      for the record, the devil is ABOUT independence and individuality and freedom, its a christian/media/pop aesthetic or propaganda for it to be all depravity and murder and stuff. scuse me for being 'that guy' lol, but i just wanted to help dispel some misconceptions, since a lot of people dont realize a satanists POV. ^_-

      Kier there are different sects of Satanism, Some believe in LaVayen Satanism ,which is the one that sounds the most like yours, Other believe in Theistic Satanism which see Satan as less of a symbol and more of an actual supernatural being worthy of praise. Most modern variations of Satanism see it as you do, but older versions are the more commonly known. Just know everything changes over time and with time came where you are now and your beliefs.

    My mother is Irish and I’ve inherited her very pale skin. I look pale as paper in photos and my skin doesn’t tan. I’ve often been told I look sickly and/or tired. One of my closest friends is Haitian and very very dark skinned. She was teased for her skin and was often recommended skin bleaching treatments. I think both our skin tones are lovely and that the world would be awfully boring if everyone had similar skin tones. This video is great.

      Edit Debreceni him I agree with your comment, we must also look at the cultural use of terms. We must look at how people define their own skin color. Ultimately there are only three races in the human world...caucasoid, mongoloid and negroid. Of course there are many many shades within each race. I think it is most important to use the terms that people use themselves. In this day and age, for example, it would be quite offensive to most Asians to refer to them as mongoloid. I am Caucasian. White. Pale. Light. Whatever you want to call it, I'm just me and that is the brilliant point of this video. We "intelligent" humans can often over complicate things. ☮️

    I'm so in love with this. I'm a 16 year old living in America, and for the longest time, I've hated my dark skin. I even used to bleach as a child because I dreamed of having lighter skin. I thought I would have a better life if I had lighter skin. It wasn't until when I was 15 when I began acknowledging the beauty within my skin tone. I can say that the influence of dark skin women like Lupita, Viola, Nikki Perkins, Duckie Thot, and many more encouraged me to begin the journey of not only love for my skin, but also love for myself in general. 👏🏾Representation 👏🏾matters👏🏾. I love this video because it applies to all who have had a struggled relationship with their skin. I'm learning to love my own, and I hope others can begin to do the same. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but it's definitely going to worth it. THANK YOU John.

      just a quick PSA about damaging UV rays from the sun. When our skin is exposed to the sun without sunscreen or any protective barrier, the sun's rays are literally penetrating the skin and damaging our DNA which is how cancer cells form. Our skin warns us of this damage when we receive a tan/sunburn. Although it takes longer for people with darker skin to tan/burn it is imperative that anyone with skin wears sunscreen.

    • @lolalover24212
      @lolalover24212 6 лет назад

      the other girl sort of got it right, but it has more to do with light physics than just "a protective barrier". The colour "white" is actually in fact a reflection of every visible colour that exists. Black on the other hand is the opposite, it is the absence of any light at all. White skin is going to attract and reflect light where as dark skin is going to absorb and not attract light.

      drag0nfly_girl no, that is literally the definition of race. Racism is the false attribution of negative based upon race/skin tone. Race is just skin colour. There is ethnicity, which may be what you’re thinking of, which is the intersection of culture and race.

    • @sumimaind
      @sumimaind 5 лет назад +3

      @drag0nfly_girl You obviously know nothing about genetics and you most definitely have no idea what race is. I recommend you to read a few books on the subject so you can understand that genetically speaking, we belong to one race: the human race! People might have different languages, skin colours, hair textures, cultures, eye shapes... but race, is one.

No other extreme skin coloration has a positive social acceptance unfortunately. Too "black", too "yellow, red, or brown often looked down upon. Skin bleaching is rampant in parts of the world, and it's dangerous and unhealthy.

    I wish I had seen this video when I was 11. I was bullied so much for being super pale. I had always liked my pale skin, entering middle school I was pressured into tanning because many girls were cheerleaders since I went to an athletic high school, even adults and teachers said it was healthy to be tan, even though I had known several family members that had gotten skin cancer from tanning. I never actually tanned since I hated the pain from sunburns, but I used self tan creams and I was orange for a good 5years.
    Now I’m 23 and I feel beautiful and there are many bigger concerns than my skin color.

