I'm a beginner too. The way I use tabs, are too learn songs. Keep practicing til I memorize it. Then keep playing it everyday. The more songs you learn the more you should be able to learn by ear later. This will take a long time tho.
GO BACK TO THE OLD TAB!!! This tab is too small, the old black background was much better looking and easier to follow. I bet if u took a poll on who likes the old style compared to the new The old style would win. Its a shame cause your an amazing guitarist and teacher.

Tabs are the way to go when learning guitar use websites like songsterr
I used scales first because i am a boring person :(.
