- An AMC Gremlin started us out on a Gr8 metal detecting adventure. On this day Mike and I metal detected a new permission hoping to find an old colonial homesite, gold and silver coins and any other artifacts we might be lucky enough to stumble across. We started out near a large limestone spring. The property owner told us that there was also a hand-dug, stone lined well and old foundation nearby. He also said that when he stripped some of the soil away from that part of the pasture field, he eyeballed several old colonial buttons in the dirt. Unfortunately, it appears that he hauled away most of the dirt where the old home once stood, so the finds were a little sparse there. But, we soon discovered another old colonial homesite in another field and Mike and I started finding gobs of colonial copper coins and buttons.

Wow, Mike finding that Gremlin disc ( was applied to the center of gas cap) brought back a flood of memories. My first car was a 1972 AMC Gremlin, hideous green gold color. Loved that car, lots of great times with it.

I had a '73 Gremlin X (with Levi's denim interior - classic 70's) - and you beat me to it, it is from the gas cap.
The brake drum looks like a clutch to me.

That brake drum that was pulled up at 2:30 is actually a Clutch plate. It's bolts to a flywheel with a clutch disc in between on a manual transmission vehicle.
Thanks for the ID on it. I wasn't completely sure on my rotor ID.

I’ve used stain made from my own walnuts. Just heated the husks in water to concentrate it. I sprayed polyurethane over it after it was dried. It makes a really dark stain and looks old fashioned to me. Lol! I’ve read you can add oil to make it more resilient.

Its just a hay grass they plant to stop erosion in winter. Then in spring they harvest it to feed the cows. Thanks for watching us.

Naw, you are getting the cool Gremlin cars mixed up with the ugly fish bowl looking AMC Pacers. We used to have a 74 orange Gremlin with a V8 engine and with the hockey stick striping. A neighbor had the ugly Pacer.

That needle and bottle top is exactly why I don't dig out the hole with my hand. I've found those and razor blades before. I get the target out and then find it with the Carrot.

I remember the Gremilin well. My brother had a 73 Gremilin for his first car. I aggregated him a lot over that car. I had a much cooler Cutlass BTW. Grat video as usual. Merry Christmas!

Why are some buttons so big?
They are called "Dandy" buttons and it was high fashion from about 1780--1810ish. Kinda like having an onion tied to the belt that was the fashion when I was young.
