- Protests in Haiti this week have turned the spotlight on gang violence engulfing the country.
Powerful groups now control vast areas of the capital Port Au Prince.
Jimmy Cherizier, also known as Barbecue, is one of their most high-profile leaders.
He spoke exclusively to Al Jazeera about the crisis.

You are right. The haiti problems is the American. They keep putting puppets on power to have fully control on haiti. They don't want us to be free. Every time we have a good one, they do everything to diss him,using the media, gangs , corrupted politicians and so one. For using your 5 years peacefully a haitian president should make all Americans wishes. If not, they will down you in a second.
Especially white foreigners that have their own interest and have caused the problems.

No this is a panned coordinated attacks because out of nowhere in the same week three different main stream news, outlets published in interview with a barbecue and they all are titled gang leader! That is not helping Haiti especially when barbecue is not a gang leader he is someone trying to keep western interest out and have Haiti treated like any other nation in the Caribbean and around the world but Canada in the US want to keep Haiti impoverished for them to keep their sweatshops in Haiti have their pharmaceutical companies for them to test drugs on the improvisations, rather than simply clean up the country, which is way easier than infecting people with test drugs’. Please do not support these type of interviews with Haiti because what they’re doing is making a reason for them to invade our country

What's the rationale for calling them gangs instead of rebels? Do they have connections to crimes unrelated to their opposition to government?
There not gangs more like militias or paramilitary.
They can't be Rebels, because they are not at war.

No where did I hear that they wanted to overthrow the government.

Gangs are about survival. They setup territories or borders to keep conflict with other gangs down.
They do not have the firepower nor the will and organization to take on the government. They are survivalist by nature.
They start as an alternative to the establishment. Because they feel that there needs are not being met by the establishment.
They just happen to be criminal activities to survive.
They are a group of males with an established leader that has taken control over a territory and participates in nefarious activities such as killing police officers and innocent people, raping women and children, and hoarding food and water from people who aren't "rebels". Referring to them as gangs is much more palatable than the more appropriate terms like beasts or savages.

I cringed when Diego expressed such ignorance on his theory about Haiti. Research around Haiti is tough because the lies about the causes of turmoil in Haiti are being perpetuated by those who control media, thus control the narrative of Haiti. People like Diego are and have been regurgitating the half truths and psychological manipulating-inaccuracies on Haiti.
Even calling cherizier a gang leader is a form of spin, in his mind at least, hes a revolutionary. He said he would sooner shoot himself then lead a gang. That said, I'm not defending him, it's a game of he said she said, but presenting him as simply a criminal just because the government calls him one is onesided
