Brought back memories , I used to cycle to Monks bridge to fish in the river Dove , but being a kid , I didn't really know what I was doing , so I would go up by the pillbox and fish in the cut , as we called the canal . I think as you get near Stretton , there is another river , the Fleem , I remember that pipe . I lived next to the A38 at Horninglow , so Horninglow basin was a short cycle ride to go fishing . The other spot was Dallow lock , pronounced Dalla , There was no boat traffic then . My mum and grandparents were evacuated to Shardlow , maybe it was thought the Luftwaffe would bomb the breweries and break morale , ha ha .
Lovely memories used to fish on the canal at monks bridge right near to the pill box. Haven’t been there for over 30 years. Once watched the legendary Tommy Pickering fish at the broken bridge peg at 9:57 in the division one national in the early 90s.
Thanks for the video some interesting drone footage of this beautiful area. The canal looks grand glad you found the wild birds looking forward to going through the tunnel cheers!!😎🦇🦇🇬🇧
Glorious, simply glorious, loved the Pill Box @8.45 adding a bit of history. It's a lovely walk especially in the sunshine, the next time I'm over in Derby for one of my throwing competitions I'm going to get myself down to Willington to do some of that walk, as well as having a look at the old power station cooling towers.
Well Ant that was fabulous. Would so love to spend a few days on a longboat going down a canal. Your drone footage was fantastic. On those bridges were so beautiful. Just love the brickwork. Thanks for another great video and thanks for taking me along. Please stay safe and take care
4:56 - only half of Dovedale is in Derbyshire - the River Dove marks the county boundary with Staffordshire for pretty much its entire length! Although the footpath is on the Derbyshire side, the car park and café by the stepping stones and the facilities in Milldale are on the Staffordshire side of the river. (Not that I'm criticising you - your videos are great!)
5 seconds in and I've banged my head!!!!🤕 Good to get the drone up as a reference point, was that a pill box on the Dove Aqueduct?? Got to get yourself into that working museum - please!!!!! 👍🏻❤
Glad that you have managed to get a lift through Harecastle Tunnel in Stoke. Will you be arranging a lift through the other tunnels on the T&M Canal. These are Barnton, Saltersford and Preston Brook. Also near Barnton is the Anderton Lift between the canal and the River Weaver/Weaver Navigation. The Rive Dove reaches its confluence with the River Trent, at Newton Solney before reaching the Humber.
I watch and enjoy all your videos but don't always comment and this one is great as well, but I'm so looking forward to the Harecastle tunnel episode! Brilliant filming as always, thanks for taking us along with you.
Brilliant walk, aqueduct looked great from the drone footage and a pillar box defending the canal too on the aqueduct. Looking forward to the tunnel episode 👍
Just been watching the Trent & Mersey videos (partly because of all the years i've travelled by in on the A38)....brilliant watch (watching the Harecastle Tunnel video as i type this. Any plans to continue walking the T&M from Burton onwards,or is it on the backburner for now?
@@JonsAdventures I've already done two parts from Stoke on Trent and also harecastle tunnel but not putting them out until the gap completed between Burton and Stoke