True what he said, it’s very highly regarded to have pale skin here. ALL the skin care products advertisements here promotes whitening as one of a feature of their products.

      @@asmrhousemouse3157 I get pre-cancerous growths, too, due to my extremely fair skin and some nasty sunburns earlier in my life. I use Retin-A at a .05 or .1 strength (the strongest available) to get rid of them. Apply twice daily to the spot or bump. Mine go away in 3 to 4 weeks. I also get seborrheic keratoses, which usually go away in 3 to 4 weeks when I apply the oil from a capsule of 10,000 unit vitamin D3. My husband's went away when he started taking a low dose of D3 orally, but mine needed topical applications. D3 stops the cells of the seborrheic keratosis from replicating, so it sloughs off, leaving lovely new skin underneath.

    I am Black American and I go through years of lightening and darkening my skin.
    Ultimately, not accepting the implied cultural perception of darkness and lightness has freed me to just see my skin as canvas.
    I love my paleish yellow brown "true" skin tone and some times I will remove "sun damage"/tan but it's a lot of time and attention to maintain this base tone that inhibit my life.
    But getting into the sun and really pushing my skin I become the deepest shade of mahogany and while I love it, foundation colors are impossible to find but I don't need it.
    People in this day and age give me so much attention when I am dark. I never get insults like when I would darken as a teen.
    I've come to realize that for black people, but all sorts of people now their is this projecting of beauty on to me and other dark folks. It seems in the present life has gotten easier being darker where I live, I'm grateful for that. They are trying to unlearn skin tone bias and it's growing day by day.

      Probably the most insulting thing that has happened (thank goodness I wasn't there, I heard it after the fact) was when my boyfriend went out to dinner with his parents and visiting aunt and uncle. They went to Hooters and the uncle kept trying to get my boyfriend to ask for their waitress' phone number. His mother, who KNEW me, explained to the uncle, "Oh Daniel doesn't date pretty girls."

I don't think it is bad that you can make a statement if you so choose, but I hate that being confident and walking into the world fully embracing your "extremity" aka "non-conformance" has to be some act of rebellion. For someone so present in the beauty industry to have such a sensible, scientific and historical understanding of why we as human beings look the way we do was beautifully refreshing. I have your skin tone and I've never had someone be so helpful in helping me find products that help me look more like myself and enhance my tone instead of trying to change it. I've been bullied in the past for my paleness and I went to high school in an area where I witnessed people with darker skin tones bullying those with even darker skin tones, and it always made me so uncomfortable. It took a lot of growing up for me to be okay with my tone and I am so grateful for certain beauty lines that make nearly white (and very deep cocoa) tones, so thank you for making that such a large part of your channel. My mother died when I was 16 from cancer and skin cancer runs in my family, so I will have to admire other people's tans instead of indulging myself, but that's what bronzer is for!You are beautiful inside and out John, thank you for your voice of reason and idealism!

    I watch this time and again. I had to write this down for myself and for any human who needs this;
    "Society's opinion is not necessarily organic to you,it isnt necessarily yours. We must be careful of how much premium you put on the opinions of others, we must remember that humans change their minds frequently, you must have a sense of distance to the opinions that other people say. Sometimes people aren't aware of how insidious or divisive their opinions are. Sometimes people are not even aware of what they are saying or what it means. So, always be very careful how much premium you prescribe to other people's opinions. Another person's opinion is not necessarily fact or defining of you. You define yourself. You do you and then you refine yourself. It can be difficult to depend on yourself,to give you the encouragement at all times, to give yourself the love, and the nurture and the value that you require. You must be very careful when looking to others,looking to society and looking to ideas and standards for validation of either your beauty or your worth. Always remember you are a sentient creature, you exist this one time,just take a moment to look back at yourself and think 'goodness gracious I'm fascinating I'm wonderful' because you do only exist this one time you've been granted this body, this biological technology there are millions of cells at work,right now, all alive, all living organs, forming your totality of a physical being,that is fascinating, we must never discount nor discard the reality that we are, so every single one of us in all our variety,in all our colours, our shapes and sizes,are indeed valuable. We must not be afraid, we must confront our fears to embrace ace who you are. We live in a world that has been structured under the rulership of fear. One day that will change and we'll be led by hope and ideas and thoughts
    Reject, get rid off, discard any idea/standard/thought that does not value you as a being or encourage you to be more on the basis of what you already are."
    In the words of John MacLean.

