Gread vid. I am a Nottingham lad who now lives in Crich, I am not too good on the pins now, but I have been known to take the electric bike down the towpath, it is truly beautiful, and just like stepping back in time.
I lived in Alfreton for a while and rhis was a fave walk for me on a Saturday afternoon. Id get to Pizza Connection in Matlock and treat myself then walk back to the car. A good walk :)
Another fab video - those colours! Disappointed you missed out the cottage that's being restored (Nightingale Cottage?) but still thoroughly enjoyed this virtual walk whilst sat on my fat bum!🤣
Hi Ant, what a super trek to guide us through another lockdown, no graffiti ,no rubbish and no barges. - I hope there is no link there!. You combined my favourite hobbys in one go, canals, railways and Victorian infrastructure Stay safe Mr Wonderful....
England in Autumn would make Monet lose his mind. Your drone footage is incredible as is your photography and editing. Some day a TV channel is gonna snap you up. When it does don't stop making these wonderful walks and showing us.
Your video was brilliant I live a quarter mile from the Cromford canal in Ambergate , I have walked that towpath many times when I was filter. The Cromford receiving sheds are very interesting and the little black tank engine in your picture i can remember running in the early 60s. My grandad worked at the Middleton quarry and there was a connection to the main line from Middleton, the limestone was brought down to Cromford and the stone transferred to the main line. With my grandad working at the quarry I had the privilege many times to walk the line and be passed by that little engine; which by the way came originally from shunting in the docks at London.
I came back via this route by accident in 2022 after doing the Tissington Trail & High Peak Trails. You wouldn't know it was there and it's so quiet. I got back onto the A6 just before Whatstandwell. I can say it is possible to do all three routes on a racing cycle!
We both loved that Ant...and its weird because patrick leach who i was chatting to you about covered this area in last video even walking thru that tunnel ...both you and patrick have inspired myself and lee to come spend a few days next yr hopefully around this area and do some walks so thanks very much ...keep up the great work and stay safe ...Frank & Lee...
Don't often comment, Ant; as all your videos are so good. However ,the scenery and the way you film back and forth makes this one extra good in our opinion. You always film exactly where we want you to go:). When we visit the UIK in Spring next year we have earmarked this walk. Thanks again for the scenery and the music. (We don't mind at all when your head appears, as you always ensure the views take centre stage:). Thank you so much.
The building at 12:00 looks like stables for the work horses. Some places had rested horses so the boat could keep going and reunite with the original horse on the return trip.
At about 11:15 mins you went for a walk up part of the "Sheep Pasture" incline on the Cromford and High Peak line. Just a little higher up from the Derby Road tunnel is the "catch pit" into which any runaway trucks would be diverted. The incline up and down track beds separate around left and right of the catch pit and any run away trucks were diverted by catch points above the pit controlled by a man holding a lever who listened out for warning Gongs triggered by the wagons going both up and down attached to the rope drive, If the gongs were too fast he would let go of the lever and the points were spring loaded to open and thus crash the truck safely. This was built after an accident where a truck ran away and had enough momentum to leave the tracks at the bend near the workshop area and jump the canal ending up blocking the mainline railway! (Info from the "railway papers" publication on the high peak line.)
Your canal walks are always a pleasure to watch! You'll have to come back when Leawood Pumphouse is in steam - but we need to wait for normality to return first.
Another fantastic walk. You make ax if I’m with you lol 😆 The railway was the main line from Manchester Central. Now an exhibition centre 😩 Nightingale hospital for this horrible virus 🦠 To London St Pancras. There’s talk of reinstating it especially for the Peak forest stone trains 👍🏻
Great video and walk Ant. Only of my favourite and frequent walks I've been doing for 40 years, and spent many a day on Cromford Meadows with me old dad. You might like to know that the Pumphouse is in perfect working order and they have open days a couple of times a year when you can go inside and see it in operation, pumping water from the Derwent into the canal. Remarkable piece of engineering. You can also easily walk from Gregory tunnel up to Crich Tramway museum which maybe of interest to you
Enjoyed the video, thank you. This is a lovely part of the country and the walk is part of the Derwent Valley Heritage Way which I can recommend. It follows the valley from Ladybower, where the Derwent is dammed to 10 miles south of Derby where it joins the Trent at the end of a canal towpath. In normal times it is possible to use public transport to join it up.
Fantastic colours and drone work, the view from above the valley was brilliant. The visit to High Peak Junction was also a nice treat, what a way to finish your canal visits for 2020.
Hi. ??.Q.....not sure what your name is........but I really enjoy your videos, the drone shots are amazing. I did this walk about a month ago, the opposite way round, it was nice, although not as colourful as your good timing. The only downside, was the road traffic noise from the A6 especially at the Ambergate end.....otherwise very pretty route with a lot of history. Just retired after 46 years playing Trains in signal boxes....and getting paid would you believe. Not a bad life.....it was a hobby really.....still have an interest in railways and canals. Keep up the good work....much appreciated.
Wow Ant that was totally super fantastic. Lovely to see the canal I so enjoy that and you also managed a train, you hit it all. Love the stonework on those bridges but that Gregory tunnel was just smashing. The countryside is gorgeous all the Autumn colours. Hope your lockdown doesn’t last long. We have talks that maybe state will be opening their borders. Thanks so much for taking me along, stay safe and p,ease take care
Hi Linda I hope you are okay 🙂 I waited all year to do this one. I did it last November and unknowingly the memory card I used messed up part way around so I didn't get it all. So rather than do it anytime of the year I waited for autumn again for the colours 🙂
Hi. Great video and as you said magical colours. The railway line which featured did it used to be part of the main line which ran from London St Pancras via Leicester and Derby to Manchester Central?
Really enjoyed this one, buddy. I've got a fairly new channel and have done a few canal vids in Derbyshire. I'm really looking forward to doing the Cromford canal as it looks stunning.
Great vid as always Ant, on the list for when we are once again allowed, though any walk at Cromford surely has to start at “that” railway house made famous by Oasis?
What a shame you didnt mention anything about high peak junction in terms of what the junction was the terminus for, where the railway went to, what is was called, why if was built, etc etc.
Do you chance across old WW2 pillboxes on your canal travels? I've become a bit fixated on them - would be cool to know more places to find them. I am down Kennet & Avon way. Plenty there. Thanks in anticipation
That one was nice! Brings back many memories of walks along here, and catching the (steam train) back to Sheffield from the once magnificent Ambergate station. I did a little photostream video of this a few years back which can be founf at ruclips.net/video/YtKZ5r5KVUQ/видео.html
Hey Ant, awesome video. I really enjoyed how captured the journey and especially seeing all the remaing structures. I have a quick question, what video that you made did you find the scariest to make?
Gread vid. I am a Nottingham lad who now lives in Crich, I am not too good on the pins now, but I have been known to take the electric bike down the towpath, it is truly beautiful, and just like stepping back in time.

