PREPARATION FOR READING 1| MONTESSORI PINK BOX 1

Using the pink box 1 gives young children the opportunity to practise decoding two and three letter phonic words into their constituent sounds. It also helps facilitate writing without the physical aspect of writing - word building.
The medial vowel sound is difficult to hear, so the teacher must give particular help with, and added emphasis to this sound, e.g., ‘b. .a..t’.
If a child repeatedly selects an incorrect letter, the teacher should, on another occasion, go back to the Sandpaper Letters and reinforce the child’s understanding. Also, be aware if the child is mispronouncing the words as incorrect pronunciation can lead him/her to selecting the wrong letter.
