"Matching cargobelts and quiver mega-clutches" is the most Rick Owens sentence I've ever heard. The fact that Rick was able to go from Babel to Larry in a single season just goes to show his extreme versatility as a designer. I hope more people start realizing Rick Owens (both the man and the brand) isn't all about doom and gloom and darkness.
I'm only about a year and a half late to this. But holy shit, Bliss. You did a better job of explaining the tower of Babel in two sentences than my English high school teacher did in two months. I am in love with the way you're explaining every designer (I'm literally binge-watching your videos) and I CANNOT decide who my favourite is stahppp!
I’ve heard of Rick , observed from afar his work & recently purchased one of his pieces. Now I’m an addicted RO fiend. The Rick experience is causing me to reevaluate my entire wardrobe.
What I'm getting from your analysis: Rick's ability to use mythology and historical contexts then interpret them into physical garments of clothing is what makes this collection great? Also doing so in such a manner that reflects the raw emotion and thought process of the people from the period from which the collection was inspired I'm probably wrong, I'm a novice but eager student of the culture (fashion). Recently found your channel, very insightful. Thank you

It’s annoying how these new aged archivist well "grailed archivist" share intriguing pieces and analysis and rare stories on my favorite designers via Instagram stories or a RUclips video and they care more about flexing about how much they know versus teaching people and sharing things that they love with the world because they love it like all the film analysis channels do with filmography instead of it being a LOOK AT ME I KNOW THIS SHIT AND YALL DONT type of thing. I get the opposite from you and it’s refreshing for me and everybody else who really loves fashion. Amazing video. I hope that you keep making Rick Owens related videos since I'm a huge fan of him and there is a lack of RO content on youtube. Can't wait for another runway vid. Would be amazing to see the past and the present seasons. Keep the good stuff coming man!
Thank you for recommending this show! My god, had me transfixed for the whole duration. And thank you for the work that you do! Love hearing your analysis and interpretation! :')
Great video, I really loved it. I have some ideas about what you said about not being able to place the denim cutoffs and swimsuit top look in the wider narrative of the show. You said that it might be similar to what Rick experienced growing up, and I think this is probably why it's in the show. You could say that fashion is a result of society just as architecture is, but with fashion this changes because it's so much more personal. Of course, fashion is used on a personal level to express ourselves and is something we build and develop over time (similar to building a tower). It's also one of the was that we can symbolically represent ourselves to others without speaking to them (this reminds me of your video of the Comme Des Garçons show- "what's inside matters"). I think this explains why the denim cutoffs are in the show, and they may have been an important event in Rick Owens life and give us a glimpse of the person that he was at the time. This may have been his beginning where he first began to think about clothing and fashion as they made makeshift swim wear by cutting their jeans. This may also be why the denim cut offs are the second look of the show- to give a chronology and perspective. From there, thinking of fashion as a construction of identity, it can be seen how the unique, bizarre, and varied looks in the show could possibly represent how everyone's personalities grow and change through life in idiosyncratic ways. This image became more evident when you mentioned the menswear pieces that had the incredible shapes supported by poles. You mentioned that some of them were so big that the models struggled to walk in them, and this may have been Rick commenting on how our personalities sometimes grow into things that we struggle to deal with and control. You also mentioned that Rick said that people that bought the jacket could insert the poles or not, and that they represent what the parka can be, and the poles representing hope. I think this is a further comment on how we choose who we become, and that there are many possibilities for us to choose from, which again makes the references of the show infinitely more personal.
You have some awesome thoughts here, thanks so much for sharing them in depth :) Comments like this are half the reason I make these videos. Please keep sharing thoughts in the comments when they arise :)

my bad I meant to say “Art” instead of “heart” but One more thing; chopping off the legs of pants is almost a traditional sort of thing Americans do when the harsh winter ends and things warm just enough to grab your scissors and Liberate your pants into shorts. The outfit tells the story that the woman hatched the idea in her head to do so now Rick just added More Lore to it because Rick’s a super Scorpio and knows the significance of the ancient material known as Water.
