Thanks kyle, as a solidworks user who then learn t splines in fusion 360 to design car, im glad rhino finally featured subd since im trying to learn rhino
Followed your videos back in the T-splines Era, moved to blender and MOI after that. Blender is still my animation tool but have to say this hybrid workflow is the way fwds! Brilliant video thanks I'll be upgrading my rhino license!
Excellent Tutorial, being new to Sub-D it is obviously extremely powerful, and your vid has been hugely helpful in encouraging me to dive in. Thanks indeed!
So im designing my first car with rhino, I used it mostly as a building modeling software, and I made the mistake of modeling a mustang gt 2020. When I compare it to your car, I see that modern cars have way more curves and it gets pretty hard to do the box thing for me, but again, its my first time. I do enjoy the challenge tho and i'm learning a whole lot of things that university never told me so thanks a lot !
I tried it on a lamborghini, awkard shape. For some reason the top and side view didn't line up(not even close), even though I adjusted the photos in a grid to scale using shift(I think I would have noticed if I didn't do a uniform scale by this much. Useful video.
keep in mind, a LOT of 4 views of cars on the internet are not even close to lining up accurately.. A great site for drawings to work from is called www.the-blueprints.com/
Hello I enjoy your tutorial if possible could you so a tutorial on how to design Car wheel and Rims in Rhino 7 Please. I'm just starting out with car models for scale collection and are struggling with the wheels
Thank you Kyle! Amazing content as always.. i have a question regarding the gumball relocate command and how can i use it without the hotkey and how can i set it up as a hotkey? Thank you! 🙏🏼
Hi there. I am coming from SolidWorks while I am still learning surfaces the hard way. Any tips or starting settings to try out Rhino for a body kit designing? Thanks in advance!
can you make a video tutorial on how to approach designing orthotics in rhino based on a foot scan? I can share with you a foot scan is needed. thank you for your time
Thank you for this tutorial. I'm studing Rhino from a few days; I want to make a replica of the Mazda LM55 ; is it better to model such a complex car using nurbs or sub-d ? I know this is a dumb question, please forgive a newby ))
no such thing as a dumb question... the answer is, depends on what you are doing with the model... for concept and early form finding models I love subd. They are great for rendering too. if I'm making a real car, I'd use Nurbs for a number f reasons, the main one is compatibility with engineering and tooling software.
for demos, I kind of wing it without thinking about usints much... when I was modeling for mattel I used inches, but it depends on the job and client needs.
seems like it should be, but the proportions are vastly different. The wheels and wheel arches on a 64th scale car would be comically large if scaled to full size, door cuts etc all have to be exaggerated as well as subtleties in surfacing have to be boosted in order to read correctly at that scale. The center profile is typically very similar, but that's where the similarity ends. "Looking right" is more important the "being right" in scale car design. That said, as the scale gets larger, the proportions get closer to the real car.
@@Rhinoceros3d nice. Great tutorial anyway. What do do I do after I've modelled the shell of the car (body). How do I add the details like mirrors, air vents, headlights, grills, badges etc. Does all the vertices have to line up with them or can I just add new edges
@@Mr.scarecrow1 personally I very often switch to nurbs for detailing as it’s a lot easier to control. I did a video called “when to use subd vs nurbs. “ I talk a lot about this exact issue.
very cool! who do you work for? I was very fortunate to work with some amazing designers at mattel for 17 years as a contract modeler for hotwheels. A big piece of my heart still lies with the die cast biz.. I admit I miss it a bit.

Another really helpful tutorial. That Gumball relocate and then scale to zero is so simple to use, love it (35.25 and 52.30).
16 places past the decimal made me laugh. Great teaching and communication skills my guy. Awesome video! 10/10
I'm so glad you liked it! thanks for watching-

if you own v7, grab the WIP of v8 and try the sharp command with subd, it adds a LOT of control.
@@Rhinoceros3d thanks ill look into that !
Excellent stuff Kyle!!! 😀Waiting for the Ski boot modeling video.
That is a good one, I’ll do some thinking… I have a Mac demo coming up next week.
I’m going to give it a go on a ski boot tomorrow in the mac getting started. Come watch the chaos!

what kinf of units do you use???

How to give this thikness to this model for printing
Offset subd is a tool on the subd drop down menu. Use that for thickness.
at 21:53 when I press ctrl it just moves out instead of duplicating - I tried pressing alt to no avail - any clue as to why it is not working?
just kidding i got it im dumb
@@callistoarlok5446 we have all been there.. :-) Happy modeling
Very cool :))
so you will create some triangles? will they be an issue later?
No, triangles and ngons are actually fine. I Just use them sparingly and only when necessary.
where can i get the design that you are using??
pause and grab a screen shot of the video... there is no good way to share an image on YT.
Sir please what really is the difference between 1/64th scale car design and real size car design? Isn't it same curves and angles all over?
seems like it should be, but the proportions are vastly different.
