    I've been wearing this since I was about 22. I'm 29 now and it's still my favourite. Works a charm...

    One of the best perfume in the world ever created.It is said if this fragrance is discontinued many men will commit suicide without it.Its base notes are so pleasent and incomparable.Using it for the past 40 years .Still have two bottles reserved for future.Caution do use it only on colder moist or rainy day in winter evenings and this is the best time to get its peak performance in dry down..During high heat it evaporates within ten minutes and vanishes.

    I love classic fragrances, it reminds me of places and people. I would love to see your take on how the Givenchy Gentlemen Only series compare with the Classic

      Thanks for the comment! I'm quite curious to take a look as well. Gentleman Only (and even the facelift bottle of Gentleman) are completely different to the classic.

    I have been wearing this fragrance for the last year and a half and was my signature scent for a while. However, since i am not really of an age corresponding to it (I am 21, 22 in July) i have to say that it is indeed hard to wear in my age group and far heavier character - wise in relationship to other fragrances of the time such as Drakkar Noir, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme and even the classic Azzaro Pour Homme or Polo green which is the nearest to it regarding its brittle and dominant character. But still, given the personality i have, rather different from thy of "men" my age, and the fashion that i wear (Pieces of vintage inspired denim, classic leather garments, plaid and suits) it is a fragrance i enjoy using heavily, even thou the patchouli note might come off way too dominant on it and giving a heavy aspect to the fragrance overall. Still, i enjoy heavily the first phases of it with that animalic honey opening, the florals and spices, along the nice earthiness and the russian leather note. Cannot really complain on this one. Still, for easier fragrances i would suggest:
    - Office aura but more juvenile and with a more developed leather note, easier to like: Gentleman Eau de Toilette from 2017, you should try that one, close to CH Men Privé but with less heavy spice, alcoholic and leather notes, far less animalic as well.
    - Dominant leather fragrance but more modern forward: Bentley For Men and BFM Intense, with intense rum notes and rich spices, really enjoying the EDT right now. Intense is heavier, more boozy and smoky. Hence, i prefer the EDT since it is more versatile. As a date scent, elegant dinner, nightime overall, or as an elegant fragrance overall, highly recommended. BTW Intense might come across as having drank heavily, that's another point where i would prefer the EDT.
    - Classic fragrances with rather close (Earthy honey) nuances but less aggressive: Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, i find the two to be rather similar but whereas Gentleman is heavier, leathery, warm spicy and heavily animalic, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme is fresher, aromatic, cleaner and soapier, completely lacking the leather and civette notes from Gentleman. I enjoy the two deeply. Greetings from Mexique, mon ami, Monsieur Charles Philippe.
    Best regards, Javier Santana

    Sadly the top and heart notes remind me of the days of smelling my grandmothers talcum powder in the bathroom. It’s quite rancid. I really don’t like that. I do Love the alluring earthy, mossy smell you get from the base notes into the dry down. I smelled this on my uncle several months ago and was massively impressed with it. I thought it was stunning. It had obviously been on his skin for a while for me to have had the impression of awesomeness. So I bought some a few days ago hoping to also smell as awesome as he did. I’m still trying to make up my mind. I really want to love it but worry it will soon be tossed aside into the abyss of the other failed bathroom fragrances I’ve acquired over the years. Time will tell, so far so good. It seems to have very similar qualities to Ralph Lauren’s green fragrance, which sadly has been tossed aside into the abyss. 😂

      It's true that older fragrances can be very polarising with certain facets of their characteristics being a little unusual by today's standards. Well, fingers crossed!

      Well...it's been approx *4 months* since your post...did it make the cut?
      This is a fragrance that either has a love or hate relationship with it, with generally no middle ground ;)

    Please could you let me know where to look online for the dates of each of the batch numbers.

      Hi Martin,
      I'm not sure that Givenchy or many brands communicate this information. Your best bet is to check some online forums and see if there are any particularly passionate enthusiasts that have listed them themselves.
      All the best,
      CP

      @@Bespokeunit I just bought this a week ago and there is a serial number on the bottom of the bottle that if you google it for instance "Givenchy 9C01" I found that my particular batch was produced in March, 2019. www.checkfresh.com/givenchy.html

    Fragrances are not tied to "position at work" "junior" "being domineering" or actual age of the wearer. No one talks like that. Givenchy Gentleman ads up until the noughties centered around romance/sex featuring models in their early 20's which were the target audience. Your skin chemistry, the amount you apply is more relevant.

    • @Bespokeunit
      @Bespokeunit  2 года назад

      We'll just have to agree to disagree - we definitely believe certain fragrances, due to their characteristics, are better reserved for different age groups. The suggestion regarding position at work was more related to age and stage in life rather than professional merit.

      It's certainly possible but it's quite a heavy fragrance even for springtime. It depends on your personal preference!

      Fragrances weren’t geared towards specific seasons when this was released. My late grandfather from Venezuela would wear this..I wish I could ask him how he enjoyed wearing this in the heat.

    What the hell does dated mean?

    • @Bespokeunit
      @Bespokeunit  2 часа назад

      When we say a fragrance is 'dated,' we mean it has a classic, nostalgic feel that may remind some people of a specific era. It’s not a bad thing-some love the vintage vibe, while others prefer something more modern. Givenchy Gentleman has a timeless quality that could feel a bit 'old-school' to some, but that’s also part of its charm!
