      @@alejandro94zav they don't have bad teeth. White teeth don't mean healthy. White just become a foreign thing that people shove into people face. In fact if you have naturally white shiny teeth, there is a big problem with your health. If you have crooked teeth there is nothing bad in it, it's bad when it's make you feel pain and can't eat. Straight and white teeth are just something for the aesthetic.
      In Japan it's more important to have them healthy than perfect shine and unhealthy.

  • @tusaki

    Some things are similar in Finland and some different.
    - Due to genetics, many (but not all) Finns are less hairy and smelly and also modest about use of perfumes etc. It's maybe not the first thing to point out though, except for people who are allergic to perfumes and have a tough time in public transports. Shaving or not shaving facial hair is a personal choice and so are tattoos and piercings, and that's it.
    - Don't be rude.
    - Be respectful when asking something from strangers and don't be persistent if they can't help you out. Also listening and understanding what you are actually being told is important. Every word is intentional and there is less talking just for the sake of talking. The big difference to Japan is that Finns are very laidback and unformal and being very formal can be considered an unattractive trait, but many Finns love Japanese people anyway and get along well.
    - Some women/men prefer manly men, others don't. I think in general a certain kind of balance is prefered. This is more about the body type, but the more toxic macho kind of behaviour is looked down upon. A real Finnish man proves himself with action, loyalty and respect and not big empty words.

      @@bento4876 Yes, there are similarities particularly in pronounciation in the way that everything is spoken exactly like its written and particularly vowels are not turned into something else depending on their context or where they are placed in a word, as is the case in many other languages. I first went to Japan in August 2005, and it was the first time I'd been somewhere baking hot AND really humid. The result was sweating like I'd never sweated in my life. People on the metro would avoid sitting next to me, and I don't blame them. What Iearned very quickly (other than pacing myself more so I wasn't trying to walk several miles a day like I would on a holiday in Europe) was the showering twice a day thing. I also learned that it's best to change you clothes in the evening, before going out, rather than in the morning. If you change in the morning, and you will be going out in the evening in the clothes you've turned in a sweat sponge during the day, and you won't be very popular. If you change in the evening, you'll have a night out if fresh clothes, and they won't be too bad to wear in the daytime the next day.

    Ride a Tokyo train on any Friday or Saturday night and you'll know it's not true that Japanese don't smell. The air will be thick with the odor of incompletely metabolized alcohol. It's a distinctive and pungent smell, and it apparently results from the fact that Japanese, and possibly Asians in general, lack the main enzyme responsible for breaking down alcohol in the body (alcohol dehydrogenase?). And you'll probably also see a lot of very red faces, also a consequence of poorly metabolized booze.
    And then there's the train-emptying salaryman souffle that you'll occasionally encounter on a weekend if you're unlucky. So if you see an empty car on a train pulling up the station on the Yamanote Line, DON"T GET ON IT. It's empty for a good reason.

    Wait I second so this is what I saw being filmed while I was here. I definitely did make a few mistakes following lines and probably other things(It’s my first time here and literally I’m constantly watching what I do, and it’s TERRIFYING). However, I’ve been here for 10 days(6 left) and I absolutely love it here. It definitely teaches you something about discipline, respect, and politeness, which unfortunately the US is known to be very estranged to. I will definitely book another trip here for next year. Highly recommend traveling here. Just don’t be an idiot. First timers, you will make mistakes (already learned that the hard way), but getting mad and frustrated about it will only make you look worse. Also, STUDY JAPANESE. It may sound like a lot to ask for, but it really isn’t. If you don’t know how to conversate in Japanese, at least learn enough to get you around, or to do something as simple as ordering food. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it’s something you should definitely consider before ever coming here. Also, I’m already guilty of this one, but refrain from texting or any of that bs while you’re out in public. It’s highly distracting and it will definitely get you in a lot of trouble.

    I can respect the “giving people their room”. From what I’ve seen and heard, in these unprepared interviews and such, is that Japanese people are very petulant and shallow. They completely judge a book by its cover and refuse to open it; a pretty cover doesn’t mean the book will be any good. That was obviously a metaphor, totally making up your mind about people based only on their appearance is just flat-out stupid! As for the ladies first, it saddens me that Japanese men DON’T do that. 😔

    • @bostontracy5151
      @bostontracy5151 5 лет назад +3

      Smile Regarding the shallow petulance, it doesn’t really matter if they were Patriarchal, Matriarchal, Socialistic, Communistic, etc. The value of the people in things as petty as physical appearances is determined by valuing outside opinions far above their own. The government would have very little to do with that, unless wearing very specific clothing/face paint got you food, shelter, money, and/or status. In doing that, you could very easily make fakes and you’d suddenly be seemingly a much higher class. Regular people would respond accordingly.

    The reason people smell bad while sweating is because of the apocrines. It appears to exist three types - if I'm not mistaken - and one in particular produces de substances that the various types of bacteria likes. Those bacteria are responsible for the bad smell as the resulting substance is smelly; and there are various different types of bad smell!
    I don't have the link but there are researches showing that almost 100% of black skinned people have this particular apocrine. Whites revolves around 80% while Japanese comprises of 20%. Koreans were found almost not have it, resulting in a big, fat round 0%! This explain their excellent nose for bad smell coming from foreigners.