    "mortals arent my thing" hah i love you. i grew up in rio de janeiro and thoug i dont consider myself all that pale i grew up with all sorts of nasty comments about my skin. i also live in london and was naive enough to believe this problem would be in the past. the pressure to be (now fake) is much higher, specially when i say the country i came from. thank you for your video

      Stiletto ́s Box The pain of growing on a tropical country. When I was in school I was the reference for pale, and I wasn`t as light as I am now, people would compare their skin to mine to see how pale they were (of course if they were close to my skin tone they would feel bad), I used to want to have a darker skin or tan, not because I disliked my skin tone, but I just wanted everyone to shut up about it. Now I know the dangers of the sun to my skin and protect it like something precious to me.

    I needed this!! I live in LA, the land of tanned beautiful models and I stand out as a gawky light-skinned four-eyed Midwestern girl lol. People seem to stare at my legs when I wear shorts because I don’t believe in tanning (I don’t want premature aging) but it’s hard to embrace who you are when everyone around you is beautiful with sun kissed skin. Thanks so much for this video, John. I need to work on my confidence. 💕

    I love this. I hated being pale through my childhood. Other kids made fun of me for being so pale and when I would hide from the sun, when we would play outside. I also had freckles, so they would make fun of that too. I appreciate all of your words, and your brilliant discussion on skin tones and what has become fashionable in society.
    I'm from an Irish family (first generation American), but living in the US has shown me that I'm significantly paler than the average person here. I have learned to embrace being so pale over the years, and even now seeing people like yourself address it makes me so happy. I'm tired of being told I should try tanning or should go outside more. I'm pale. I'm Irish. I'm not meant for the sun. I physically hurt when I stand outside in the sun. I literally feel like my body is burning when I stand outside under the sun. So those people can take their tanning and leave now.
    But yeah, loved the video! It addressed something I think about all the time. Thank you for making it!!

    As a fellow Scot with an equally whiter than white skin tone, I really appreciate this video. I grew up being called "peely wally" and I've only just at 32 years old stopped wearing long sleeves and high necks so I can smear darker foundation over my face and neck. You've made me proud to be whiter than white and your tutorials have been invaluable.

    Thank you for this vide, John. I live in South East Asia, where fair skin is still "better" than darker skin. You can be ugly, but people will say "at least they have white skin" which is sad. When I was 12, I hate my tan skin because, I am ugly and I am tan. So, I bleach my skin with those "fair skin" creams that didnt work at all. It only made my skin burnt, my skin became worse, and sadly, made my skin blotchy in color. I needed 3 years so my skin came back again to my tan hyperpigmentation that I hated. But I stop caring. And as soon as I stop caring, I came to love it. I love my freckles, I love my tan skin, I love it. The only sad thing in my country tbh, a lot of drugstore makeup from West is still incomplete, making it hard to get matching foundation for darker and paler skin. I myself cant wear foundation because the only shade selection is basically "Kpop Stars skin" shades lol.

      Im American and I spend hundreds of dollars a month on fake tanners . I tan my skin every other day. I feel like it makes me look thinner and more toned and also it hides imperfections more. I would really be nice if I could go to bed at night without putting it on and feeling uncomfortable.

    I am Greek! I live in Greece and I am one shade darker than you [considering the products/shades you normally use]. You can only imagine the comments I get. One of the worst was at the MAC store, where the MUA told me they did not have "Albino" shade in foundation.... out loud...when the store was full with customers. I did talk back, I told her they obviously had "Rude" shade in foundation [since she had a full face of makeup on] and left. But, I must say I was hurt. On a different occasion, someone tried to insult me by calling me Morticia. But I was so touched! hahahaha..... I said "thank you"! I am a grown woman, I like myself the way that I am. But I feel sorry for younger boys and girls who are taught how to be insecure. Even on youtube, the biggest gurus actually APOLOGISE to their subscribers if they don't have a spray tan. "OMG, forgive me! I look like a ghost!", "OMG, forgive me I look so pasty!". It annoys me. I also feel sorry to all the dark skinned sisters/brothers. They have to deal with all kinds of comments and prejudice. It's sickening. If you start a line....I will support you!! We need a makeup brand for the really light and really dark skinned. Provide them with foundation, concealer and contour shades! It would be a total hit!

