Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein - Color Trailer Experiment
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 25 июн 2013
- A "trailer" with music performed by the Golden State Orchestra under the direction of William Stromberg (also available on youtube). Animation and colorization by Mark Thompsen, Kerry Gammill, and Ted Newsom, all lovingly combined under the "Fair Use" clause of the Copyright Act regarding "Derivative Works" and parody.
This film should be colorized and released in October in theaters.
Yes, 2020 Halloween on a Saturday night.
Buster Coins but most theaters aren’t open
It's so sad that people who wat h movies these daze do not understand that Black and White film was used as an art within itself and is ruined when colorized. Maybe we should colorized every film noir while we're at it?
I know, what's a film noir?
Watched it again recently and it's been on my list of all time favorite films for over fifty years!
Fantastic! Universal would make a mint if they colorized this classic film....if someone doesnt like the coloration process..just turn off the color! And great effect taking Dracula 's reflection out of the mirror...what were they thinking?! Loved this!
excellent job removing drac from the mirror.
Great colonization they need to release this in color love this color trailer
The original music for Bud and Lou's classic horror film spoof..was composed and arranged by Frank Skinner.
I caught that too! Taking Dracula's reflection out of the mirror. Universal didn't 🤔
really great-hope some day they do the whole movie!
gotta love drac's gold cape, people always assume it is red like hammer or the later vampire movies bela did. I like that his is either gold or purple, makes it different
Lugosi was never in a Hammer movie, vampire or other. Lugosi' last film was Plan 9 From Outer Space. He dies August 16, 1956.
Hammer started movies in England circa 1957.
@@michaelkaminski8339 Lugosi was in a Hammer movie. Phantom Ship 1935. One of Hammer's first movie. I was also talking about Lee's red cape. And yes, Lugosi was in other vampire movies. My Son the Vampire, Return of the Vampire, Mark of the Vampire. We have seen props of the capes from those movies and it was usually lined red like Lee's. The original cape and the one worn in the Abbott and Costello crossover was lined either gold or purple. It was the posters that always depicted the cape in red.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful!!!
Loved this film as a child! Cried when Franky went up in smoke!
Nice work. Do the whole movie please
Looks better in color.
Razor sharp music track made my jaw drop.
The suite was recorded live about 15 years ago. A perfect recreation.
Nice Video; I have a mint condition 16mm Print of A&CMF in my film library. I remember when Beta & VHS were coming on the scene in the late 70's;Video Rental Stores were opening up all over. I ordered a VHS copy of this movie and had to pay 50 bucks for it back then. Didn't look as good as my Film Print but it was nice to have. I still have that VHS Tape going on 35 yrs and it still looks the same as when I bought it. So much for the video tape experts saying the image on Beta & Vhs tape would disappear after 20 yrs
Since none of the major studios are shooting film any longer; I wish Universal would digitally color and remaster this Film along with their Horror Genre classics of the 40's. Probably wouldn't appeal to kid's audiences of today but their are still a good number of Nostagia people out there that would pay to go to a Multiplex and see these old Universal Classics in DCP.....
so Cool!
Looks great. I think there is a colorized version now.
Excellent!
I'd love to see that in color.
2:31 it's a tie. Neither of them saw it. Get it?
The inside of Dracula' cape should be blood red, not yellow. That's according to the instructions of the Dracula Aurora plastic model kit.
💝💝💝💝💝💝 Love it,
This is one of my all time favorite movies. A little known fact did you know
the painting of Frankenstien
on the box of the Aurora
hobbie kit was Glen Stange
taken from this movie.