    •  5 лет назад +2

      @Vert Trev you are completely wrong.
      Scientific example: the quantity of such glands is different from one person to another. The quantity of pores influences as well.
      Personal example: I take at least three baths a day - nothing different from many Brazilians. Deodorants that should last for a day or two doesn't work for me. In some cases, I need to apply from half an hour to half an hour if I so wish to not have bad smells.
      Another thing you are wrong about: assuming the mouth bad smells are caused by the very same substances coming from bacteria. Because they are not. And despite having bad hygiene regarding their mouth, you get used to such bad smells if you live with it everyday. You brain starts to ignore.
      If you don't believe me, that's okay. Just research for yourself in papers available worldwide.

    The smell thing is a physical difference. Japanese (and other Asian) people's skin does not produce so much oily sweat as westeners. Bacteria favour the western sweat type therefore multiply more and cause the smell. You can tell if you have this oily kind of sweat it you produce lots of ear wax. Japanese type people have dry flaky stuff in their ears where westerners tend to have thick greasy wax. 😁
    Here's a question...Do Japanese teens suffer from acne the same way westerners do??

    • @adriannechikawotablog5466

      Yes, they do. I'm Asian myself and all Asians do have acne. Some of my Japanese male friends still suffer acne and they're in their late 20s. We're not at all that perfect.

    These are my personal observations in Canada: Never allow a door to close in summons face that is rude and poor manners especially if its an elder or disabled person. You can either hold the door open for the person behind you if they look like they need help OR you can hold the door until the next person behind you puts their hand on the door to hold it open for themselves to go through. Also men who are overly flowery with compliments to women is something that can be off putting. And men you like to man spread their legs when sitting and infringe on a another's personal space. this mostly happens in the subways. I believe it's similar to the Japanese concept of removing backpacks from your shoulders when on public transportation so as not to impede on someone else's personal space or hit them while standing. Also being boisterous can be overwhelming for many. That's JMHO. Great video & guests today. Have a lovely day :}

    That's a way to sugar coat the real reason, look at the Japanese pro wrestlers and many masculine actors like Mokomichi, Mifune, Sanada, Yakusho, Chiba etc. They are loved there and they are way more masculine than these foreign nerds trying to tell themselves they aren't like because they are "masculine".
    That is a cop out for a foreigner in Japan who isn't having success and may want to tell himself that it's just because he is too awesome/manly etc. It's not as harsh as accepting that you aren't liked because you are just an average looking foreigner which isn't considered attractive in Japan. Generally when Japanese think of attractive foreigners, they are thinking of Hollywood actors, your average western guy though is considered undesirable by most Japanese people. Sorry if this triggers anyone, if telling yourself it's because your average ass is too "masculine" helps you cope more, then power to you.
    The purpose of this channel though is to flatter the western audience, that's why it's subtitles and even the main titles of the video are in English as well as the description and most in the comments. The channel tries to appease it's main fanbase which are western viewers, so such silly videos are made constantly like "Are Japanese jealous of foreigners", "Japanese girls suck", "Japanese want to marry foreigners", "Japanese girls worship you", "Japanese men worship foreign women" etc etc. Heck Yuta is even more blatant about it, he literally has links in all his descriptions trying to get his western sucker fans to buy his e-book about how to date a Japanese person. lol

    • @elisnovat3955
      @elisnovat3955 5 лет назад +3

      A large portion of the people interviewed are rather eccentric looking Japanese also, part of certain sub-cultures. Sorry to let people down, but how these videos are generally made is this.
      1. This girl thinks up a type of video she wants to make, one that will please her western audience.
      2. She goes out there on the street, generally interviews eccentric looking people that by their dress, hair and fashion sense are more often going to give her answers in line with her video idea.
      3. She then makes the compilation on her computer and doesn't include people she talked to that didn't give her the responses she wants for the video. Renders the video, uploads it to youtube with a typical title to excite her western fans.
      These videos have helped to feed delusions into many reject losers such as on sites like 4chan etc, they look at these videos and become convinced they will marry a JAV idol looking woman one day etc. These videos do indeed affect some less educated people who may see one and then assume the person talking in it represents Japan.
      If anyone reading this actually is curious about actual Japan, go and look at channels in Japanese. You will find a very different view, Japanese speaking to Japanese is very different.
      Yet Japanese asked a loaded question by a gaijin (which this channel is) is a totally different situation.
      Another channel is Asian Boss, now Asian Boss even though for westerners, it actually is a bit more objective and real than these channels like this. Asian boss still will portray a slightly pro-western view as it's for western consumers, but it isn't anywhere near as ridiculous as the videos this channel puts together.
      But again, learn basic Japanese or try to use automatic translation on actual Japanese videos. You will find very different views, you will find that most Japanese aren't as hot on foreigners as this channel tries to portray. Sorry

