see how that works. Any longer explanation can always be sent to widmenglishsubs@hotmail.com. Any help is always appreciated

Did anyone try getting subs from last years season with this method? I tried, but only the narrator voice is in the subs, leaving large portions of the video unsubbed. (Got subs from npo and got the videos elsewhere)
I have the same problem :( Does anybody have any other tool which can translate the whole episode, not only the narrator? :(
Welp...It seems that De Mol is now copy protected and cant be downloaded via Gemist
So I have subtitles for this available to download part (the narrator voice), if it helps anyone
I'm currently getting 'access denied' for the subtitles trick for s11 e1 which is now up on npo start :( Hoping they're just not ready yet, or maybe they've changed the link for the back end ? :(
Give it a bit of time. Make sure the link is correct. So change that last bit, but make sure you keep the / and .vtt. I am getting a subtitle then. However, it seems that maybe it's not a full subtitle. Because they already subtitle stuff into the video, it might not be full...

@@WIDMEnglishSubs oh yes it works now i think the number changed and was unplayable earlier, now it's playable and has a new number for the episode. i was trying too early :).

Is last season available somewhere with the subs or did they sink all links?
I have never subbed De Mol myself, but there are a few channels that did upload some. Try looking for them on RUclips and you'll find some channels that possibly have them. A lot was taken down by De Mol itself so it's very difficult to upload anything without them demanding it to be taken down.

I'm working on it but it will take some time as I have to do it manually. It's not possible in this shortcut method as Marieke has explained in the comments :(

The subs were often off and straight up confusing, good you're stopping. Have been doing it myself by hand for my friends. Truly baffling you're supposedly and English teacher
What the fuck is this sentence my guy, first of all your way of writing is extremely odd. Second she is doing this for free and many people actually are quite grateful.
And that is why, as an English teacher, I never allow my students to use Google translate, because yes, it gets confusing and makes no sense sometimes. So I'm really happy for your friends you have the time to actually do them yourselves. I don't actually, and that's why my subs probably still have quite a bit of Google translate mistakes I missed in them. So sorry if over the past years I've been slacking, but let's be honest, no need for insults... And BTW, I will be back next year for WIDM, but if you have more time, feel free to open your own channel.