I would buy this if the whole movie was in color. King Kong also.
Although it’s hard to see, seems like Chaney Jr’s shirt is a midnight blue and slacks are dark brown! Does anyone see different colors?
So cool can you guys do the whole film in color pretty please
I guess to each their own, I prefer the original B&W, IMO colorization seems cartoonish and not natural in some scenes. It ruins the movie but this is my opinion.
Great work though, must have taken some time?
I guess nobody remembers this any longer but about 25 years ago, even before cable stations proliferated that catered to our every niche, there was a huge colorization program by Turner on all the old Black and White classics.
It was awful, received poorly and soon forgotten.
Thank God. 🤣
I would definitely love to see this in the theater. I love the animated look of the walk through the laboratory. What was the rationale behind that choice? I think that would look good (match well stylistically) in a reedit with the colorized Drac to Bat transformation. Think about doing a full feature -- getting that in theaters is one thing I'd write my representatives about.
+Carridine Poran - the lab-- I love that shot; the "technique" wasn't artsy but a practical one. I have to capture frames one by one then re=assemple them in order. I don't have the patience or ability to a cool animation like Kerry Gammell (the Wolfman at the door & the cartoon) or Mark Thompson (first Dracula/bat shot). The alternate version of this video is ALL in color (I thought I uploaded that version-- maybe not).. and hand-coloring something like 100 frames took an age.)
Well, it all works. Personally I prefer the choppiness of 8 frames per second to anything more sophisticated. It keeps the viewer aware that they are looking at a crafted thing, and removed from the strictures of naturalism, the imagination of the creator is more free, even when constrained by such labor intensive work. Thank you for that work by the way. I enjoyed its results.
You see? This is what happens, when kids get hold of Dad's computer and movie maker!
theskeletoncrewshows ... And then comment!!!
***** Sorry you don't appreciate it. You seem to be the only one out of 5,703 people, but maybe you're extra-special.
Ted Newsom Oh he is... he got less attention from daddy than the rest of us ;)
+ J Martin Those who can't be creative just have to belittle the people who can. If you can't contribute something positive please stay out of the way. 🙉🙈🙊
No fan of colorization but here it works.
color problem on Dracula’s 🧛🏻♂️ cape at 0:46. Drac’s cape should be black and red not black and yellow
Shouldn't the lining of Drac's cape be red? Apart from that, great stuff here!
You'd think so, but no. It was a pearl color in A/C/FRANK. Lugosi MAY have worn one with red lining at some point in the original Dracula, and his non-Dracula cape is definitely red in Scared to Death... but funny enough, it's actually the usual colors for high-falootin' opera dress: black tux and white tie, black cape with white lining.
If there's a clip from ORGY OF THE DEAD on youtube, you can see the original AC/F cape in real color, on Criswell.
One brief shot early on: ruclips.net/video/IKsoCQQlyVw/видео.html
Surely that was just because of the way certain colors stood in for other colors in black and white movies. But you can still make it something else; someone colorizing the Superman serials starring Kirk Alyn would hardly make his uniform gray and brown, even though it was in real life.
But it's your project, so I ain't gonna tell you what to do. The gold is striking, to be sure.
If I made this movie I would have added the Creature from the Black lagoon at the end of this movie as well
The Creature from the Black Lagoon was still a few years in the future at this point.

I'm not extra-special Ted! And I don't have a smart mouth like yours either! You put your video in a public place, and sometimes, people are not going to like what you do... It's a fact of life! ANY adult would take any critique (However glib...mine) and deal with it, learn from it or just ignore it! Your comment defending the teen-aged clown, who called me a 'Dick' (Really?) only proved my initial assessment of you and your friends!
(See above unsolicited comment recognizing you as a dick. Hey, if even total strangers recognize it...)

Actially, the real color was sort of pearl. I like magician's colors, too, ala Aurora... but that's not what we'd have seen if they shot in Technicolor .
@@TedNewsom it was most likeley due to "showing up better" in B&W, same goes for the Monster, Green because it showed up better in the original.
Nice work but I prefer the original and that goes for all B&W movies. But that is my opinion only.
@@lt4324 -- but Tom... the Monster was never green. Jack Pierce gave several interviews during the 30s and described the make-up as a special blend of Max Factor's "Sky Gray" greasepaint. Glenn Strange described it, likewise, as bluish-gray, and slightly different for Abbott & Costello ("... the sort of color aluminum gets when it gets old.")
@@TedNewsom sorry, but that is not what I've read or seen in other videos. He was Green in the Original. Many videos and documentaries support my comment. Thanks for the input.
@@lt4324 -- so Jack Pierce, Glenn Strange, Donnie Dunagan and Kenneth Stricfadden are all mistaken... and videos made 50 years after the fact reflecting unattributed fanboy guesswork are correct? Hmmm. I'd have to consider that at length.
