Roger Keith Syd Barrett was a true genius. Yes he introduced Waters to Gilmore and they all had their parts for making the legend in history and still today!! Syd was the original GENIUS in his own scene and London scene at the time. But the band never would have done the incredible things they did without his originality and unique style. Syd IS PINK FLOYD. Non-commercial and underground astounding GENIUS.
I know a few songs of barrett & i have seen his eyes, heard him talk & how he chased art & how he drove himself crazy. The whole story breathes genius.
Hi Jackie, David Bowie did "See Emily Play" on his tribute album "Pinups", which features songs by Syd Barrett, Pretty Things (an underrated UK garage rock/psychedelic rock/70s rock band), Yardbirds and others.
I finally get it now. I understand every lyric in this song. THIS, is Mr. Barrett's darkest song, and people dont get it. Well I had to experience what he just did. I guess thats what it takes to realize, so let me say, this entire song is about a terror trip. The lyrics, as mad as they seem, could not be more descriptive and direct.
For those people who think it's "The mad cat laughed" and claim David Gilmour misheard the lyrics, here is a clip of Gilmour singing Octopus in May THIS year; ruclips.net/video/gvt_qwqh9lY/видео.html

The lyrics and the way he sings it..... I am taken aback

I know a few songs of barrett & i have seen his eyes, heard him talk & how he chased art & how he drove himself crazy. The whole story breathes genius.
You met him …?
I simply don't care what the PF fans think... This is genius
Pf fans love Syd
I am a hardcore Pink Floyd fan bro , but I absolutely love Syd. He is just so close to heart, man . ❤️
Genius often dances on the knife-edge of madness ...
You really hear the influence on David Bowie in this. He was heavily into sid.
Jackie Mclean I hear some nirvana in that backround.. come as you are, true genius this man
Hi Jackie, David Bowie did "See Emily Play" on his tribute album "Pinups", which features songs by Syd Barrett, Pretty Things (an underrated UK garage rock/psychedelic rock/70s rock band), Yardbirds and others.
That is incredibly good. I wish this had been my era for music.
Awesome job November, thanks man. Such a beautiful piece. What a poet was he...
He was the Dr. Suess for adults.
He was a great poet ❤️❤️
Indeed
I love this song.
his voice kind of reminds me of eric idle's voice
YES
and old Eric idle looks like old nick mason lol
He's such a genuis it's like he invented his own language.
Syd wasn't born.
Syd was beamed to us from another dimension! LOL
A masterpiece!
love love love love syd barrettt in pink floyd.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond!
The reason why Pink Floyd ever could form.

The Madcap laughed a the man at the border
I’m glad I’m not the only one.
A bad trip as a trip like going somewhere or a trip like a mushroom trip ?
Have you got it yet?
just follow the tune as it goes :D
the master
Other than Bowie, my favorite...Syd!
Which is funny because Syd inspired Bowie
It's about being out of your head😊
Yeee you go crawaaaaazy?
Leanne W - Yeah, when did Syd tell you that?
What a tripping ride!
Reminds me a little of I Am The Walrus
Did Syd write poetry? He would have been a great poet!
Robert Olsen there's a book syd wrote included with the piper in mono cd.
I want to use that book with my lit students
Yeah he wrote poetry. You're listening to it
All of hiS songs have a very interesting and rich lyric content, he for sure read a lot
Music is poetry
Early Split Enz owes a lot to Barrett's solo work. This could be an Enz track from the Kiwi group's classic album _Mental Notes_
Surely it is till the octopus rise I.e. never
The lyrics come to late and end too soon.
Everyone who Loves Syd as much as I should check out Robyn Hitchcock!!!
Opening chords always remind me of Sgt.Pepper.
LSD have anything to do with it?
Keep an open ear, the queen bee song tune sounds a lot like the same chord changes and the vocal style Very similar.
LSD.
Favourite, e che cz con questi americanismi, li mettete ovunque, anche negli spaghetti!
Goddamn this is such a good song anyone know any artist like this? I need this shit in my life :D
Bleikr Sound - our early recordings. No charge.
syd barrett. listen to the album. also earrrrly pink floyd, (The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn) (A Saucerful of Secrets). You might like the song bike ?
@@birkinsornberger263 My two-year-old loves 'Bike' and sings it all around the house. :-)
Is this the song that was played on agt? Cause I didn't understand the words or the entire song.
*writhes
I wonder the meaning

TRYING to sing it. Lol. It's a difficult song.
@@tool_fighter Yeah, definitely TRYING to sing it. Gilmour has NONE of the passion that Syd has.
"Mad Cat" and not Madcap at all.
+warmswarm the title of the album actually comes from the producer (David Gilmour) mishearing the lyrics "the mad cat laughs..."
12rockandrollforever or maybe on purpose, referring to Syd....

I have no idea what the hell Syd was trying to sing in this song. I can’t find the meaning to this song lol! A bunch of words strung together
Yup,he took stuff from books as fillers, like the herbarisn band and mini kong!
Probably hoped some pretentious knobs 30 years later would try and find deeper meaning in it … maybe senselessness was the whole point
He’s talking about a bad trip . Its clearly there . Word from word.
@@cerealwithnomilk6984 what if she doesn't know what a trip is?
I hear BAVARIAN BAND not HERBARIAN BAND ..but I might be as delusional as SYD...I also hear OCTOPUS R I S E not R I D E....
a book of syd's lyrics has recently been released
It has a David Bowie feel
I have tried 3 times in 50 years to play this but its crap what a waste of money..
The mixup of words and meanings are not very pleasant...they m i s g u i d e people.....