      This video and the subsequent comments like yours has been illuminating to me. I hadn't thought about how different cultures perceive different skin tones. Or how people who have lighter skin tones are shamed just like people who are darker. I'm glad you told her off in such a *refined* way. No one should be shamed for the color of their skin. It's absurd.

      I am Spanish (my mom tans easily but my dad is a freckled redhead) and super pale as well. Growing up I was always told I looked sick or dead, and I started wearing make-up, mostly concealer and powder for my genetic under eye darkness when I was 13 or so because of that, as well as blush to look a little less "dead". I got so many comments growing up about me "not going to the beach, not getting enough sun", etc from complete strangers as well as my family... I cannot stand the sun and I have always LOVED my pale skin despite other people's opinions.
      This was in the 2000s/early 2010s when everyone was tanning like crazy and turning orange and wrinkly slowly but surely. Now I get complimented on my skin tone and make-up almost daily everywhere I go, and all the people who wasted money on tanning beds are wrinkly and look 10 years older than what they actually are, while I am always told I look younger, and have a great complexion, hah! I am about to turn 32 and have yet to see a wrinkle in my face :) Btw I can't believe that MAC employee was so rude to you... It's the only brand I have found that made a foundation that matched me back when every other foundation was too dark for my skin tone. If John starts a make-up line I'll be the first in line to buy it!

      Hello Tamara! Cultures play a BIG part to it. All over Asia, women are obsessed with whitening skin because the colour of their skin may affect things such marriage and work opportunities! In my country it's not that serious, but it all comes down to being and acting different than most. I don't know why, but it makes people uncomfortable! When it comes to dark skinned men and women, I simply can't understand why they are being told that the colour of their skin is not pretty. I adore it! All these shades of chocolate!

      Hola peculia!!! Como estas? OMG, those dark circles ....I've had them since fourth grade. Thank God that, at some point, I discovered correctors. Bobbi Brown makes amazing ones. I have also loved my pale skin, I inherited it from my grandmother. She died at age 87 with ONE wrinkle on her forehead! Seriously! I have ALWAYS followed her advice and did not obsess with tanning at all. Moreover, I have always followed a good skincare routine and lifestyle since I were 18. I am 35 and I don't have any wrinkles or discoloration. Nothing.... Not even around the eyes. Plus, I can get away with using natural brands and three steps only for my skincare. I will welcome those wrinkles when they come and actually feel blessed that I have lived long enough to get them. But NOT YET!! hahahahaha. I want one when I am 50. Maybe! hahahaha.
      I know girls who used to smear their face & body with baby oil and then sunbathe. The aftermath is NOT good. They ask me for advice now, but I don't know how to help them. I feel bad!
      As for MAC, I haven't stepped foot in there since 2009 ! Rudeness is more than I can handle! Moreover, I have light skin with neutral undertones, so they have never been able to match me. Their foundations look either pink or yellow on me. Not a good look. Giorgio Armani does a nice light & neutral foundation shade. Unfortunately, no drugstore foundation matches my skin colour and undertone. I have to spend money on high end! Sigh!

      Dread Mage I am from there and what John said is true. We got colonized by Spain and America, light skinned nations that held power. Soon the same people stayed in while the workers stayed outside in the sun. Therefore dark skin is for poor workers and light skin is equated to power, popularity and general positive outlooks

      well, commonly, the people here tend to like fair skin very much, as they seem to think it adds to one's physical beauty. i was commended for it as a kid and complemented about it to this day, but it does not have anything to do with my race. my skin tone changes due to natural causes, but it also grows fair quite quickly. and i also try to avoid sunlight as much as possible.

      Sorry but screw your offenders! Your skin is your skin, it is as it is. Period. Black, white, yellow, red or whatever colour of the rainbow. Making fun out of someone's skin tone is simply ridiculous. I'm also naturally very pale (as John stated 0 designed for the Norther Hemisphere, with strong Slavic heritage ) and I also got comments as ghost or if I was alright since I looked so sickly but I never got those comments close to heart. So you do you and enjoy life!