Great vid , you should do a part two and follow Cromford canal all the way to the Langley Mill basin . 👍
Interesting section of canal, looks disused. Thanks for taking us along 👍🏴
Another fab video - those colours! Disappointed you missed out the cottage that's being restored (Nightingale Cottage?) but still thoroughly enjoyed this virtual walk whilst sat on my fat bum!🤣

Looks beautiful country side lovely video
Fabulous. Great colours and scenery. Loved your music. Love your vlogs . Roll on next one .thank you.
Evening Shirley I hope you are well. Thank you so much for your kind comment and I'm glad you are enjoying them 😊

Thank you so much for your kind words.
Really appreciate it. Thank you for watching and glad you enjoyed it 😀

A bit late in the day but a lovely walk and the music at the beginning was excellent.
Absolutely love the
Comford canal been up and down many times and regularly walk the part with the entrance to the butterley tunnel

Terrific. Thanks. A perfect reminder of a walk my wife and I did when we were younger and still able.
Thanks for taking us on a magical walk along the canal. All the best and keep well.
Thanks for the video and chat. Cheers Ant!
That was a great walk Ant, one to add to my to do list. Be nice if the Canal could be in use again .

nice to see lot of the infrastructure still in place along the canal and the railway too, great video.

Super!!! Going out on a 2020 towpath walk high, great colours, loads to see and a lot more character than the "used" canals. Nicely done Ant 👍🏻👍🏻
Another great video. I was about to ask you about the canal looking over grown but found the answer in the comments.
Just come back from there myself! It is a great walk.
The scenery and the autumn colours were spectacular, also great drone shots
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it 😀
Really enjoyed your video 👍 😊
Great video, Ant. Must get up and do that one ourselves.
Worth the wait ant a lovely and interesting walk, nice one.
Really good again, hope you do get chance to get back out in 2020

The colours were just beautiful just love Autumn. I’m good thanks
Another great video. Good to see old photos of what it was originally like. What was music at the beginning? Thanks
Hi. Great video and as you said magical colours.
The railway line which featured did it used to be part of the main line which ran from London St Pancras via Leicester and Derby to Manchester Central?
Yes.
Great video i did the same walk in June and looked completely different. Part two to Langley Mill basin next please 👍
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching... all being well i can squeeze it in this December on a frosty morning :)
Also the stream in the culvert powered Cromford Mill and its water wheels and flows into cromford following the via gellia road
Crackin' video. Thank you.
I just adore the music. So catchy and addictive. Is it available as a tape or record etc please?
Nice walk. The canal seems to be unused by boats.
Good video as always

Great video as usual
Thank you. Two years ago I think this is now
Ant 12.09 I would say they are stables for the work horses, Excellent Video thanks for sharing.
May I ask what make is that "tunnel "torch you use?
Great Video Great Colours is the canal navigable didnt see any boats ?
What a shame you didnt mention anything about high peak junction in terms of what the junction was the terminus for, where the railway went to, what is was called, why if was built, etc etc.
It was primarily a canal walk along the Cromford so that's mostly why
Do you chance across old WW2 pillboxes on your canal travels? I've become a bit fixated on them - would be cool to know more places to find them. I am down Kennet & Avon way. Plenty there.
Thanks in anticipation
I did recently on the Trent and Mersey Canal near Burton upon Trent where it crosses the river Dove.
@@TrekkingExploration great. Any chance you have a YT of it?

dreadful music.. like watching one of those terrible crafty panda fb videos lol
I absolutely agree
