    I love Scottish interiors. They bring the outdoors to the inside and they so love their heritage. My wife and I share Scottish heritage and adore showing it off in our home. This book looks like a wonderful way to explore authentic Scottish style. Great video.

    Great review of this book of Scotland. I’m sure the warm colored interiors from the walls, to the books, rugs, furnishings, and of course, the fireplace would make winter a little easier to endure. Love the tartans and tweeds too. Always enjoy the “extras” you show us (shopping, trips, walks, crafts, home keeping) and the general looks perfect and “in charge” at your home. Thanks Mary!

    If my memory serves me correctly, this book enchanted me as I sat on the second floor of the best Barnes & Novle bookstore in GEORGETOWN now sadly gone.
    I always wanted to find it so thank you for the deja vu. I shall try and find it on line. My last name is Scottish. Gen looks fab!

      Hello Debora- I hope you find a copy. I think there is one available online at Abe Books. This is a source I use often. I wanted to also let you know that my great x 3 grandfather came to the US from Isle of Skye and he was a McCallum. We may be cousins! 😉

    I was surprised to learn that Tartan plaids were associated by regions rather than clans. I do have an affinity for Scottish culture and love bagpipe music,
    I enjoyed the shopping tour afterwards.
    Thank you.

      That was new information to me also. The book mentioned that family tartans were introduced when the weaving and dying process became a little less labor intensive as skills, tools and trade improved.

      After viewing this video a few more times, as I usually do, I realize why the blue and red plaid fabric on my dining room chairs go so well with my Wedgwood dishes. And my mother’s oriental rug gives the room a layered look. Now I have some new ideas!
      Thank you, again.
      Blessings,
      Janice

    I am always buying frames, recently four more in different sizes. I am doing a room with only gold frames at the moment. My best recent find is a huge heavy one that some 'artist' covered in blobs of nail polish after sanding off the original finish ! It is going to be a large mirror, I paid ten dollars and I will make the mirror glass with a spray. I do have an unused bathroom full of frames in every size and pieces of glass as I cut my own to size, easy to do.

    • @thetartantopiary
      @thetartantopiary  2 года назад +1

      Good for you, this is impressive. I've never sprayed glass to make a mirror. My mother in law has a collection of round frames and found a beautiful antique burlwood frame that had been painted...why?

    • @TheFiown
      @TheFiown 2 года назад

      @@thetartantopiary Spray mirror is fab to use and has so many possibilities. You can lightly spray the center and heavier around the edge for exemple and put a portrait engraving behind to make a ghostly image or cut out flowers and birds and glue them behind the glass, maybe add some hand painted details than spray over it lightly or not and that gives an 'eglomisé' effect. You can also lightly spray and put some old wallpaper behind. Many years ago an English friend here in Paris made eglomisé vases by sticking images inside vases then 'mirrroring' them although I have no idea what she used as the spray mirror didn't exist then ( ? ). The other day I bought a very ornate frame that was once gold leaf and now it's shiny black lacquer, impossible to remove (I might try all the same). Hugs from France x

    There are no moose in Scotland.

    • @thetartantopiary
      @thetartantopiary  2 года назад

      If I remember correctly Moose (European Elk) became extinct in Scotland long ago, but were reintroduced about 20 years ago on private land. I'll have to double check that to make sure.

    • @kermitthefrog3632
      @kermitthefrog3632 2 года назад

      They became extinct 8,000 years ago, so unless that one is 8000 years old it isn't from here 🤣.
      Moose aren't exactly iconic of Scotland... Canada perhaps?
      There are a breeding pair on a reserve somewhere... but I'm guessing they didn't decap and wall-mount either of those.

    • @thetartantopiary
      @thetartantopiary  2 года назад +2

      Wouldn’t you love to know the story behind that mount? The book dates it as mid 1800s and says it’s location is “No. 9 Atholl Crescent in Edinburgh”.

    • @kermitthefrog3632

      @@thetartantopiary Yes, it would be interesting... many of these people liked to travel around and kill things in other countries after they had obliterated everything in their own.
