These are the kind of videos I love. A pedal I've dreamed of owning vs one i can easily afford and buy anytime. Only just started watching but this is a fantastic idea for a video and I'm surprised more people haven't compared these two.
Thanks so much! 😊 The RE-20 is my best mate's, so I'd been meaning to grab the Nux to make this video for quite a while. Glad you found it useful, and will definitely make more videos like this in the future. 👍
I have both and they are both great, if I have the space il use the RE and if space on the board is tight I'll go with the nux, it's fantastic value, an sounds excellent
Ha ha, thanks for the preemptive support! 😄 Feels like I've had this video in the queue for months. Glad to finally get it done, especially if it's going to help people with making a decision on which one of these to buy!
That's a solid plan. Bear in mind though, that the RE-20 only just recently became discontinued, so the prices might start going up even higher soon... ...of course, there's also the other possibility that Boss might be planning to release an updated version, and that's why they've finally ceased production on this pedal?
@@PedalExperiments Thanks for the heads-up about the RE-20 being discontinued. I ordered one after I read your comment. Thanks for taking the time to make the video as well.
Wasn't expecting this to match the boss unit 4 times the price. I've been on the fence with a lot of nux stuff recently. Some new stuff that just came out looks great but my only worry is the build quality. From the comparisons online it's clear they sound great.
@@PedalExperiments ooh that's almost the same price. Interesting. I do need tape delay and I'm not really into reverb so buying a standalone reverb doesn't make much sense to me rn. I do like to run multiple delays and different types of slapbacks and the modulation stuff on the caverns really intrigued me. Also the modulated wow and flutter sounded pretty cool in the demos. Idc about tap tempo because I already have a DD8 and a crap behringer delay I bought a while ago. I bought that when I didn't know much about effects but my god that pedal surprises me everyday. I'll Defo get a memory man in the future but as of now I'm having way too much fun with that. Btw your demos are great. Thanks for helping me out.
No, as these pedals don't have modulation. You'd need either the Nu-X NDD-7 Tape Echo or the Boss RE-202 for a tape echo delay that also uses modulation, although if you're looking for lo-fi tape emulation, I'd recommend looking at the Bleak District Electric Tapescape.
I just stumbled across this video, very well done. I don't suppose you have had a chance to explore the newer Nu-x NDD-7 Space Echo in comparison to the Tape Core Deluxe had you? I'm trying to decide which one to get my brother and I've not found anyone who has used both together. I'm off to look at your other Space Echo videos!
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😊 Unfortunately not, as I sold the Tape Core a little while before getting the NDD-7. However, having owned both I can say that they both sound very similar to me. I'm pretty sure the NDD-7 uses the same Space Echo algorithm as their Tape Core Deluxe, so if he just wants authentic sounds in a simple, basic pedal, then the Tape Core is probably the way to go. But personally, I think the extra features of the NDD-7 make it a far superior pedal, and great value for money. I've got a video comparing the RE-2, RE-20, and NDD-7. That might be useful for you to watch? Cheers!
@@PedalExperiments - thanks, I ended up getting the Tape Core because it will easily fit on the board and he's not a massive delay fiend. I tested it out and it's really good sounding.i can imagine though that the NDD-7 has brilliant functionality. (Especially with the wee screen) Thanks again.
Back in the good old analog days I played in a band where the guitarist used an Echo Plex thru a 60s Bassman. Then I was in one where the guitarist used a Roland Tape Echo thru a Marshall. Those sounds were inspiring to play with. I play bass and enough guitar to record so I'm going to sell my Flashback and get a Nux.The Boss has more features but not enough for a casual guitarist to justify the price difference.
@@PedalExperiments Ha! I believe you. But if you speed up your own vid to 1.75 and compare it to the mentioned track (/watch?v=7gVzqxH4qag), you will be surprised!
fantastic! but what a shame the external pedal can only control delay time. I usually use it to control the feedback. this is the only thing stopping me to buy the nux.
The sound is almost identical, except the Boss RE-20 sounds a bit softer than the NUX. The NUX is a little harsh sounding and if I were recording something that would be a huge difference between the 2 pedals. I usually like to use analog delays for their warmth, and the RE-20 has just a little bit more. Very slight
Thanks for the video, maybe not the same settings on the boss re20. Hi cut on the eq repeats, too much high echo and reverb volume with audio clipping. Nux has not the reverb
You're welcome! Yeah, I'm sure I didn't get some of the settings exactly right, but I think I dialled them in close enough to tell that they're at least CAPABLE of sounding identical. You can add reverb to the Nux via the web editor if you really want it.
Absolutely! That pedal wasn't out yet when I filmed this. However, I revisited this shoot-out later on, once I had the NDD-7: ruclips.net/video/8cAaueGbuBI/видео.htmlsi=mmI5n9eOn4sNuigs
Why didn't you turn the reverb down on the RE20 to give a fair comparison of the modes? Turning it up even partway makes the comparison pretty much useless once you get past mode 4 on the Boss.

They sound more similar than two actual RE-201 units..!
Thanks for the shootout :)

Clicked "like" as soon as I saw the thumb nail. I've been gassing for the Re-20, but not the price tag. Thanks for doing this one!

@@PedalExperiments I still want the Boss, but the NuX is a very close second. Like, in a "buy the NuX first, then get the Re-20 later" kind of way.

Awesome comparison thx
Great video. Tape core sounds great ! I really like the tape settings on the nux duo time I just wish it was a multihead like the tape core.
Cheers mate!
I haven't gotten around to trying the newer range of Nux pedals, but that's definitely one I'm keen to pick up at some point. 😎👍
Really cool sounds here - really showed a great comparison!

isnt the nux tape echo closer to the re 201 than these?

Nux are fantastic. I highly recommend checking out their CH-3 Chorus, Mod Core and the Oceanic Reverb.
I was looking at the Atlantic btw. That's pretty cool but idk if I should just spend 50 bucks more and get a caverns lol.