    • @elisnovat3955
      @elisnovat3955 5 лет назад +1

      That is another tactic she uses as well, if she can spot a hafu she nearly always interviews them. They are so frequent in her videos, yet in the real streets of Tokyo they are not common at all. Of course a hafu is more likely to give a pro-western answer, that's why she interviews them.
      ruclips.net/video/Z_Qh4RO9gew/видео.html
      There is a hafu on the thumbnail.
      ruclips.net/video/QNbabCMTFzw/видео.html
      Another on the right in that thumbnail. And around a third of all of this channels videos have her talking to blatant 100% Gaijin. If you were to base this channel on the composition of Japan, then you would assume at least a quarter of the people walking around are Gaijins. Though the reality is nothing like that, in reality not even a quarter of the people at Tokyo airport are Gaijins. lol
      And when walking the streets of Tokyo, you will see a foreigner generally around 1 out of every 50th person. And if you go into outskirts area it's more like 1 out of every 200th person at most.
      This is the real reality of Japan.
      I know this channel is BS first hand as I have dozens of Japanese friends and have showed it to many of them, and I have lived in Tokyo myself. The portrayal on this channel is totally absurd, and it's purpose is to try to suck the nuts of it's western fan base which provide the views and revenue thus for the channel. That's very lowly, even if it's a gaijin woman who runs it (I still expect better from her even if she is a gaijin).
      The only channel which rivals this channel in being shameless panderers to their western fanbase is Yuta's channel, where he literally went around with pictures of some skinny average Japanese guy like himself (to portray Japanese men) and then a comparison picture of literally a picture of a ripped western model like Channing Tatum to represent western men and tried to ask girls which one they like more. That had to be the most ridiculous video and dishonest shit I have ever seen. Using an extreme western example which makes up maybe only 2% of western men at the most, then comparing that to a picture of some Japanese runt like Yuta with his shirt off who even in Japan is actually a beta. So dishonest.

      Be it in person or on dating apps.
      Especially because there are few big/muscular/manly looking guys there nowadays.
      Regardless on the place on earth you can't go wrong with looking that way.
      Some insecure women will say they prefer skinny guys, the truth is that big arms work everytime.
      I'm not speaking about "steroid jacked", just regular "I've trained with consistency for several years".
      Be fit and buff gents, it's always a plus.
      Remember, wome want men who are clearly superior physically. Not the other way around. That's basic biology. Don't listen to BS advices by whimps with no clue with women. Become more, never less.

    TBH, I was expecting "being an otaku" as one of the responses; considering the most-likely-negative views about otakus there. Then again, it should be the same for the rest of the world; because as far as I can see, anime still doesn't seem to have quite the acceptance (unlike, say, K-Pop or any local drama show that you have on your local TV stations) and are still seen as "childish."

    I'm from Argentina and it's like the complete opposite (which I hate) and I actually think this apply to almost every place on Latin America.
    Like for example.. you will be impopular if you're quiet, if you are too respectful, if you're not so "manly", and even you probably could have a hard time trying to make friends if you don't listen to national (or at least hispanic) music, even the deodorant thing, it's so normal here to use strong smells. Oh and of course, we're extremely direct, but I think that's almost a west thing, not just a Latin America one.

    By using the pronoun "we", it seems like they are speaking on everyones behalf. This is a common trend in the rhetoric of some Japanese citizens which can be speculated to be more rare for a person who grew up in what is generally called "Western Civilization" to use in their vernacular.

    Japanese don't smell...yeah, I've met and talked to plenty of Japense people, I speak a little bit, thus recognise the language instantly. Japanese people defintely have their own smells, every single human on earth has a smell. I'm not sure whether it's them having eaten local food, but here when I'm close to Japanese people, they defintely have their own smells. Actually now thinking about this subject, I remember there were these 2 Japanese sisters at my school, the older one was in the same year though in a different class, I sometimes talked to her and yeah she had her own smell. One thing I do notice when I travel, in every country people have different smells.

    The reason they dont smell is probably they dont consume much oily food, just guessing :) There is a term in Japan called "skinny macho" for men. Skinny but toned and muscular. I like skinny macho but not macho macho LOLOL anyway huge biceps on men tend to be a problem especially when they buy clothes and cant fit into the sleeves or bulging in sleeve / arm area, its doesnt look nice. Unless they wear sleeveless all the time but in Japan very few people do that.

    Have to agree with the comments here. Japanese seemed to have evolved to handle the heat and humidity well. Not sure about other ethnic groups, but with native northern European ethnic group roots obviously evolved to handle cold weather and lack of sunlight rather than the opposite and tend to sweat more, smell more from that, and sunburn much faster. Japan, including Tokyo, is humid af during the summer. Not that no Japanese smell bad in the summer, just seems less common and most are not wearing deodorant or anti-perspirant, they barely sell any in their cosmetic goods stores.

Plenty of Japanese smell like cigarettes, like they bathed in perfume, just ate squid snacks, and the geeks have that international sweat smell. Tattoos and odd piecings are definitely frowned upon cause they're connected to the Yakuza (mafia) and rebellious people. Muscular guys are not so popular either nor guido like guys.
